Relatives say the us apology, isnt enough. This was americas last act of war before he pulled out of afghanistan and decision to the midsole smacks of panic. What a legacy. And after a Record Rise in wholesale Gas Prices the Uk Government holds urgent talks with Energy Suppliers. After the french president ordered the recall of ambassadors To Australia and the us, washington says it plans to hold talks with senior french officials in the coming days to calm the diplomatic storm. The french ambassador To Australia has now left the country, describing as a huge mistake its decision to unilaterally cancel a Submarine Contract worth tens of billions of dollars. From paris, heres hugh schofield. For hugh schofield. The americans the australians for the americans the australians and the new alliance to ensure stability and fought the strategic images of china. It isjos decision to buy nuclear submarines from the us have left the french feeling stunned and humiliated. Their contract with australia has been simply bend. As they assess the damage. Steel. As they assess the damage, the steel. As they assess the damage, the french steel. As they assess the l damage, the french asking themselves tough questions. Who now can be relied on as a serious Military Ally . Noticeably, here at the french foreign ministry, The One ambassador who has not been recalled as The One to london. One reason being put about is that the french regard the british role in the new pact as being that of a junior partner, but it does also suggest a willingness to keep lines of communication open. The souring of relations is in stark contrast to when President Macron visited an australian submarine in 2018. With an election coming early next year, he has perhaps to act tough, but his angry reaction has broad support. For most people it is not the government that has been humiliated france. Humiliated but france. Let us bring you some Life Pictures from Cape Canaveral in florida. You can see the first all civilian spaceflight coming towards splashdown in the atlantic. It is a breakthrough in the market for Space Tourism and one of several this year. Earlier this year we saw Sir Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos going beyond the earths atmosphere, this is perhaps more extraordinary, seeing the worlds first fully civilian Space Crew orbiting the earth at such a high altitude and then completing this mission successfully. Great to have been able to share that with you as we saw them return to earth. Let us move on to some of our other developing stories. United nations agencies have urged the taliban to reopen girls schools in afghanistan. More than a month after the taliban seized power, secondary schools for boys have reopened and all male teachers have been ordered back to work. But the taliban have said nothing about reopening secondary schools for girls, despite the fact that female enrolment has been steadily going up over the past two decades. Weve been talking to 21 year old afghan student shuhra koofi, whose mother, a former mp, survived two assassination attempts. Both women have been moved out by the us and are currently in doha, from where shuhra described the current lack of Female Education as heartbreaking and frustrating. Afghanistan is not the country it was 20 years back, but unfortunately it now going through the 1990s. So when my mother was at school, she faced a lot of opposition from her family because they did not allow her to go to school, and even some families at that time didnt allow their boys to go to school. But compared to when i was going to school, my mum tried to find the best schools to send me and my sisters. So you see a big generational change here in kabul, Back Home, there was a High School For Girls in front of our house. Every day i saw girls at 1pm that they were going to school and at 5pm they were coming out. But when the taliban came, that door was closed and that school was empty. It was really heartbreaking and frustrating. Like, before this, when they were fighting against the government, they had a reason to legitimise their brutality and legitimise the fact that they dont allow the girls to go to school. But now they are ruling the government, so they are accountable to people and this is not what people want. Families want their daughters to get educated. They want their girls to go to school and have the rights that the boys have. Sam mort speaks for the United Nations Childrens Fund from kabul. She says the gains of the last two decades need to be preserved. Well, we welcomed the Statement Yesterday that boys could return to secondary school. That is good news, but of course we are deeply concerned that girls were omitted from that girls were omitted from that message. But that doesnt mean to say that girls will not go back to school. They have not said that girls are banned from school, and unicef is very clear that girls must not be left out of secondary schooling. 20 years ago there were 1 schooling. 20 years ago there were1 million children in school. 10 of them were girls. Today weve got nearly 10 Million children in school and 40 of them are girls, and it was absolutely vital that we preserve those gains, especially now, when we have lost so many talented young people in the last few weeks through evacuation. It is critical, if there is going to be a peaceful, productive and prosperous afghanistan, that all its young people are skilled and productive. Relatives of the family of ten afghan civilians killed in an american Drone Strike in afghanistan last month say the attack amounted to a war crime. Us officials have admitted the air strike, which killed seven children in kabul, was a mistake. From the afghan capital, here isjeremy bowen. This is all that remains of the Toyota Corolla that the americans tracked for hours as they convince themselves, entirely incorrectly, that it was packed with explosives. Five of the seven dead children were playing in the car when it was hit. Its owner, who they believed wrongly was an islamic state bomber, had just driven it home from his work with an american made organisation. The survivors have moved out after their terrible loss. They want Compensation And Resettlement in a safe country. This was americas last act of war before it pulled out of afghanistan, and the decision to fire the missile smacks of panic and what a legacy. It isnt necessarily the Parting Shot of the americans, because they still have the capacity to hit targets from the air. The us relies increasingly on drones. Americas latest deadly blunder shows how dangerous its drone strategy can be for civilians. Now to the us, where the department of Homeland Security has moved around 2,000 people from a camp in a Border Town in texas to other immigration Detention And Processing centres. In the past two days, Up To 12,000 mainly haitian migrants have arrived at the Border Town, many after travelling from south america in an effort to request asylum in the us. Here is a little of what the mayor of the texan Border Town of Del Rio said a short while ago. This is unprecedented. This is beyond surreal. This is affecting everybody in this community. Our correspondent will grant explains what the united States Plan is for these migrants. I think its a pretty basic plan. It will be first and foremost remove them from under a bridge, where they have set p a bridge, where they have set up a sort of makeshift centre, a makeshift camp, and send them to processing centres, detention centres, along the border. We hear that at least 2000 have already been moved in that way. But ultimately the mlb to get them on plans and back to haiti. I think we know that the Driving Force when it comes to the biden administration, with its relationship with mexico, for example, is immigration. These images, these numbers, do not look good for the biden administration. They are tired of the situation and they will continue to sort of act whenever these sorts of moments of influx or many crises happen. So i dont think it comes as any great surprise that the department for Homeland Security is acting pretty swiftly when there is this sort of momentary gathering and this bridge in the town of Del Rio. find Gathering and this bridge in the town of Del Rio. And whats been the driving the town of Del Rio. And whats been the Driving Force the town of Del Rio. And whats been the Driving Force behind i been the Driving Force behind so many haitians arriving in texas, pretty much at once . Well, i think we can split them into two separate groups, in a sense. Theres haitians who we believe have been outside of haiti, really, since around 2010 earthquake, the devastating earthquake that caused so much destruction in country then. But also there are more recent arrivals. And the route, often, is to go to South American countries. People can get from haiti to brazil relatively easily, which is an extra ordinary thought, to think that they have come all the way up from south america, through central america, through central america, and have made it to this Border Town. But we do believe that in a number of cases that is what has happened. A lot of cuban migrants are there as well. Of course, the current economic crisis in cuba is pushing a lot of people out of the island. And for the haitians being deported, being flown back, they are going into some pretty difficult conditions. Difficult conditions. Yes, they really are difficult conditions. Yes, they really are i difficult conditions. Yes, they really are. I mean, difficult conditions. Yes, they really are. I mean, there difficult conditions. Yes, they really are. I mean, there is i difficult conditions. Yes, they really are. I mean, there is a| really are. I mean, there is a political vacuum in haiti at the moment after the assassination of the president. There is a crisis more generally in the country. There has been protests over corruption. There is Gang Violence that is fuelling the political crisis, and of course there was another earthquake earlier this year. So it has been an extremely difficult journey for them to get to that point, and it must be devastating to face the idea that they are going to be on plans back to port Au Prince very shortly. I think what we will therefore see is that a lot of the people still in the group, still in Del Rio, cross back into mexico and the seek a silent or try to cross the border elsewhere, perhaps at another porous point. Amid rising global Gas Prices and warnings of higher Gas Bills for consumers, Uk Ministers have been holding urgent talks with Energy Industry leaders. It is understood that four small energy companies are likely to go under next week. The Uk Business secretary, kwasi kwarteng, says protecting customers is an absolute priority for the government. Here is our Business Correspondent Katy austin. Gas is a key source of the energy that heats our homes and powers our industries. Since the start of the year, wholesale prices have soared, almost doubling in the uk, prompting the government to hold urgent talks with the Energy Industry today. Reasons for the increase include lower wind and solar generation, high demand and reduce supply from russia. The unprecedented costs are already taking their toll. Four smaller Energy Suppliers have recently gone bust, with more expected to follow as soon as next week. The more expected to follow as soon as next week as next week. The conversations riaht now as next week. The conversations right now with as next week. The conversations right now with government as next week. The conversations right now with government are l right now with government are about whether we may or may not need official support for customers and users. The industrial sector is obviously a really high priority. Steelmakers, which need a lot of energy, i worried. It steelmakers, which need a lot of energy, i worried. Of energy, i worried. If they are at this of energy, i worried. If they are at this price of energy, i worried. If they are at this price now, of energy, i worried. If they are at this price now, whatl of energy, i worried. If they. Are at this price now, what is it going to be like in the winter . And if it carried on like this, then i am really fearfulfor notjust like this, then i am really fearful for not just the like this, then i am really fearful for notjust the Steel Sector but all energy intensive sectors, and then downstream operations, because that is what we do. We are at the start of the Supply Chain. We sell to manufacturers. Manufacturers. Highenergy rices manufacturers. Highenergy prices have manufacturers. Highenergy prices have already manufacturers. Highenergy prices have already forced i manufacturers. Highenergy i prices have already forced two large Uk Fertiliser plant in north of england to close stop one consequence is a shortage of their crucial byproducts, Carbon Dioxide, and that could hit Food Drink businesses. Because it is used to stand some animals before slaughtering and for meatpacking, meat processes via shortage could into production. It is used to extend the short Life Shelf Life in the Packaging Notjust of meat but all foods. And at a time when were struggling to keep the Supply Chain running, to actually lose Shelf Life and have a shorter Shelf Life of the products going into shelves is going to cause even more disruption. So this is a Serious Problem for us. The owner of Serious Problem for us. The owner of one Serious Problem for us. The owner of one large Serious Problem for us. The owner of one large paltry group, which includes bernard matthews, called the Carbon Dioxide problem a massive body blow, and the online Food Delivery Company acado says it now has limited stock of some frozen foods because it cant get enough dry ice. The Trade Body representing major supermarkets said the Disruption Couldnt have come at a worse time, with a Lorry Driver Shortage already causing issues. The rising price of gas issues. The rising price of gas is mainly being felt by businesses at the moment, but it is likely to feed through into higher bills for consumers, at a time when the Cost Of Living is already rising. The business secretary, kwasi kwarteng, says written can meet demand for gas and the government doesnt expect Supply Emergencies this winter britain. But some things are beyond their control. With wholesale prices, there are global factors at play. There has been a heavy Police Presence on Capitol Hill In Washington For A Rally by hard right supporters of rioters who attacked the us Senate And House of representatives on 6 january, but the organisers have acknowledged that the numbers are not as high as at previous protests. Our Correspondent Nomia Iqbal spoke to us from washington and told us about the turnout. This was the first large Scale Security Test for officials here in dc since sixth of january, and of course they dont want a repeat of what happened that day, so security was massively beefed up. There was massively beefed up. There was the militarised perimeter, the fence that went all the way Around Dc. You had national guard troops on standby as well, and the Capitol Police out fully armed and lots of roads blocked off so trying to get Around Dc took a little bit longer than usual. But in terms of the turnout, this particular group that held this rally, they had a permit of around 700 people. The Capitol Police say in terms of how many actually turned up, it was about 450. And that definitely is how it felt. There were certainly more police there than there were actual protesters, and of course there was lots of media there as well. But the police were worried, because it is not just about sixth of january, of course. There have been a few incidences since january the sixth that have alarmed police. Just last month the men from North Carolina showed up strapped with explosives threatening to blow up a neighbourhood, and on april the second there was a Knife And Car attack that killed one police officer. Also they werent sure if other groups could turn Up Today, so far right extremist groups who had given given them any assurances, and then you have to counter protest groups. They were kept far away, but still, the police did not want to leave anything to chance. We will go back to the Spacex Capsule that has landed in the last 20 minutes or so. To remind you of what you have been seeing, this is about the first all civilian spaceflight with no professional astronauts on board. Four private flyers have been orbiting the earth for three days at an altitude of more than 570 kilometres. Lets just look again at the splashdown pictures from earlier. When we all held our breath. A lovely moment and as it happens, you will remember we could hear the cheers and the applause from control. Some inspiring stories among those who were on that very private flat. All the places were paid for by the billionaire jared isaacman, who was part of the flight, and they have completed their historic mission. Thank you for being with us on Bbc News. Hello there. Many of you will have had a dry start of the weekend. There is some sunshine around, the best of it argue across eastern areas of the country, and a lovely into the day, captured by whether watcher sue in wakefield in west yorkshire. We have seen outbreaks of rain starting to form, some heavy showers crossing the midlands, some of those downpours have been captured by a Weather Watchers as well, for Example Look at this one. A Downpour Crossing the skies of Nuneaton In captured by whether watcher jack. Right now if anything the rain is getting a bit heavier, but more expensive as this way across wales, the midlands, northern scotland, slowly we are starting to see that rain is off across westernmost areas of Northern Ireland. So here it should be a reasonably dry start of the day on sunday, but otherwise many of us will see at least some rain during the day on sunday. As these areas of rain continued to push their way eastwards. Now, the rain is going to get increasingly heavy late in the day across eastern areas of england, where the rain is going to really grind to a halt. And the amount of rain was see from place to place is going to vary quite a bit but there will be a few areas that could pick up as much as 30 or 40 millimetres. There is a risk of seeing some localised Surface Water Flooding across the east. Many western areas, actually, the weather will improve the Sunday Afternoon with a bit more on the web sunshine. Taking a look at the week ahead, well, its not a bad start to the week, with some sunny spells, some dry weather as well for many. However, later in the week, low pressure is going to be moving in and that is going to be bringing more of an autumnal field to things, really, as it turns wet and increasingly windy as well. Monday start and into tuesday shows this ridge of high Pressure Building of the next atlantic system. And not completely dry. I mean, there will be one or two spots of Rain In East Anglia and south east england, a few showers in the north west, but predominantly monday is a dry day with some sunshine. Our temperatures are high teens to low 20s, probably feeling just a little bit fresher than it has done over recent days, but not cold. On into tuesdays forecast, if few Mist And Fog patches to start the day. The winds really start to pick up for Northern Ireland in western scotland, where there could be a few showers, but again it is mainly dry day, with some sunny spells. Perhaps a bit of cloud developing across england and wales through the afternoon. Top template is about 21 celsius. But heading deeper into the weak, low pressure is set to move in off the atlantic. This bringing rain to all areas and increasingly strong winds. We will have some autumnal gales later in the week. This is Bbc News the headlines.
