STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Supporters of President Donald Trump violently gained access to the U.S. Capitol building, physically pushing past police in an effort to disrupt Congressional certification of the 2020 presidential election on Wednesday.
Thousands of people gathered in Washington D.C. in an effort to challenge the certification of the election that the president has repeatedly said was fraudulent, but without evidence of widespread fraud.
A tweet from a Huffington Post reporter inside the Capitol showed photos of a group who had breached the building carrying a confederate battle flag, and wearing “Make America Great Again” hats.
