On Wednesday, Michael Perez, Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, presented La Junta Associated Charities with a check of $2,500.
The funds were provided through the Elks' Gratitude Grant, Perez told the La Junta Tribune-Democrat.
"We get approved for the grant to give out to a local charity for a nonprofit organization to help with anything that they really need," said Perez. "One year, we donated $1,500 to Ark Valley Hospice. We bought them all wheelchairs."
Another year, Perez said, the Elks Lodge purchased $1,750 worth of groceries from Safeway. Due to uncertainty tied to the pandemic, Perez said a direct check was better this year so the money could be used on whatever Associated Charities might need.
