The law requires mandatory de-escalation training, punishes police officers who turn off their body cameras with an intent to conceal, and bars police officers from using chokeholds unless they are in a life or death situation.

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Governor Eric Holcomb has signed a bill into law that will create more accountability for police officers. The law requires mandatory de-escalation training as part of pre-basic training, in-service training, and executive training for all law enforcement officers.
“The last thing any officer wants to do is get in engaged in a physical altercation,” said Lafayette Police Chief Patrick Flannelly. “When that happens the risk of injury goes up not just for the officer but for innocent bystanders and for suspects themselves."
