New route for popular trail gets final approval

Construction is expected to begin this year to reroute a section of the Superior Hiking Trail north of Gooseberry Falls State Park.
The 1.6-mile section of trail from the park's falls area to Blueberry Hill Road was permanentely closed several years ago after a private landowner revoked access for the trail. Since then, the trail has temporarily been routed along the paved Gitchi-Gami State Trail and then up Blueberry Hill Road.
