Internationally renowned pianist Liam Pitcher moved to Hermanus to aid in expanding the town’s musical scene.
One of South Africa’s top improvisation pianists, instantly composing in the classical
oeuvre, as opposed to jazz and pop, his sheer volume of output is unmatched, having released 10 albums of original improvs with Cape Town Sound alone, one of South Africa’s oldest and most respected record labels.
Pitcher will perform and teach in Hermanus for an indeterminate period. Having studied with SA’s greatest, such as Roucher Du Toit, Hendrik Hofmeyr, Jose Dias, Peter Klatzow, Martin Watt, Francois du Toit, Albie van Schalkwyk and others, he is a powerhouse of musical knowledge.
