The Junagadh district administration takes a firm stance against suppliers and manufacturers of products wrapped in single-use plastic in the Gir eco-sensitive zone (ESZ). Recent actions include convening meetings with suppliers to stop supplies to retailers inside ESZ and imposing penalties for non-compliance. Strict enforcement of the plastic ban in ESZ began after intervention by the Gujarat high court. Measures such as providing clay water jugs to water vendors and prohibiting plastic water bottles for pilgrims have been implemented to reduce plastic pollution in the area.
