Proposed Worcester budget reveals new 25-cent increase to city’s yellow trash bags

Within the proposed fiscal 2022 budget submitted by Worcester City Manager Edward, an item exists that will hit the wallets of the majority of city residents.
Augustus is recommending an increase to the cost of the city’s trash bags. The recommended jump would be $0.25 per trash bag. The increase would be implemented at the start of 2022.
The proposed increase would provide about $350,000 of revenue for the city, according to the city manager.
The city’s trash bag fees have increased twice since the program began in 1993. The cost of the bags have not been increased in 14 years, the city said.
