ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Current Rochester City Councilman Malik Evans is running for Mayor of the City of Rochester.
The Democrat is running on a platform of "Building Bridges" in the 2021 mayoral race.
Evans formerly served as Rochester Board of Education President from 2008 through 2013, after being elected to the board in 2003 as the youngest member to ever serve on the Board of Education.
A statement on his website reads:

Dear Rochester Community,
I am running for Mayor because I believe we must bridge the divides in our community. This will begin when we can ensure that trust and transparency are guiding principles at City Hall. My administration will be transparent and accountable to every single sector of our community. We will build trust by building bridges, and we will demonstrate respect for Rochester’s citizens by recognizing and expecting that they will hold us accountable. Without the core principles of trust, transparency and accountability being upheld by every department in City Hall, nothing else matters—any campaign or policy promises will ring hollow. I will lead by example, placing these ideals at the forefront of every decision and every action that originates in the Mayor’s office. I will never forget that I represent all the citizens of Rochester—this will be a central tenet to my administration’s Compact with the Community.
