To the stage of the investigation where they're gathering information and that's what. Really the jury is going to do over the next few weeks or try to get testimony in the form of perhaps documents they can issue these subpoenas that a lot of people are talking about perhaps to to banks or to telephone companies to get records to scrutinize meticulously times and dates and cross-reference people's accounts to see what's going on so suggestions that there's already issued one of these subpoenas to be able to have the power to pull information in a date or in how long do we think that this grand jury has been operating as we've only heard about it today well we don't know is the honest answer to that but we can presume that probably for a few weeks things do seem to be moving quite quickly because I didn't that long since there Robert Miller took over the investigation the investigation that's of course been described as a witch hunt by Donald Trump out but to be at the stage of issuing subpoenas already that would suggest that they are moving quite quickly that doesn't mean to say it's going to conclude quickly this could be weeks or even months before any recommendations a made in terms of possible indictments President Trump was was quick to bring out that the like all of the witch hunt has been dressing a rally today as the been any mention of this from him that he hasn't directly mentioned the latest developments in terms of this grand jury but he certainly did tackle the the Russian story as he described it and saying that in his view it's a total fabrication we've heard pretty much all of this before from Donald Trump he says the Russian story is just an excuse for the greatest loss in the history of American politics it just makes them presumably talking about the Democrats feel better when they have nothing else to talk about he went on what the prosecutor should be looking at is Hillary Clinton's $33000.00. And I think most people thought that he had retired but he was he was brought back into this role and clearly it's significant because he is respected on all sides both sides of the political aisle in the United States he has widespread support perhaps not the support of Donald Trump but clearly senators and congressmen and women believe that he is someone with a strong character and that perhaps he is the right person to be in charge of an investigation like this and yes absolutely definitely over the coming weeks and months we will hear a lot more about him because he is in charge of this investigation he is the person that some people have suggested that Donald Trump may want to try to remove that won't be an easy process but it has been suggested the White House has dismissed that in fact the White House just within the last few hours Nick issuing a statement about this latest matter saying that the grand jury is normally kept secret and that's true grand juries generally operate behind closed doors and we don't really find out much about what they're doing until they've done it until they've issued a decision or a recommendation of the White House statement went on to say that it was fully committed to operating with Mr Miller the White House according to his tie called the White House special counsel the White House favors anything that accelerate. The conclusion of his work fairly by by doing that by giving that statement it means in some ways that it would be very difficult to remove Robert Muller from this. Is that the feeling the know way too that he would be sacked by President Roh Well there will be a heck of a stink if that happened there will be political outcry as on all sides of the aisle if the president did attempt and indeed succeed in doing that so the other one line that I should mention from the president's rally a few minutes ago and perhaps very telling he said I just hope the final determination is a truly on a still on the final determination of the Russia investigation and I think in saying that that he hopes it will be a truly honest one perhaps some people might suggest he's sowing seeds there to suggest that this is perhaps through his view through his eyes a dishonest investigation and that if it goes away that criticizes the president or indeed result in some sort of criminal investigation or or prosecution there is a criminal investigation if it results in a prosecution Donald Trump may well say well the whole thing has been dishonest American law doesn't tend to go very quickly. In the United States Marcus Chin's who's 23 years old and comes from Devon is accused of creating software to steal bank details the B.B.C.'s David Lee is in San Francisco and he told me what he knows so far we understand he was arrested at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas and he had been attending a conference that I myself was at last week of Defcon which is the biggest underground hacking conference of its kind in the world notorious for attracting all sorts of hackers that don't necessarily know where they are in his case he was well known because he has been instrumental in defeating the want to cry attack which you may remember from from May this year that crippled much of the n.h.s. Is a systems he was a hero for doing that he did that works. Accidentally but what the authorities have headed for here isn't related to that it's instead related to something called Kronos which is a separate attack which 1st originated in 2014 it was a trojan specially means it's hides in the machine and collects information and the information it was collecting we understand banking details so usernames and passwords to log in to a bank accounts online and a few other details as well that's what he's been accused of creating and distributing. And that's why the F.B.I.'s intercepted him as he was trying to travel home from my conference I think these are serious charges on the you know this is in American a very serious offense that he's accused of. Absolutely incredibly serious and we've seen some very harsh sentences handed down to people that have been convicted of doing this kind of activity now one of the interesting things is it's very difficult to prove who is behind these kind of attacks and so I think that's important to remember because many of the security community who knew knew them and say this is incredibly surprising to them they don't you know him as someone who works tirelessly to prevent these kind of attacks as far as they're aware and if I want security expert Michael Kevin Beaumont when it's hard to say that it looks like the f.b.i. Has made a bad mistake but of course this is all going to play out your thinking in the courts and yet as I speak to you now yet to hear the plea from Marcus Hutchinson we don't know how he's going to respond to these charges but yes the u.s. Takes a very very dim view of these kind of. These kinds of crimes so you say that you you were at this conference that he was out and he said he was the he was seen as a hero over one a crime was not the same at the conference was was he being lauded then well he was one of several higher profile hackers I guess you could say the conference I mean it's an event known for stunts it's an event known for outlandish hacks of products that we all use every day. I didn't I didn't see him myself at the event I understand he was there and he was talking to people and the thing that was quite remarkable his story is that he stopped the want to cry attack by accident he sets up an Internet domain name so I could name what you would say that's their Web site . With the intention of tracking the spread of want to cry and seeing how far around the world it was affecting people in the process of doing that he managed to actually prevent the attack from spreading out so well and so that he came out of nowhere and people praised him for that the knock on effect of that is he felt very very. Very uncomfortable with this. Publicist say he was guessing he was a counselor at the amount of attention he was getting from journalists in particular I should say from the b.b.c. Meticulous Well he just felt incredibly under the spotlight in a way that he hadn't felt like you've ever been before but we had no idea and none of the security or Germans had any idea this was going to be what eventually happened that he was arrested at the airport for something unrelated to what he did we want to cry but as you mentioned an incredibly serious crime Dave Lee in some Francisco the 26 minutes after one a woman who urged her boyfriend to kill himself by sending him text messages has been sentenced to 2 and a half years in prison Michele Carter was found guilty in June of the involuntary manslaughter of Conrad really the 3rd who was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in July 24th seen on the day of the tragedy Carter who was then 17 years old sent dozens of text messages to her boyfriend telling him to take his own life John Ransom has been in court for the Boston Globe and joins us now what all the details of this case sure are so the 2 teenagers they were boyfriend and girlfriend they met in 2012 through family in Florida and the relationship was mostly you know over text messages online via Facebook they have been a lot of time talking about you know teenage stuff friends in sports and their favorite bands but there was also obviously a dark side to some of those text messages that included talks of suicide both of the teenagers struggled with it was time of thoughts and other issues I mean. Are you able to go into any of the details about what these text messages you said that they would dog or what type of thing with a saying yes. Or so Conrad you know he told Michelle that he commits to try to commit suicide in 2012 when you know he had been researching ways to kill himself for quite some time and throughout the course of that period you know Michel in the beginning was try to talk him out of it and she opened up to him about her struggle with suicide and with cutting herself and with an eating disorder. And but eventually she began to go along with what Conrad was saying and began to encourage him to do what he ultimately wanted to do which was to kill himself and he said you know pictures and text messages of different methods of suicide and it's something that was all right there in a text messages she was found guilty of a charge of involuntary manslaughter. Yes I mean and the that's why that and why that charge and why why was he found guilty of that what was the reasoning behind the decision. So the judge found that you know Michelle was right there on the phone when you know he was taking his life and he said also he did not call police she did not contact his family and she did not try to persuade him to do something differently and so the judge said that she could have prevented him from killing himself if she just did not been sentenced to 2 and a hall years in prison what was the prosecution hoping for. The prosecution they requested 7 to to give me 7 to 12 years in jail but ultimately the judge decided against that it went a little bit lower but the prosecutors feel like you know she was very aware what she was doing that she was seeking attention through Conrad's suicide and you know because she had never had any intention of her own and so this was her way of getting. It's a very interesting time for songwriters at the moment is there been so many high profile court cases the likes of Moses winds up time funk some Smith The British singer where songwriters have been sued for songs sounding like other songs as one of the greatest songwriters ever one of you made if this development I don't like it I mean it's a very delicate matter you know you know there's just so many notes and when is the definitive decision made if the story is derivative it seems and dad decisions. I've had people assume me you know somebody who I never knew said you know I wrote game traps and. Then you have to protect yourself lawyer wise and prove that. Not the other person is perfect sense what needs to be done then just think there should be like maybe 3 or 4 outstanding expert musicologist who can be trusted who can differentiate and say that's derivative that's not a good you know there are just so many notes when you look at the keyboard. That's one octave right there and that's what you've got to play it right so some songs like others things are messy in the. World of pop music and records and download free music and things like that. And then on top of that to have this kind of crust suing and you know I don't like it. Well that's a good question how our music there it doesn't seem to be a lot of consistency and you know and I think Burt Bacharach is absolutely right that it seems like a like something's broken when you get some of these jury verdicts on some of these cases like the blurred lines case you know the creative community can get sort of spooked by it and you know who's going to write the next Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head when they're afraid a lawsuit might fall on their head so it is it is a concern I think that. He's right what we do about it is another matter but to answer your question yeah it's a it's all over the map it's not clear you have blurred lines case and then later you have the Led Zeppelin case that you played the music from that went the other way so there is no consistency it's a bit of the wild wild west if you will of the problem the problem is that you have a jury system and you bring in a jury and they're the ones that decide what do you see the problem with us is. Well it is a problem with a jury that may not understand much about music. But then you have the same problem with judges sometimes judges will will decide cases there's a case involving Dr Luke for example and it's a basic drum beat that any drummer would know you know it's a backbeat that's a funky backbeat it's in a lot of songs n.w.a. Too you name it and he got sued for using the speed and I would say that's that's a standard thing that any drummer knows and it shouldn't be a basis for a lawsuit but this judge ruled that way so it's not ruled in favor of the plaintiffs against Dr Luke and. The the artist so you can't so it was a jury any better than a than a judge it's hard to say I think that juries that judges tend to be. To more learned perhaps but it's very hard to say the other thing is that sometimes juries just decide based on who they like you don't have that jury system in the u.k. But we do and oftentimes you will feel that you know if the jury felt that. For all Williams and Robin Thicke were not telling the truth and they don't like them they're going to rule against them no matter what the music is like so you get a sense of that so in some ways not to last for a while what can you do that's not not though do you have to take it to the to the judge themselves to be it because then surely you get judges who will favor those type of cases because honestly about music. You know. The you can go to a judge if you have if you're in front of a jury and you're a defendant you can do what's called a summary judgment where you can say well there's really no case here and they tried to do that on the blurred lines case it didn't work but other cases it has work where you simply try to make the case to a judge that it should never go to a jury because it's just so clear that there is no infringement here I mean like from the floor of the Led Zeppelin case you have on a minor chord in the descending bass line I mean you played it yes it sounds similar the Spirit song sounds similar but so did some of Bach Ok so you can go way way back and who owns that you know Burt Bacharach said you know you someone gets a song writer gets a thought in their head and they should write it down well where does that come from who owns it you know who owns the a minor 7 with the sending line that's the question what's protectable and what isn't all plagiarism cases will come in now does it does it tend to be that once there's been a successful case of the writers trying to protect their interests. You know I think we're in sort of the golden age right now in the United States anyway of copyright infringement cases they're just coming fast and furious since the blurred lines case even more we've turned a bunch of them away but if you go back to the seventy's say you know or the eighty's you had a lot of songs that sounded like other songs you know but you didn't see Bob Dylan suing Stealers Wheel over stuck in the middle with you although it might be very similar you didn't see Bruce Springsteen getting sued because blinded by the light had a Van Morrison type of feel to it you're seeing a lot more of that now back in the earlier days decades ago much less much more sort of sharing kind of a community but here today we see a lot of litigation what what is the solution do we just have to throw copyright out of the the window completely or do we do we just accept it and accept the frankly you're going to get a lot of money from these cases what do we do well I you know I do think that. It's that Burt Bacharach is on to something we don't have a system that would allow for musicologists safer to be a panel that would rule in a binding way but you can have mediation you could have a panel of mediators like he was describing and hopefully that could convince somebody with a frivolous lawsuit not to go forward with it but you know we have a system that it doesn't work sometimes and sometimes it does work frankly I thought in the Led Zeppelin case that it worked. A jury made the right decision there are other case interesting cases where it works and some where it doesn't but you know it's like it's it's a terrible system except it's it's the only one we have and it might be better than the alternatives. Ok so. I'm just wondering how how very old it is so you're guessing it's a Windows machine I'm guessing it's probably running Windows x.p. So if that is the case the 1st thing would be still say don't put that machine on line because you know Microsoft have been upgrading it for some time and therefore it may have a number of vulnerabilities that could mean that the machine and its contents could be could be hacked However if we were looking to do is is there with offline assuming it's a machine that's got some form of u.s.b. Interface on it the most ubiquitous little trying to get a rectangular connector on the device then it can be as simple as buying a a cheap external device if if speed is not you know of the essence I wouldn't bother going for a saw the state drive I'd just go for a conventional hard drive. And one with enough capacity and the thing is not really worth going for much less than $500.00 gigabytes to one terabyte these days because the drives don't actually get much cheaper below that so I'd look for a u.s.b. Drive. Preferably one that's called an external power supply not one that host powers as they call it where it's powered from the us because we don't know how silly that u.s.b. Is and then I would just literally see if there were already on the machine I would see to you know that she just copy them off you know just highlight them all select them all and copy them over if you haven't got any bespoke backup software and it's just just these sorts of files that you want to copy then just drag them across and do that you know beyond that you could look at. You know put it putting various other piece of software on there but if it is that she just case of making sure they're safe and perhaps putting the moment of machine what I would say is if you are using you know at some point those those photos will go to another machine and you know you. Your machine will become conveyed to heaven then you're going to have to run you know a fall and a virus scan on the contents of that drive because we don't know what the status of your old computer is so basically copy them across get an external u.s.b. Hard drive connect them and it will just appear as an external drive and even though an old computer should allow you to do that without too many problems hope that's Ok for you Nigel. Next one is almost slightly linked. Talking about old software you know I what this says I want to room old Windows 98 software on a 64 bit Win 8 point one box I've heard a virtual box but I haven't tried it would let me run Windows 98 inside a 64 bit Win 8 point one So this is what a very a quite new computer running very very old software inside they call them sometimes some boxes on the the idea being that you run them in inside a safe as it were inside your own computer Yeah exactly runs it runs in as a virtual machine on that box so it will be given you no resources and it will think it's running on it's own it's own operating system one's own computer yes absolutely that this can be done is still done these days when for example software developers want to make sure that their software runs on different platforms they're not going to have a dozen different machines sitting around so they'll just run you know Windows x.p. Windows 7 Windows $88.00 whatever it is running in a virtual machine so yes you can absolutely do that by the way for those that are interested if you've got a mac and you want to run Windows you can run it in the way that Apple allow you to run it but you can also run it in a virtual machine and the software you. Used there would be something like parallels so you can do is a good way of doing things it's a good way if for example if you've got some old legacy software some maybe typically things like accounting software that you rely upon because it's got your accounts on it and has done for 20 years the company may not even exist or that made that software they certainly don't do any updates to it but you still need to run it how do you run it because it won't run on even on you know Windows 7 that's how you don't you run it as a virtual machine and it has the benefit of making it harder for any viruses and so forth to jump you can do it but it's very difficult for a virus to jump out of a virtual machine. Onto its host machine. Lovely that's a perfect solution I think. It's not something I've ever really done really of never sort of like trying to run older operating systems of the same type within something I mean. Isn't it time sometimes just to try and find a more modern solution to that software problem and know that there are sometimes printers sometimes have real problems trying to deal with more modern software but is it is a danger should you be doing it or should you be looking for the newer software Well you know sometimes it does really become time to bite the bullet but occasionally more than the cation it's often a valid approach at least as an interim measure so you may have a machine that's died on you you've been able to pull off the data file you've got the original disk but now you can install it on your shiny Windows Time Machine So there you know you create a virtual machine running Windows $98.00 or preferably 2nd not 90 se I would suggest and you install it on there and then yes maybe you have to sit and spend a month thinking how you're going to do the migration in an orderly fashion but this gives you the opportunity to do that other people just say that you know this software is never going to run on a modern operating system and that's the only way I'm going to be able to do it the other thing is often you mention printers it's often driver support you may have. A much cherished piece of hardware that just will never run on a modern operating system because the the supplier of the hardware has long since stopped doing that so I'll give you an example people who work in recording studios often use things with interface only known as Firewire fi Why was was was going to be this great or great way of transferring information in fact it is but it never really took off outside certain circles and yet people might have all sorts of audio interfaces or other interfaces that require a firewire drive and that in the future maybe. That the likes of Apple and even Microsoft drop support for the firewall driver and the only way you're going to be able to run those old bits of equipment the only solution you ever have because it's called for wire interface on it is to run it an older version the operating system in the virtual machine effect effect if anyone wants to see file I think I'm out of my carriage and see the 3 or 4 drives that are sitting in there now because the computer that I've got now doesn't have the blasted plug on the side. A recurring what about what about if a thunderbolt to far back tries happened that I don't want those I wired those I've got my house is full of those white adapters they go from one bit of a computer to the other one and I really don't need any more. I guess the thing about that is if it's if it's to attach a far wire peripheral It depends what the peripheral is if it's a hard drive then that obviously means that device is probably of an age and is not you know not greatly worth saving However if it is a you know a high end audio interface that cost many hundreds of pounds and still works perfectly well except for the way it communicates you know that that is a good fix and that the the lightning thunder the the the story the fire wire to. Thunderball adapter is a good way forward but what I would say that doesn't mean even if you so you couldn't so you've got a mac and it's got some Thunderbolts on it and you put Thunderbolts a lightning adapter thunderbolt too far wiretapped on it the thing about that is it was the computer will still need to have a far wider driver for that to work the fact that you can physically. Converted into a thunderbolt doesn't mean it's going to work without the driver so I think there are many good reasons to have that and also it's not just overt sions of Windows that you can run on more modern version of Windows you can run as we've for that group. Loses 2 you know Windows 10 or 7 or 8 to 8 point one on a mac you can run Linux you can run all sorts of you can run and draw it you know in a box you know so it's great for developers but it's also great if you want to experiment let's say you want to learn how to use Linux and you've got no machine that's too old to run the modern version of Windows you want to run Linux operating system on it but you know he maybe just want to learn in between doing other things on your main machine as he held out where you're going as the old adage goes Thunderbolt a lightning very very frightening to 17 the time I wait 085909693 is the phone number and Richard in Newport has given us a ring a very good morning t. I get confused between ghosting metering and backup What's the difference and what is the result when you do it because you know right Ok well mirroring is where you make a bit copy of a driver of a portion of the drive what I mean by that is that the data is made up of of bytes there are in turn made up of bits and each of those bits is mirrored it's made it makes a mirror image a copy of each bit so the Dr has a perfect copy of it it's a mirror image of the drive that you copied a backup can be a mirror a mirror image but it can also be just copying across files into a different folder into a different structure so that the backup doesn't have to resemble identically the the source of the backup and what has folders in the same tree. Yes they can do but for example it's quite common when you do a backup to compress. That that and also you can have a cold incremental and differential backups of these are ways of not having to every time you do a backup backup everything all over again because if you're backing up a large amount of data this doesn't really make a lot of sense if you're going to back up frequently to back it up every fall all over again so what it is other types of backup allow you to do so is backup only those files of change so you you've done a full backup today tomorrow you only backup the files or change since yesterday the day after the I mean the faster changes that after that then you when you reinstate all restore your backup you have to use all of those backups together from today yesterday and tomorrow and that way you can get back to where you were but it what it means is that your your your backup will then take potentially seconds instead of hours every stored affordance with the same problem. So for Yes it yes it should do it because you mean there can be settings for that inside software but typically it would it would. Make copies of those files as they were that time Bear in mind if you're using Backup software as opposed to you know simply just copying across farms manually as I suggested to Nigel when he wanted to you know copy across these photos then the backup file will not depends how you do it but typically a backup file can be a big single file that acts as a bucket for all the other files so it just contains within it the information to recreate those files and that information will include you know its creation date modification dates and so forth so you know the the devil is in the detail but it's certainly possible to do backups whereby you. Retain all of that information and that would also be you know important for example for photographs and so forth you don't want certain. Metadata for the photographs Yeah where we're at here yeah it's exactly you don't you don't want the location change all of that the creation date changed all the weave in the editing date change and it shouldn't need to be changed unless you start opening those files up individually and if you have good backup software you can also even though you've backed up everything you can also go in and pluck out an individual file that you need rather than having to reinstate a whole whole backup so there's a lot you know there's a lot of different types of backups that you can do but sometimes I want to go see ghosting if it's not strict but I mean it's again you can refer just to these mirror images so you know some of these are recommend if I've got true I've got one of my situation I've got a p.c. Laptop. We. Can come in a case the only thing I can do is track to reset to get rid go see Yeah hi. And that's when I was on talk talk and entering a period when they lacked all of it so I was just too so what I use mirrors to mirror the. Hard drives. But what I use backup I would in the 1st instance I would do a mirror image of that drive and then. I'm a bit fastidious about backing up having having been caught out myself so I the 1st thing I do is up to a mirror image or clone of that drive which means that you know if if all else fails you could just reinstate that and start again and do whatever else you want to do then I would use. I'd use of 3rd party piece of software I'd get something for example from a Cronus would would be a good place to go and then I would do a complete backup now. Cronus have got. A version of this software the true image software that allows you to do backups and then reinstating to dissimilar machines so this is a very clever trick if let's say you've got loads of applications that you need to get on to another machine and you don't have the original disks anymore and maybe it's not possible to download those applications anymore cronies have a technology is very clever when it works it works beautifully. It allows you to back up everything and then reinstated onto it completely different machine different operating system different architecture and why that's clever is because normally that shouldn't and wouldn't work because the drivers the bits of software that are specific to that installation won't work automatically on another machine but this the software can do that but I would I mean for everybody now before anybody has a problem because we will all one day suffer a drive that will go bad or we'll lose the use of by some other means it's really important to think about what data we hold what just do a thought experiment what how would I feel and what would be the consequences if everything on that computer were to go I have to say that a few weeks ago I. Can control a in can and picked up all my photos yes and I thought that they were the photos in the recently deleted for a photo album and they weren't they were the master copies and as I pressed delete and 38000 photographs disappeared Yeah I've never ever a been so scared and be been so grateful and thankful for cloud based systems that actually back up your photographs how many backups of your main data need your precious day to deal. Well the recommendation I mean I go bit over the top 5 some that. Go on to go on. Oh I've got them stuck all over the place encrypted them hidden you know so. But the recommendation is that you should have at least one copy off site that can be cloud based but some data is not really well suited to being stored on the clap because we lose control over it and so so that say if it's you know a copy of all my favorite podcast it doesn't matter if I store that in the cloud If however it is you know very personal photographs I wouldn't personally put those in the cloud because I don't want them being subject to hacking and we have seen you know high profile cases of that happening of say my my personal photos and all that interesting I just wouldn't want to share them particularly so so you need an off site backup that can be cloud or partly clout but it can also be as simple as doing a backup to an external drive and then taking it right on to You Tube to your mom's house or you know brother's house or sister's house whatever just keeping it there the important thing about that is to make sure that that backup is entirely and securely encrypted so that if it were to be stolen. That the data is installed and I need to draw if you need to do that the reason why you need that off site backup is if you imagine if you only backup is on that external hard drive sitting next to your computer and got forbid there is a fire or there was a break in a thief who steals your computer is quite likely to pick up the drive next to it as well so with it goes your data and the backup in one fell swoop similarly you know fire flood whatever pestilence any of these problems can lose your backup if you haven't got one that's offsite as well. And in terms of the frequency of backup thing again think about how much data you're prepared to lose if you only do your backup once a. A year that means you're willing to lose up to a year's data if that if the answer to the question how much States you know willing to loses is one day then you have to back up daily and that's not you can automate that mac users you know are lucky they have automated systems that can backup automatically p.c. Users you know Windows does have backup software built into it and it's adequate is not the most sophisticated backup software but you know what most people aren't going to spend the money on that or at least in the beginning they're going to use the built in software and then if they decide discover they want to do something more sophisticated then they'll pay for something like you know a chrome use or one of the other paid for products brilliant excellent. I'm scared of my man number of backups and actually where my backups are that's another problem that. It's definitely a 1st world problem isn't the how many backups do I offer and where are they. Laptop works fine but it won't connect to a website any website at all it says the signal strength is excellent but downloading it just says waiting to connect to the site it never actually connects to a site what can be the matter Ok well you know I would normally ask you a number of questions like was was this working fine yesterday as it were what changed Are you aware of any changes if it's in a new laptop it may be for example that you have a fire wall running on the. On the computer itself or you know in your you know router that may be blocking access to websites and maybe a piece of security software that's got a far wall in it that just doesn't like the look of it and you know the port that the data is coming through is suspicious and therefore it stops it so. What I would do is just do a little bit of experimentation to try and identify where the problem is so for example install if you don't already have a 2nd browser on your machine and by the way that's good advice for for anyone always have more than one browser. On your computer because if you ever have a problem with one browser probably going to need to download a fixed or in some some ways shape or form which you won't be able to do if you know any browser you've got isn't working so you can install the Browns even if your machine hasn't got Internet access you can do a download of a browser off another machine and plug it in via u.s.b. And install it that way so I would install the 2nd browser or fire up a 2nd browser it's already there and I would see if the other browser can access those websites I would also far up another program that uses the Internet such as an email program and I don't mean web based email but if you've got for example outlook on your machine or another software that can access the Internet let's see if the Internet is actually excessive will by that machine at all or if it's a problem with the Internet so we can start to start to work out is the problem with the browser is a problem with the Internet service. Will that machine for example access the Internet in a different location if you take it to a coffee shop for example can you log on to their wife I I wouldn't recommend doing that for anything useful why 5 public Wi-Fi is generally not secure but just as an experiment you know you could take it to a friend a relative's house and try it out so is the problem specific to your location is it specific to the application try and work that out and this is specific to the to the browser. Beyond that we can we can then start to look at it if if it's working for example with another browser then you know that the problem is with the setup of that specific browser and one way of doing that in this is almost like all switch off and switch on again is uninstalling. Thank you Nic And hello. The problem really starts with the fact that I bought a mac in the backend of 2030 which was running on the operating system lion which is 10.7.5 and very soon after. Quite the machine 8 Grade 8 by which time I'd already bought a load of music production software some of which was superseded by the new models and was then incompatible with the operating system upgrade so I realize that the money that is being invested was potentially lost unless of course I just held on to the existing operating system which is what type chose to do I'm running a logic probe $9.00 and I was running along with our quite happily until a call to a stage where the system had upgraded several times and I was quite happy staying with the stuff which I bought right at the outset but of course it was then becoming limited in what I was able to buy. I then realized as I didn't use this assignment for anything else other than the music stuff that might be wise to backup the files although I didn't have an awful lot on the air it was just a case that I'd got you know substantial amount of software so I decided to use the m built facility of the apple time machine to backup and I call myself I hard drive now the problem is the operating system is upgraded several times since then and I realize that the only way for me to go forward was to back it up and then upgrade the system accept the loss. As of the earlier stuff and by some new technology I moved along the problem is that when I got myself a hard drive to try and work it alongside the time machine device it wouldn't work it just keeps refusing to back up and having spoken to Apple support what it comes down to basically is that the hard drive which I have requires a later operating system to enable me to backup which of course I can't do because I can't but great deal for rating system. So I'm now in a in a beautiful catch 22 with no easy way forward with this but I'm trying to ensure that I'm I progress in some way by firstly solving the solution of a backup and then you know I'm creating the operating system and accepting the losses of my earlier 'd technology but what I mustn't do is lose any of the music projects which I have on file and just to add to the Maya the music technology itself has also been upgraded so we're now into Logic Pro x. Which is incompatible with the earlier system in its newest form so I can just simply upgrade that So are going to write old bit of a pig's ear here and I've got to try remember unravel the best way forward can you suggest it was a tricky one Donna thanks for laying that out so so beautifully I mean that's quite complex but I think I understood most of it's a thank you for that so the 1st thing I'd say to you is. Studio uses recording artist so people use what you have so far often get to the point where everything is working well the machine is dedicated to that function and they actually join not to ever upgrade it Ok And they they will even keep that machine off loin and just treat it as if it was you know it a drum machine or something like that in other words you know you don't have to go in to flash and so for every 5 minutes if it works take it offline if it's dedicated machine doesn't have to be. As for email and surfing and what have you then you know you can continue to run the old version if your machine than is capable of running a more modern operating system just just so I'm clear on one thing are you as things stand I able to make backups but not retrieve them is that is that the situation I'm not I'm not I'm not Sable to make a backup a tall and when I spoke to our core support they suggested that a potential solution which would help me forward would be to try to get a legacy update to Mavericks Yeah but I mean I've no idea how I source that because I know that Apple doesn't provide that now because it's long gone but you know it's it is it is one of these things where. The whole 'd thing I can work with it as it is and it would seem to me that maybe the whole whole idea would be best left just to go out and buy a new new laptop say to work alongside it on the modern systems which would be out of me but it might but it's not the sort of money I have to be able to you know it's a big no no Ok so I look I think the thing is before we start doing anything else we do need to get a backup of everything as it is now because the more we tinker the the more the chance of we messed things up and you know we need to be able to roll back to back up your machine can create a backup of its data at the moment but that doesn't mean that you couldn't for example borrow or hire another mac access your existing mac in Target Disk Mode which is whereby the external mac appears to be just an external drive it could be any sort of data on that and use the 2nd mac to backup all the data on the 1st onto an external drive Ok I know that's a bit you know around the houses but what that means is that you can do a complete backup you not even be able to reinstate it at that point but if you need to you'll be able to again using a 2nd machine once you've done that once you've got everything backed up and backed up more than once and you've even done. Test restore onto another device and make sure that the backup is sound then what you could to is upgrade your machine to the latest version of the operating system that it will run install parallels and we mentioned it before so proud of those is is one of these piece of virtual virtual machine software but it runs really nicely and then inside a virtual machine when running empower those create. An older version of the operating system again so you could create lion or mountain line for example the the the most current version where it would still work and then you can use that to to reinstate the data from the backup when running the virtual machine and the really nice thing about using something like Parallels is that although it runs virtual machines it gives you the ability to transfer data between them on the same machine and it's a trick that for example Windows uses use on a mac where for example you can run Windows in a virtual machine on a mac but still take advantage of the gestures and some of the other functionality in fact you know I've seen some really clever things being done with Paradox and that's why I'm suggesting that as opposed to just any other virtual machine because you've got things like v.m. Ware and so forth that you could choose but but that would be my approach step one backup everything even if it means using a 2nd machine which you can borrow or hire oversee time backup onto the 2nd machine because you're going to have to give that back back up onto an external drive possibly the driver you were they have one other one once you've done that and you know that your data is safe then do backup to the latest version because of of the operating system that it will run once you've done that install parallels it is a paid for program but you know it will pay for itself many times you know in a short time then create a virtual machine using Lion Mountain law and or as I say. The most common version that will still support what you're trying to do and then you can copy the data across from there if you need to in and if you still need to run logic 9 as opposed to 10 then you can still run inside that virtual machine of and the other thing to say is of course eventually when you do get an in your machine so you said use is 2013 so yes purchased in the backend of 2013 but it was actually running line at the time as a side upgrade followed about literally months not 2 months later Yeah isn't it isn't it the way well soon at some point soon you'll need to use as a dedicated machine anyway because it will stop accepting you know current updates and even if it does to be operated safe Some even if it does it will probably run too slowly did you say it was on my mac Yes Yeah it was the top top of the range top spec whether bought at the time yeah and how much ram has to call in 12. So that's I mean that's going to run your virtual machines in a very healthy way and that's often the you know that's often the issue with running virtual machines is that you need you know a shitload of ram memory in there so that not only the host operating system has going off memory to run speedily but so is a virtual machine. For an upgrade it to a. Few months ago yet you do know what generation processor you have and I can't remember off the top of most it is a joke or a quad core I think it's called core actually can you see that machine even given its age despite its age it's it's a perfect platform for running virtual machines on yeah you know so you'll be able to run current only a current operating system software and logic 10 and everything else and and you'll still be able to run the other stuff in virtual machines and as a say we're parallels it has a very nice tricks for being able to have your cake and eating it as it were in terms of the data and the corporation between the 2 Normally if you sort of Jewel what's called Jewel booting machines or sometimes you can set up a computer be a Macor p.c. Such that as it starts up you choose which operating system to run so Apple give you something called boot camp where you can install windows and then or on a mac and then choose whether you want it to be a Windows p.c. Or a mac as you started up but once you've made that decision that decisions made until the machine is shut down and restarted but with something like parallels you can actually. Run both at the same time and sift data between the 2 I've just had to look actually down. To see what your You're on your computer will actually run and there's a new operating system coming out from Apple in and now whenever they decide to open it and release it it's saying that all the models of your computer from 2009 will run it so you have got some life in there. Yet long as you can get up there in the mean time and do that but the key thing is just is just ensuring that I don't lose what's important in the interim you know I go to a stage where I felt like I was just about to bash my head against a brick wall and I thought well you know I might as well just upgraded and see what happens but unfortunately some of the data on there it just can't be lost and that's why it was why I'm saying to you even if it means hiring a machine for a day which obviously would be extreme but if you if you have a friend or colleague that's going to make that will you know allow you to use it for this purpose you promised them you're not going to put any dates on their machine or you can do is use it to back up your machine that's really the key because you know as we as we fiddle you know things can will go wrong and things can be lost and you know you can dig yourself deeper and deeper as you try and fix them before we know it data recovery bill. But but if you've got a you know multiple backups of different types in different locations then then go ahead. I wouldn't like to put something like that on to my p.c. On this I really knew what was on it and what it was doing. So my preferred approach would be to use a free trial of a recognised security software So for example you could go to the same mantic website and download a fully featured version of Norton security it will run for a month at which time you can either go and install another free software or or pay and have have 12 months have 13 months because you've had the woman free. Ah I would do that now you've mentioned the fact that there may be other security software on there some sorts of security software can co-exist but antivirus programs should not have to have more than one of them installed on a machine same time and the reason for that is that when an antivirus program is protecting you it's running in the background and every time you go to access a file you are about to open a Word father or an email or whatever it gets in and said it's like a food taster for the king it gets in between system back I'm going to check it 1st and then oh yeah I think it's funny hands over now that doesn't work very well if the king has to food tasters because they're fighting over the same piece of food and who's going to taste it and that can cause terrible problems in terms of the stability and speed of that computer so you need to determine what what security software is being run already if there is decent software on there and it's being kept up to date then what you need to do is what's called a full system scan and for a Windows machine the best way of doing that is in something called Safe Mode which is a diagnostic mode of Windows it's basically windows in its most basic form without all the bells and whistles that normally run in the background it starts up on a machine you normally get into by type. The f.a. To key the function make as you're starting up the computer every one or 2 seconds just tap a fate until it until it starts up in in what looks like official price version of Windows because it's big and bold with some you know you think something terrible has happened. Might my general including is go for one of the tried and trusted solutions like you know Norton or Kaspersky or he said if you want to get security software because that you know that's that's the best this one we don't really know what it's running and you know and this is a product from one of these not even stables my inclination would be you know even without having tested it to go for what I know because you know security software isn't the right place to be innovative you know and I don't know what it would still be the one you spoke of before 3600 and if it was the semantic what one would that be but you know what you meant so Norton is a brand of sign mantic research no don't don't apologize I'm not sure that they still do a product called Norton 360 used that they also had something called Norton Internet Security but I believe it's a scald Norton security now but as I say that the joy of that is that you can just download it for free and it's fully functional for a whole month and at the end of the month if you decide you want to to you know pay for a year then you don't have to reinstall the software and you get 12 months from the from that time so in other words you get 13 months coverage in all the one thing I would say to you about antivirus and security software in general generally is be careful what you pay for it I believe that security software is worth paying for I believe that you can get tangible benefits from paid security software as opposed to free but having said that I don't believe in paying more for it than I have to and with Norton and with the others off and on renewal you know you might have it there for a year and then he says although you'd like to renew 40 pounds No I don't think so I can probably do that for $1015.00 or most 20 pounds if I shop around so I don't just. Thumb drive just allow you to pop into the device reboot it and if your device is set up in the white that it will look for those as boot drives before dupes the hard drive they will then just boot off that so you don't actually have to install them the operating system will load from the district the into the ram memory of your computer and there you haven't been to computer Another approach is to install it and that machine becoming a boon to machine for all time and the 3rd way is to do what we alluded to before which is a jewel boot so you can create you split the hard drive up into 2 sections known as partitions on one partition you have your windows or whatever it is and on the other one you have a bomb suit and then you set it up in such a way that when you switch on that machine starting up it gives you a choice would you like me machine a would you like me to be able to the problem with that is. 1st of all we will then splitting the hard drive space between the 2 because they can't use a space of each one can't use the space of the other and it's a lot of hassle if you then decide oh you know I don't want to bin too I want mints or one of the others in distributions so a better way to do it is again we've it's almost like you know we call synergy in this program because it's it's all coming together we've we've mentioned before virtual machines a better way to run. A distribution of Linux such as a prince who might be to run it inside a virtual machine under Windows or on a mac so there's but version you know free virtual machine software that you can run on on your p.c. That will enable you to experiment with if you don't like it just delete that virtual machine and create a new one or have more than one on the hard drive and just flip between the message as you wish to so that's the way to experiment with it you don't really want to be you know messing up with messing about with your boot process on your machine unless you know it's what you want to do permanently because it takes a you know it takes a little bit of know how to set up a job machine and and it takes quite a bit of work to then kill that partition and put something else onto it instead so I would say a virtual machine at least to the you know what it is you want whether you can to keep that distribution whether you're going to change to another one whether you're going to use it as well as Windows or instead of Windows that would be the way to go and particularly with a new operating system it's not just the operating system you've got to learn you have to learn about what applications are valuable to do what you want to do you know will the profits run will the others run how will they run are you happy with them that takes some time so this is a bit of a project you know and if you've got the time it's great. Otherwise you know you may just want to choose another operating system and stick to it. Receiver in it why is that important well because you can do a number of things with it 1st of all you can look at the room where you've been and examine the root of 2 is where you've been if that's of interest to you but also if there is an incident it will be able to record what was your speed which lane where you were going and that information gets in coded into the video footage that it shoots so there's much more detailed information that's the sort of information that might make the difference between a claim going against your gun your case not the party or proving your innocence you know that you can actually see that you weren't drunk they could show there's a wreck order the fact that you were driving a radically or speed wasn't varying you were going from lane to lane because the g.p.s. Will allow the device to recall that information in addition the 230 has some very interesting features it has something called lane departure warning systems a bear mind this is a camera looking forward through your windscreen so it can see the white lines it can see when you're in line and when you're folding asleep and starting to veer outside the lane and it will alert you to the fact that you veering out of your lane that's the type of thing that costs thousands to get on cars. It is active and looks for any movement near the car when it's parked now I'm a bit ambivalent about this because it means that when your car is parked in a in a very hood that apparently you are somewhat worried about you've got your dash cam on full display so that might make a tempting target but the idea is if anyone comes too close to your vehicle it will it will start to record them straight away and that's you know it's a useful thing it's a safeguard again if someone you know comes up to your vehicle it will make a recording of them it's called a built in battery by the way so you can only interrupt a ball recording so even if you're involved in a crash when the battery dies it can still carry on recording for a period of time so no desk time is perfect but this one is very close to it I've given it for half stars out of 5 it's called the transcend drive problem to 30 as a say I think it's a good purchase you know but with all these things if you do buy them buy them in the way that you can return them if you don't like it because you know people's expectations of these devices can can be very different. Is really worth having because it's my real improvements in our us 11 there's a there's something that looks like a filing system in their last so you can actually start to easily swap files between applications there are other benefits as well I would say I o s 11 is going to be a keeper for that reason I would say to you that this is an ideal point in time to get yourself a more modern device if you if you want to stay with Apple. You could still get a replacement battery and use it as a secondary device either to another member of the family or so forth but bear in mind you won't be able to run the us 11 on it and the problem with that is it's not just not being able to run the us of f m it's that you won't be able to get security updates for the version of virus that you are running because Apple are not market soft when they stop. A new version of the operating system so from 10 to morning so from 10 to 11 they start to come back and stop the the security updates as well so then the machine becomes somewhat unsafe to use so for these reasons I think that there is an amount of built in obsolescence by Apple some of it is necessary but some of it in my view is not strictly necessary and it means that you know. This system won't be well supported and it's the equivalent of running Windows x.p. You know marks off no longer support Windows x.p. But Windows x.p. Was supported for 13 years and I think there's a big difference between 3 to 4 years and 13 years and I think as you know Apple grows up as a company and it has more more users it's perhaps incumbent upon it to shift that balance between innovation and supporting legacy users and I think that balance perhaps needs to shift a little bit and I think I'm sure it will in time but but I'd encourage them to do that more quickly perhaps this is again we we come across a question the links to people James in whole and Gabriel from bonus. The dictatorship began to you know say where some of these people were and what was really happening it was a lot of a lot of complicity there a lot of people who knew people were being disappeared but were just too scared to speak out do you think without the role of the newspaper that those those stories those events would not have become public. I mean Or perhaps they would have become public I mean the administration the us. For example when Jimmy Carter came to office he was involved in the embassy was involved in trying to identify some of these people and putting more pressure economically on the junto but I think the Herald was really the 1st to name these acts that were happening the 1st publicized them and to be honest they got away with it for the 1st couple of months because the gent who weren't really looking at you know the news in English and I think that says a lot about you know in that time what the role of the medium like us was able to I mean specifically the fact that you were English you were an English speaking newspaper I mean that most of them must have been during during the times during during the times the gentle That must have been a really difficult thing to deal with Yes I mean especially obviously when you consider that there was the you know the Falklands War or the Maoist war as they call it here in that time as well. It's really I think you know the legacy of the Herald obviously we've become identified with the Human Rights Movement because of what Robert did and since then subsequently in in the years we we focused a lot on human rights and I think that is really where our flag has been laid I think. Especially like I was saying before in Latin America there are lots of human rights stories for example in Honduras with the disappearance of land activists at the moment in Brazil in Mexico a lot of these things I think don't make it into the wider English press say perhaps in Britain or in the United States and I think that's where you know the Herald will really be missed sorely are going to say do you think others will take on the role in the remit of the Herald or. Regulations requiring refugees to seek asylum in the 1st country that they reach applies even in exceptional circumstances this is an interesting one because if you remember during the big migrant crisis of 2015 a 16 month the borders along the western Balkan countries were open and thousands of people were coming through the western Balkans. To Austria and then on to Germany. A lot of people were applying for asylum in various different countries and of course a lot of people wanted to to do that in Germany quite a lot of people did it here in Austria about one percent of this country's population and. During that time normally if you apply for asylum in the e.u. You're supposed to do it in the 1st e.u. Country you reach which would have been Greece or in the case of some of these people Croatia. But that wasn't happening during the migrant crisis but now Europe's top court has ruled that in some cases. Austria was right to have sent people back to Croatia who originally applied for asylum here how many peoples are likely to affect. At the moment we think it will affect just a few 100 the many of the people who applied for asylum here in Austria or in Germany are just going to be allowed to stay there but over the last year the Austrian authorities have been looking into a number of people and it's not quite clear to me certainly as to why they picked certain families or certain people and decided to deport them to Croatia but they have done that. And now those people are likely to have to stay in Croatia and not although they had lived in Austria for almost a year in some cases over a year. They're now been sent there with the interesting thing is that NGO groups say that in Austria 65 percent of asylum claims are accepted in Croatia it's only about it is houses can. Engineer groups say that Austria. Turns down about 28 percent of people who claim asylum here in Croatia they turn down 65 percent so some of these people even if they've come from Syria or Iraq or places like that have a much lesser chance of getting asylum in Croatia than they do in Austria and the quality of. Care but the quality of. The way that they are welcomed in each country differs as well as. Very much indeed I mean I was here in Austria people are given housing people are given education health care I was in Croatia recently at the the shelter where a lot of these people who were deported are now living one family told me they were living 7 people to one small room but they weren't getting the medical attention they needed the children weren't in school so there's a very big difference. It seems to go in a seasonal basis as well. Isn't it in terms of the the way that the countries try and deal with the migration crisis that you know here we are in the middle of a summer so it's a warm time of the year so so it seems that the countries think they can get away with with what they want to this time knowing that down the line you've got a winter period where is going to be much colder where it's much more difficult to move people around is the feeling the think that the that now is a good time to make decisions like this because people have a few months to get their lives in order wherever they are going to be. Well that it was interesting this particular court ruling was about was him involved 2 cases one family from Afghanistan and one Syrian man. And they had argued that they had been wrongly deported. And they have actually I mean one of the one family of Afghanistan had been here for a long time so the timing of the particular court case I think is a bit separate but certainly there is a feeling that at the moment summertime is the time when it's much easier for people to move around but it's also a time when I've noticed here in Austria for example politicians are really. Speaking out very much against the flow of more migrants and refugees here there's really a sense of the drawbridge being being pulled up certain on the political level is not always what you find among. Ordinary Austrians you know that the readiness to help is is quite strong here but certainly politically there's a sense of no we don't want any more. That's interesting as well because if you look at what's happening with Austria on the borders with with Italy the problems are there as well. Yes it's been quite interesting I mean Austria I should say before I begin this story Austria is preparing to have a general election in October and that means that all of the past she's a very very a beginning the campaign and they seem to have chosen the issue of migration as being is being a very big one and the various politicians including the foreign minister who's the head of the Conservative Party here have been making quite threatening warnings to Italy at the moment saying that. They've been looking at the number of Africans who have been arriving of the Mediterranean and saying look if if too many come we're going to shut our borders because we don't want to see the kind of scenes that we saw 2 years ago so a lot of threatening words to Italy and at $1.00 of the ministers said he was sending armored vehicles down towards the border is illegals extremely upset and said Look you're in Schengen Europe's border free zone you can't behave this way the situation at the moment is quiet on the Austrian Italian borders so why are you why you reacting in this very strong way so there was a bit of a diplomatic tiff and eventually some Italian politicians that oh actually look Austria's got an election at the moment so it's talking tough. How do you think that's going to go down with the people in the country not the politicians just the normal people. It's very interesting and it's quite divided when you talk to people here. You know some people have sympathy some people do a lot of work in terms of volunteering helping and things like this others are very concerned about the idea of of the loss of of of need people coming here even though Austria has a pretty good record in terms of integration. And managing situations quite efficiently. So it's quite divided and it really depends on he speaks of there is I was going to say I was down on the Austrian Hungary and border. 18 months ago. And the amount of donations that were given by the Austrian people was staggering. Hangars full of of every single thing that people could need to start rebuilding their lives and even up in Vienna there was a lot of sympathy and a lot of help from people people saw I remember seeing somebody bringing suitcases because the people who were in the camps there had lost their suitcases the border only still at that stage of friendliness towards people who are fleeing the problems in in the Middle East. The mood changed here very much and it changed among ordinary people and it changed among politicians there are still a lot of people who think it is right to go out and help and who do go out and help there are other people who are concerned about Muslims coming to this country even though there are quite a lot of Muslims here anyway there are people who are concerned about. Different cultures being here people people worried about jobs there is a very strong far right movement in Austria far right party and they have fanned the flames of of fears very much so it's quite. It's quite polarized here I would say. Turning to another story that's happening at the moment. I gather that the the weather where you are is an awful lot better than the weather where I am it's been miserable it's been raining for probably about. 10 days maybe last night now you're getting it's an awful lot hotter over there and you. Well put it this way I'm standing outside now very late at night. It pushing 30 degrees centigrade I would say. And last night. The lowest temperature recorded here in Vienna was about 27 degrees centigrade so you know making it the hottest night of the last night was the hottest night of the year so far it's very very hot I love it a lot of people don't. Really get to that point though doesn't it because the what is great weather for some is absolutely awful for others so what are the authorities doing about it. Well they're saying the number of of days where it's very hot here in Austria is increasing over the years I mean that you can see in the last 2 years the number of days where it's over 30 degrees has has really increased and they want to make it easier for people who suffer so they're setting up a telephone helpline. And they are making sure that pharmacies give out advice and the best way of dealing with the heat. To try and make things easier for those who suffer when when it is too hot and there is of course another raising of temperatures today but a. Big downgrading probably. With regard to the football I know that you've been you've been looking at the reaction to what happened I mean it's not been great for Austria. And awareness and increasing in education and things like that we would hope would be increasing the number of people going to testing our more people more young people having more unprotected sex is that is that part of it. Well possibly I mean obviously we're seeing increases in some of the sexually transmitted infections and awareness of those infections may be leading some people to be worried about them getting tested. More sex with more different people is probably more socially acceptable now as well and so with the advent of dating apps and things like that perhaps more people are having sex with casual partners that's a that's a death that's definitely happening you're seeing are happening through in Numbers are you that the the app on our phones is meaning that we're having more sexual partners but I think that's I think that's going to have a big part of play I think society the attitudes towards sex and casual sex with people is probably changed as well which is probably leading to more frequent partner change as well and one of the one of the problems has been that the the local authorities for the past 4 years I think it is have been in charge of running . Clinics and education over s.t.r. Eyes. And they haven't particularly perhaps got the money to do that are we seeing the effect how how are we seeing the effects of of cup banks affecting services. So you're absolutely right there's been quite significant cuts in public health funding and those public health budgets in many places being passed on to the sexual health clinic services and having budgets cut which is having an impact on access to patients and as I said getting people tested and treated early is very important to prevent onward infection and if the access has been reduced to to budget cuts then that's also going to have an impact when you talk about access to services the n.h.s.
