I don't 5 I'm Dalton at it by income and I mean this on the program an eyewitness tells us about the deadly mass shooting at the C.L.O. Vista mall in El Paso Texas the local police department there appealing for blood donors. Many people have already been killed and there are many people critically injured in office and we'll have the latest also on the work to shore up the way the bridge dam ahead of what's feared will be challenging rain for later today and we'll hear why health officials in the U.S. State what Wisconsin no warning people not to very well after 11 teenagers and young adults were hospitalized we've seen very long damage we try to make sense of the science behind the warning and do remember in an hour's time when I open up the phone lines for our Virgin Jew books phone in the country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and the rapper Lil Nas acts. They've got a song to govern Sound Road has become the longest running number one song so our question to you is what choosing is your favorite musical collaboration What's your favorite musical collaboration 1st in the last half hour police in Texas have confirmed that 20 people have been killed in a shooting at a shopping mall in El Paso the massacre happened at a Wal-Mart store near the Vista mall in El Paso Texas which is a few miles from the U.S. US Mexico border a man is in custody is believed to be the sole shooter authorities have just been holding a press conference with an update from the chief of police in opacity Greg Allen active shooter a call went out this morning to 911 at 10 39 am police response 1st officer on the scene was 10 45 am a 6 minute response. From this shooter we have 20 confirmed fatalities and we have 26 wounded. The ages and genders of all these people injured and killed are numerous in the age groups. Situation Needless to say as or. Crime scene is being assisted by the F.B.I. Various law enforcement agencies respond to this scene sheriff's department D.P.S. Border Patrol everyone that carries a badge in this town pretty much showed up to that particular scene but needless to say the scene is a Arifin one fortunately because of the nature of the situation the scene will be in play for a long period unfortunately the deceased will remain at the scene until the scene is process properly for evidence repurpose this to be gathered for later prosecution the state of Texas will be the lead agency or entity prosecuting this particular individual has a nexus that is will point in time to a hate crime the F.B.I. Will be looking into that with other federal authorities but right now we're looking at potential capital murder charges for this individual I'm not going to give us a name right now he's a 21 year old white male of of Allen Texas. The chief of police in no Paso Texas Greg and in his speech and the corresponding pizza bows down pizza we know that 20 people in the dead how many more people. 26 more are injured and we know that some of those people are in a critical condition there's a wide range of ages earlier we were hearing as young as possibly 4 months up to senior citizens some with known life threatening injuries but obviously some who were very very clearly seriously injured and currently being treated in 2 major hospitals in the area we were just listening to that press conference with the chief of police you know past what did we learn from the. Well we learned the latest numbers we heard a lot of plaudits for the law enforcement officials who responded very quickly local officials praising the community response as well the governor. Saying that El Paso would be defined not by the tragedy but the by the way that it responded and came together and similar sentiments from Demarco who's the mayor of El Paso saying that the community would not be defined by the evil act of violence we're also beginning to get discussion about possible motive the chief of police made reference to what has been described as a manifesto which may have been written by the gunman this document has been posted online and the police and F.B.I. Are investigating whether this money 1st written anonymously it seems by a white nationalist. And suggests that the shooting was a targeted attack on this shopping mall at the local Hispanic community and the significance of this is that it would be considered could be considered a hate crime and the investigation would essentially be taken over at a federal level by the F.B.I. If they believe that there is substance to this but for now it is being considered a murder a capital murder investigation which means the possible penalty if eventually found guilty will be the death sentence by and it's being led by the officials by the Texas police police local officials in El Paso the chief of police is reticent about giving as much information about the man in custody do we know anything more than his own image. We know that he comes from a town near Dallas which is a very long away way away from El Paso it is probably at least an 8 hour drive so this was a local officials saying an outsider to the town this crime they say wouldn't have been committed by someone from El Paso that they've described as an otherwise very safe town very community spirited town of course very close to the Mexican border it is predominantly Hispanic I would say about 80 percent of the people who live there are Hispanic so this person the suspect has come in from out of town and clearly now the row for investigators will be to find out more about him they will be traveling to his home they'll want to look at his computers at his phones to see if he was perhaps in discussions with with other people and to establish more concrete on a more concrete basis what his motive for this attack was one of the authorities. Sure this was a lone gunman. They seem to be fairly sure they are saying that he is the only suspect certainly at the moment is the only person in custody there were reports a few hours ago now early on that there may have been a 2nd or indeed 3rd person now those reports haven't been proven and sometimes you get this started these mass shootings there's a tremendous amount of confusion in the early minutes people believe that they might have seen other people a 2nd or 3rd person and then as the investigation unfolds it transpires that there was in fact only one person after all that the scene has been declared to be safe there's no immediate threat they say to the public which again suggests that they're not looking for anyone else Peter thank you pre-suppose there in Los Angeles and just to reiterate if you just tuning in in the last half hour police in Texas have confirmed that a 20 people have been killed in a shooting at a shopping mall in El Paso in Texas this is the moment police evacuated the mall as the shooting unfolded. I thought. That was out was the. Was our Was. A. Well Victoria Boulder Rama filmed that footage and joins us now Victoria tell me where were you when you realized something was going on or. Well I was. Inside the mall at the lower level you know J.C. Penney it was just an average day for me I went there shopping with my parents looking for a birthday present actually. And then you heard the gunshots. So where we were we didn't really hear. Gunshots but we really didn't know what was going on at all actually there's really bad service inside the mall so I wasn't getting any updates of news that was going on outside and we were all very confused as to why we were being told to you know get in the huddle in the corner in who wait for further instruction and then the store's manager told us that there was a shooter at Dillard's which is in the 2nd level on the other side the building. You know that's whenever I started to really panic because I had never been in a situation like that before and I just kind of went to survival mode at that point . But once everyone was evacuated you know. Talking amongst ourselves a lot of people were sharing their experiences and were talking about you know hearing gunshots inside the mall and just running for their lives how long did you have to stay. Hidden and you know undercover if you like oh. Well I don't know man. Time I didn't have any real sense of time but I'd say maybe like an hour. Of just standing you know waiting to see what was going to happen. And you know we were going to exit through that J.C. Penney store. But then the SWAT team King and they in that video you see. The SWAT team telling us to put our hands up and run just run through the store run through the mall and where we would exit through Dillard's Is it a big. Oh yeah it's. It's a really big mall and especially on a day like this on a Saturday and all the kiddos are going back to school they it's really packed it's just totally jammed pack and the Wal-Mart right next to a I mean both of those stores being next to each other it's just total chaos during the weekends I can imagine and he said that he just went into survival mode what would you mean I mean I just was thinking like about my parents I was with my parents and I was thinking OK I need a wary about then and where what's going to happen to us. You know just honestly I'm thinking about what was the next step for us and I mean the SWAT team did a really good job of getting all those people out in a matter of minutes I mean I can only imagine how many people were inside the mall and they were able to you know handle that situation very well at this point you didn't know. About the deaths did you know I mean like I said we didn't have service inside the mall so I wasn't getting updates from you know news outlets of what was going on and so we didn't know how many shooters there were were they were if we were in any immediate danger. But you know even once we were waiting out there we just heard rumors of what was going on in other parts of town I heard that there was 2 other shooters in Bassett place and up in downtown and that there was about you know 30 people dead and that they were using A K 47 so we didn't have any information and. You know the police officers they were telling us to stay put and just to wait that they needed us to be patient until you know they caught these these guys. Outside when they gathered outside what would happen outside the mall when you wait to hear more news what happened. Well. We all kind of got. Talking sharing our experiences. Just trying to make phone calls to our loved ones let them know we were OK and it was really hot in all past ceiling triple digits right now and there was kiddo as elderly people that really needed assistance and you. Really not it was seems we were losing the lines pretty bad now tell me one thing before you go how people you know pass who feeling to know. Seems you've lost for jury the jury who was at the mall in question to some footage of the SWAT team uses they were shooting people out as well and then just to reiterate saying you know person at a shopping mall in the wall 20 people known to have died and his pizza Burns is telling us there are about 26 people who are injured and are in hospital some of them critically injured We'll bring you any updates on that story as and when we get them more homes are being evacuated as work to prevent damage dam in dogs or from bursting continues workers have been pumping water out of the 300000000 gallon told brew reservoir near where the bridge but the risk of collapse remains at a critical level and the Met Office is warning that more thunderstorms are largely on Saturday Margo Graham was among some of the residents allowed home for 15 minutes to collect belongings we were advised by the police we were going in the top race. And yes all right it's a calculated release me we sort of knew he needed to get things we knew we had to do things and as long as you move quickly and I would say listen all the time because they told us if we had 3 blasts on the horn we would just. I did have to walk up the red last night and just scream because I did face what a complete mess with runs a guest house where the bridge is had to shut up and leave some builders staying with me that I had to get out quick when they started the evacuation so there were cities in as well and yet just not really knowing when I can open back up and take bookings and that's advice people that we all close for the forseeable future Gallagher spent the day at the city there's been a lot of action and a lot of what's being done ahead say it often happens way breaks people have been walking around the clock try. To fix this dam and also drain water from the reservoir so when you go down to the reservoir the 1st thing that really hits you is the number of pumps in announce these really high volume pumps and you can even kid the way the motors is that desperately trying to dive away from the reservoir and then also kind of every 5 or 10 minutes we've had this quite surreal sights that you wouldn't expect in a small English town a huge green. Flying home. And then dropping. Into the parts of the wall which has been damaged and you could even see one of the crew members leaning out of the how to call. The pilot because it's such a precise operation it's almost like building blocks the old doing it to have to go in the right parts of the day for it to make any difference at all and then later on in the evening what we saw was that actually pouring concrete into the into the box trying to secure it's even We've seen lots of people down people here allowed 15 minutes to go to the house they've been going to the police checkpoints and they're allowed to go to the house for 15 minutes and pick up essential valuables medication even Pat's one man had to go down and rescue a cocktail that was trapped in his house so there's a lot a lot of activity going on here is people desperately trying to save. The town and the room. Tonight. So $55.00 more. In hole which and which is near wady bridge are people living at being asked to leave tonight that being told that they can go to rest senses police will be knocking at the door if they can't make it to family and friends or hotels so even though a lot of work has been. With the water level in the reservoir. Obviously fearing that it still could be a real danger to life because we're talking about 300000000 gallons of water which could spill out I mean. Businesses schools Paula so it really is still very dangerous and especially because of the weather today has been dry and sunny perfect conditions for the operation but some already the Met Office is issued a yellow warning for the risk of thunderstorms and there is a fear that if there is a lot of heavy rain it could undo all the work that these teams have been doing to try and fix the. Understands truth. And the challenge. Yes because they can they have to change the places where that pumping the water because if they just pump it to one stream one kind of a. Different problems in different areas they're essentially just pushing the problem downstream so it's a really really cattle operation. Of the reservoir people carrying out into officials and measuring the depth of the roof moving the pumps around the reservoir pumps will be working all through the night so if people want to be a reassured that a lot is being done listening to this that are living in the affected area the emergency services on the engineers will be working through the night they are finished. In case anything else should happen and they need to be pulled back to that if they have to say despite obviously the desperate situation for a lot of people having to leave. Things and people have been in such a good mood people have been in. Right to be grateful to the emergency services and . They couldn't have done more for the whole one fire crew helping a family all that because they were going on holiday shopping bags and suitcases. I mean people have even been making cups of tea which is pretty on her we were very very grateful for for more. On the ground hundreds from what we can say that is a very big reservoir as well so we can only see sections of it obviously people are working in shifts but definitely hundreds of people and then also you've got the back up. And say that they might not be on the ground but they will be in. A Central Command. Lots of people working through that I because I am standing. In front of a playing field usually used for playing. Football and tennis but at the moment. Right in the middle of it lots of police officers milling around because this is the central command that conducting all the operations for all as well as the emergency services also a lot of engineers down the. Up and down the looking for cracks. In track to driving up and down to the so it does seem to be a real community involving lots of volunteers and lots of agencies as well. Definitely I think a lot of people were surprised to learn that this particular was built in the Victorian era and in fact. In the U K. And that it seems that that call the core of the dam wall was made out of clay which for a lot of people they think questioning walls that's a tough enough material to be used for a down so I think from what people are saying that lots of other dams all going to be inspected to check that they all up to standard and they can cope with these huge volumes of rainwater that we have been getting as the climate is changing so I think there's going to be lots of operations up and down the country this particular dam Boris Johnson how sad it will be rebuilt they will rebuild this town and I think the residents of weighty brakes are really going to hold him to that because best thing look you can't just patch what. You have to fix it properly otherwise you're just pushing the problem a few years a few months down the line base needs to be fixed before people are killed. Across one and the bridge will have more on the news from the. Well the council's got to go through to the leader of the council in a moment about the kind of logistics that they have to consider they're very much in charge of you know the human part of this which is the impact on the local residents and so on and we'll talk about that a moment to remember the phone lines something completely different enough. Sounds an awful night attaboy I just before we went into the news headlines we were talking about the work being done to try and save the failing dam at wady bridge counsellor answer to me Kiran is the leader of high peak bar a council which is helping coordinate the response earlier he told me that they've been flat out since the crisis began after say nothing working so various longer hours than expected because as well as they incident that we're dealing with them by early breaks we also have some localized flooding in various parts of the power on Wednesday evening and the staff needed to respond so they can safely in Pakistan before we start getting called an incident that's taking up the focus at the moment and won't when you yourself as leader of Pigs borrow a council do in regards to the coordination in search of a job which will function I mean a response to the incident it's a multi-agency. Does our styles different tables from various different organizations know just from where the night they can tap a ship or particular device has problems with go for a comma cross the country that come in and arriving assistants to isn't part of it is a rather than just trying to make sure we're getting everything that we need and they you know specialist advisers are telling us that we need to be able to respond to the incident and if we are missing anything then it's our job to try and chase ople find someone that can supply that particular results that are looking for all but itself around making a show that we're able to try and get in place whatever support we can of the residents that are affected by this but other folks been there has been asked to be evacuated not just from Wiley bridge was a factor evacuation frock that label along side the river as it goes through 30 spile and new mill and we're also providing support for that as a case of making sure the Ask thing is available to respond to those concerns and assess residents as much as they can and across the various teams and agencies itself everyone is working together brilliantly and yeah that I was asked and the other agencies is just amazing given all praise and thanks to them. You know your constituents. They've been requesting. In Maine one of the say a small section of residences in terms of the people of May have accurate around that property is providing accommodation for them and allow That's a relatively small number because most people are found come a day sion with friends and relatives and for those that haven't been able to day that it's a ramp putting in place some sort of support for lab but else are now is the incident stretching on for a couple of days it's around making sure that the all the services and things like getting out to Madison. And animals which a lot of people are frankly been able to get access back to that property if you're into day to day it's getting all of those sort of issues is support put in place to be able to deal with those remote seems to be expanding by. Being event tonight. That has been yet additional 55 people from a little bit says it open while it breaks as a previously and ready again it's around providing the simple as I was that made and with getting a range is in place for that accommodation should meet and particularly as at the moment we're expecting things to stay in place the evacuations for potentially up to 7 days and from today in some cases it may well be finding additional accommodation because the ranges that it had in place for a couple of days off they were so far they may need to change that as they call them a bit longer. Indeed you have no idea how long this is going to go on for how frustrated residents. Will respect particular as it goes on a couple of days longer it will become a particular concern for or trying to make sure that any sort of additional services that I need ready a point place via the outline that we can to cancel of go out or making sure that folks can get access to any information they need and access to so potentially the discussion reformed it's something of an aid but as of making show that working with the other services agencies things like medicines are available and it's easy enough to get to of top of that was it needed again your post that's our thing and it's a range of things and particularly with us that been going back to the proper is today in some cases a ransom been able to make up facts and then try and point by said Rangers for that was depending on how much longer a guy was. In a situation like this chance that you have to prepare for the worst. Mean the main reason for the evacuations ready both in violet great and across the area the various road closures are in place at the moment is a case of us preparing for the worst I mean ready the information we're getting back from the fire service and the other agencies working on the dam Excel says it's progressing well but it's still a cause a concern to them at the moment in terms of water levels and particularly when that way of that particular fair weather tomorrow it may well present saw some further concerns but as a violent everything the very best percussions and the evacuation so far in place just in case of a worst case and you know what we're working for the best but obviously weather that my not been the outcome indeed is about the weather on Sunday a lot of that's potentially was. The storm ahead on Sunday which could destroy all the preparations up until now would you do the council in kind of situation would you say to people and how do you prepare them for. You know moving forward. There will be I know the residents mating ready tomorrow a name. And there's been significant progress made today in terms of lowering the water level so outfall that we're prepared. To extend that we can before tomorrow but to say extend it's been clay was a residence that was for working and helping call the back yeah doing in that vein a vacuum that is because of the potential risk and that we're going to be that difficult whether it's just bait and evacuate for a few days until the well levels drop sufficiently that we can let folks back in the town and move back in and then it's around supporting businesses and everyone in getting everything back open and nomo all way that it may well be something longer if the worst were to happen. If. It would be a yes or no if the West were to happen then ready the predictions that we've had from the environment I say yeah they are quite grave that's why the pick oceans are in full the various railway line as well as the roads and everything else. That we're as prepared as we can is the worst way to happen. As a moment we've got to just keep working on the basis that hopefully we can get a 4 out of the thing to be able to fix and mend in preparation for so a lot busy they tell success to call them and hopefully all together and to let. You know you have to maintain face in the engine isn't all the emergency services. If the was doesn't happen in this case where you won't see going forwards I know this is projecting. Imagine it's crossed your mind as well as what needs to have to do with this in future what we have to we obviously have a visit from the prime minister yesterday a mango in. Prison local and pay and have various coastal medicine and so on we've been had promises of support from them going forward what it will be a rally. Making sure we get a clear picture of one exactly is the whole state of the dam. The focus is they don't know the damage section of it if there are any if it is with the rest of it was the maintenance regime that the canals and river trust and go up and play you have a goal of support to be able to sell keep the mines and so on day and now there are any additional steps that we can take a will look where Him with them for any additional bodies of cases that can hopefully prevent any type of incident like this from happening again in the future and at some point you in the Council of the coast I don't doubt that the cost in cold hard cash is already up to the millions. Yeah maybe they'll be a significant bell at some point but there is a fact so for the government by the power in a scathing ready attack to be able to support for cost entailing with this type of insured and then add that up be something to look ass shy to slightly date the date for yet and will be some significant cost involved I mean all the agencies have been doing a wonderful job to get all of that quit many place their particular things that they're pitching a Kalak up to that's been doing such standing work with the after off air ad definite cost involved in that and it will be something we'll have to look at like today and work with the government to make sure the bell winds came ready back and give us the funding we need to clear those barrels I do know about the government bell when the scheme interesting counsellor and Sue McCune that the leader of high peak bar a council David Wooding is from the Sun on Sunday and Earlier I asked him how they are summing up the Prime Minister's Phillis 1st full week in office well I think it must be dawning on Boris Johnson I know it certainly has on some of the aides around him been talking so that he's got a full place had There's a lot there's a lot about being a promise it's not just about delivering breakfast. And things happen events table events is it was what it was precesses said and the events over in Wally bridge is shown that. You've got to keep your eye on the ball of the big picture of what's going on in you can I I think he did the right move getting up there straight away I took a bit of a few of us by surprise but the fact that he moved and got him self. Showed that he is responsive to. 2 events and that is willing to go and there not because out you know sometimes people say where is the prime minister while they coming to. Of course is environment secretary being up. Yesterday too so there's a lot going on. And I think he sound like quite well the byelection bit of a bullet for him I think he's one of the. I think there's any one prime minister in history who lost an M.P. More quickly than than Boris Johnson has but of course it was always going to happen questions have been asked about why he fielded the same pay or or. Had been booted out for alleged effort for expenses for or even called I think is what you're calling Yeah yeah yeah hole recalled but what wife it up but nevertheless. BRACKS It played into that again massively played into it. The Lib Dems claiming victory there we're getting an M.P. . I think that happened because all the remains of the hard remained supporters got behind the Lib Dem candidates and of course they did a deal with the Green Party and all those that applied Cameron who said we will stand down if you get behind you so all of a congregated behind the Lib Dems now of course when it didn't happen that the conservatives in the Bracks a party hadn't done the deal if that all those votes have been put together then than a pro they would have been elected so it just shows you that Bracks is playing in to every little of facet of politics at the moment and of course the prime minister had spent the week going to go into Scotland going to Northern Ireland not necessarily in that order and also against the Republicans well to sure up the U.K. On the one hand but also to have preliminary talks of a T. Shirt in Dublin with regards to this backstop and so on so when you say he's got a lot on his plate he's been he's traveled the country young and then he's had to go to Darby. And had to do with the ramifications of losing one M.P. When he is now only narrowly got majority very narrowly in parliament in search or and work a lot of people are wondering is whether we're any closer to an early general election and yes. Everything every scenario you look at leads to a general election I'm afraid I know nobody all this well know a few people won't wanna Jeremy Cole been. Desperate for one but most people think after 2 elections and a referendum in 3 years the last thing they want is and going back to the polls again. But if Bracks isn't delivered on October 31st that's the way it's heading and a law is defining on we've got $88.00 days until breakfast. So we will know pretty soon whether whether he's going to have to go for one or not and I suspect that even if Boris Johnson delivers Breck's it it will be a wise move for him to go to the polls soon afterwards cross a B. By the spring or even before because he could then say I'm that M.P. He's done what I said it was going to do now let me get on and deliver for you with the majority and against Jeremy Corbyn who is struggling at the moment and low in the polls when he should be soaring high probably defeats him. So would because you've got some stories here as to policy in the head the will be announced on Monday morning with regards to the N.H.S. Will know the morgue's most Johnson is doing policy wise as to where we're headed to New both in terms of Brazil and was in terms of a general election yet because. What Boris Johnson did when he when he became prime minister cautious only a week or so. He said outside Number 10 that he was going to. Spend a lot of money on the N.H.S. And he said 20 hospitals were going to get an upgrade Well tomorrow he's going to announce that that's going to happen instantaneously Weaver we're reporting this morning that he will announce an immediate 1800000000 pound funding boost for the N.H.S. Now this is on top of the there's about 34000000000 pounds annually increase in funding promised by his trade assessor to reason may be going to rush forward this money and he's going to make it available to 20 hospitals stretching across the country from Cornwall in the Southwest to Newcastle upon Tyne in the north east and it will provide new beds cutting edge equipment and Ward improvements building reapers it will be spent on new things new. Intensive Care Units. Children's wards mental health facilities all that sort of thing so this will show that he means business when he says going to deliver he's going to live a fast Don't forget the N.H.S. Is important for a couple of reasons one part of the fact is that outside number 10 it was on the side of that both George and George in the referendum campaign which is widely criticized for that spend more money on the N.H.S. So he has to show that he really means he's going to put money. They're just and secondly doesn't. It's the big issue the Labor Party is very strong on the Tories have traditionally been strong on the economy and Tony Blair when his election in 1997 after a year has been as a power only because he proved was able to prove to the electorate that the Labor Party could handle the economy and the nation's finances well for the conservatives it's important to try and show that they can look after the N.H.S. That it's safe in their hands and most people think that it's better in Labor's hands so he has to defeat Jeremy call been on the N.H.S. I think that this announcement will show that there is possibly a with election fever in the air because why else would he be putting out what is effectively electioneering campaign giveaways at a time when we're struggling to get BRACKS It's through and in fact that the clock is ticking with an E 88 days to go and sell out how low in deadline you would is happening with Briggs. The still a talking going on promises that he's Base been around talking in token of the Union. He has told the E.U. That unless they agree to. Amend or withdraw the backstop then there's no point in him going oh it's I have talked to them they've said well the backstops that stay so there's a bit of a deadlock going on. Who will blink 1st. We've got in one of the one of our rival papers this morning at the breakfast secretary Steve Barclay is saying that it is now for the European Union to. Come forward with some kind of make some movement some offering before before the talks can proceed internally there's a little bit of a disagreement in Boris Johnson's campaign which hasn't had much publicity it is that some feel that the backstop is the thing that has to change this is they mechanism to avoid a hard border between the north of our Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic in the event of. No solution being found on how to deal with the customs the crossing of traffic and goods Joran in a customs manage. It if they if they don't budge on that he says there's no point going to some believe that if they say yes we'll talk about reopening the withdrawal agreement but we can't talk about the backstop then then he should go over there because that's a signal that the prepared to move in some areas and so it's a case of is the back is a willingness to talk enough for it does it have to beat the backstop and the fact of only so that's where we are at the moment of not diverting of the Sun on Sunday let's catch up then line stateside with Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun Times Good morning Lynn and how are you know I'm very well thank you and good says be Jews are we talking about an exe scandal in Chicago. Yes we are and this is one that is just kind of it might be a universal thing there is a big kind of label boss who bustled in on a Chicago Boogie Studio and was basically extorting them and this is the guy who basically people thought was kind of maybe up to no good but would never break and now he's cooperating with the feds what makes it a little more interesting is this is the movie studio people may not think of Chicago as a place where movies are made but they certainly are a T.V. Shows are made there in Chicago Fire Chicago P.G. Empire these are all movies simply T.V. Shows that are made in Chicago and the reallocations of this labor bosses name is John Kohli he's a Teamsters boss. Are ready are spilling over because this result of his cooperation we had another shutter all case that got a very big play in the paper a state lawmaker being what we call a ghost payroll or. Labor Union payroll so it seems that so often in these conversations we talk about either shootings or crime in Chicago this is another one so he fled the press killed these 2 extorting 325000 dollars in cash this is a guy who served ready making $385000.00 so it's it's as we say in our story it's a saurus chapter for Chicago's labor movement. On it and it also shows how this movie studio thought that they had to cooperate or they couldn't say how they couldn't produce things you know what I'm going to say you don't know it's coming from me you know I did something with show business it's something that I won't be surprised but I can't exactly protected. So hit me with it OK Well Chicago is known for. I'm not going to say OK OK OK OK let's let's put it this way organized crime is this Is there any surprise is this any surprise this kind of behavior and I apologize for being facetious do porridge I was on a serious note are people in Chicago surprised to hear about. You know some extortion coming from whichever corner actually is Chicago are they surprised. No this this one is not surprising because this is a story which is just a drama free universal story of big labor you know Teamsters going bad and I know this does just reinforce what I'm calling the stereotype and you're saying probably an urge reputation over who hires who who lobby whom everybody has some relative on the payroll and it's all you know it's just all revolving around this big time labor leader who just found that he could use his connections to milk the system and he finally got nailed for extortion So yeah in this plea agreement he also procured he to be involved in other shakedown games for the. Big guys just getting money you know vendors paid for meals at restaurants they took him to Las Vegas and fed him went to Union conventions and he I think I've changed I want to do the year it gets a big guy he's an imposing guy so I guess if you want to do you somebody's got to break perhaps you would just give it to him and then again as I take this studio crowd then they provide a big kind of American movie just come out of the empire to cause a fire and probably we need to talk about the movie industry in Chicago and some for you invest for now let me just say. Al Capone the big guys. I know you don't want to spend their future cargoes sounds on heads I didn't know. Anyone else it's me is B.B.C. Radio 5 Live it's to come good morning this is a full night of 5 Live I'm tossin at a bar and I need some 5 Live a sheet scene in Texas least 20 people dead and 26 injured.
