Up all night the tragic story of the people whose lives. Trailer. Where did their individual. Who did they trust themselves to and why did they call it was. Police have just begun the process of trying to identify those 39 bodies found in a refrigerated lorry trailer in Essex it arrived in Purfleet on the Thames from Belgium and the earlier as a Wednesday ambulance staff the sky over the bodies one of whose is a teenager just over an hour later at war certainly didn't just show Park in grays in Essex 25 year old man from Northern Ireland has been arrested on suspicion of murder our special correspondent at Thomas sent the support from Gray's the lorry and only 39 people still inside the container have been removed from this part of Gray's now and as it moved along this road here police officers bowed their heads in silence we've seen senior detectives visibly upset so what they've witnessed here today but now their focus is on getting answers who with those people on board and who put them inside that container Well a lorry tray trailer as we said it come from Saber in Belgium from where our Europe Correspondent Damian Grammaticus filed this report what we've heard is from the prosecutors here in Belgium the federal prosecutors have opened their own inquiry now they are in contact with the u.k. With police in the u.k. And they are beginning their inquiries what they say is that they do believe the truck Oh that trailer came through here what they do not know is where it originated where those people might have got on board whether that was in Belgium and how long it spent it spent in Belgium all things that they want to try to identify. Amalie Kenway is a senior advisor for the charity focus on labor exploitation aims art and trafficking for labor exploitation she told me what she thought when she 1st heard about all these deaths obviously I have the same reaction as everyone which is this is completely horrific but then because it's because my job makes me fairly familiar with this kind of incident one of the things that really struck me was everyone is obviously very shocked by this incident today but unfortunately this is one of many incidents it's just kind of more obvious because there's lots of victims in one place and that means grace in Essex but actually if we think about it migrants are dying all the time trying to reach safety just this year alone in 2019 over a 1000 migrants have drowned in the Mediterranean so the 1st thing is kind of I reckon I said unfortunately this is part of past and it's not an anomaly. And also now as you say we don't know that much about what's actually happened the assumption is that these people migrants that they are undocumented and went out to be in the u.k. Of course we have not seen how that come from assuming that the strays I mean it's most likely that they're coming from a country where there is a reason why they need to leave so critical instability or kind of danger to themselves to poverty whatever that might be and that they have paid people to move them to a country where they thought that they would be safe and they felt really taken a very long and very frightening group unfortunately most had obviously yes I do huge risk than you maybe maybe the past helps us understand this can you think of a parallel case maybe some other tie and I you know in the distant recesses of my memory I seem to remember a lot. Cases of numbers of people being fired and dead in the back of a refrigerated Laurie Yeah that was the case in 2000. I think it was 50 to 60 people actually died. In that case so it's not the 1st time it's happened and there have been one off cases as well in the last 2 years so one migrant being found I don't see this has struck everyone because it's such a high number an interesting me something people might also be familiar with is the stories we had a lot about 3 or 4 years ago the quiet few stories of young men migrants in Cali trying to jump on the back of lorries and all that to get out of the camp and reach safety and you know that's that's a very similar circumstance actually. In reality of course you know if you and I wanted to go to another country we can take safe transport you know. And these people come and so they will find you at the route they can whether that is a very dangerous boat whether that being a doctor in the back of a lorry as we've seen today and it is desperate circumstances that push them into the situation the political language here is interesting and as politicians the prime minister for example saying that traders and human beings should be hunted Dayana brought to justice. Identifying the pappa traitors of if you like us as criminals is there any. Is any other way to look at it. Well that is there is a really interesting question. We don't know much about what happened when one of the things that could have happened is a for example these people were saying I was going we would think of them as refugees and some people would think of anyone who'd helped them escape being bombed and so on. The saving that pass and so there is potentially a totally different narrative but realistically it's quite likely that that is. Profiting from moving these people in this risky way so. Are saying that quantum promise should only be used as it relates to a quantum computer being able to do something that a classical or traditional computer cannot do at all cannot do so there isn't actually a widely accepted definition of quantum supremacy yet Right exactly and there is not really a white. Problem So this is so light a land of bigger slowly because obviously is a lot going on here yeah of our 35 to 6 cubit process what's what's different about that compared to the process of there might be in your phone for example while this is a processor that is completely running on the mechanics of quantum physics as opposed to regular processors or computer chips that are running a song which are running just totally on classical computing methods. The the science or kind of the magic about quantum computing is that it can harness properties of quantum physics in which information is stored in both ones and zeros at the same time instead of an either or so Project computing is allows for the machine to be in different states at the same time which as you say is all very magical and and mambas. It was short of resorts as our goal actually devoting to this because obviously the parent company alphabet of school and so they're giving a lot of money to the project. And has anybody competing with the must be somebody up the road who's also trying to do this yes there are many many competitors in the quantum computing field yet and just know that no commercial grade scalable quantum computer has been built yet but there are many competitors including i.b.m. Including Microsoft and then there's also startups there's venture capital backed startups who have gotten a lot of venture capital funding over the past couple of years those include I on q. . And do you wave for example and they're all trying to develop the world's you know most commercial grade scalable quantum computer that can perform really important calculations and solve important problems. You know Cosco computers traditionally cannot and when the 1st special computers came along people didn't really know what the computer was going to be able to do for us Same with quantum I mean people are not talking about applications at this moment other. So people are actually talking about applications for it some of the world's largest companies are actually experimenting with early versions of quantum computers now those include full try again and j.p. Morgan and dialer basically what the promise of quantum computing involves is mostly just you know trying to find different drugs for curing cancer for example or trying to find different materials for or much more environmentally friendly and and efficient batteries for cars for example so there are actual applications but none have been sort of proven out yet because there really isn't a quantum computer that is large enough to carry out these problems but there are very important problems that these quantum computing scientists and researchers hope to solve.
