Northeast and coastal areas a top temperature of around 7 degrees Celsius b.b.c. News it's 3 minutes past 12 b.b.c. Radio crossed the song Hold. Him up. It's all of us here right it's Friday which means in the last hour we have . Looking back on the conversations you've had over the last few days some of. The programs this week. Some nice music to. Sync needs an introduction. To. The Street. Very good and guilty. I'm guilty Mr Pav just going for a sugar fix. Most of those biscuits are yeah yeah yeah even though they were best before last year I asked why they're only 21 pound of coal. For a bargain ever Yeah yeah absolutely right. Loony right it's repeating. I just need a little sugar faces always running around all this energy I'm using tonight I'm not used to it has been a stressful evening one way or another hasn't started with the printer is not working now that's you know it's not just me everyone's been you know now that's just perfect no problem. Writes No one else is I mean I have to send things straight. To minutes I was fishing around in the back about things get that paper jam out ludicrous waste of energy and then the phone stopped working and then the whole whole studio in the house studio shut down so the other studio we put to rest up just turned the lights off and shut the door I'm going to design task thing I think he will the engineers can sort that out tomorrow below is what I say never mind we're back now we are back now we're up and running and would like to look back at some of our best bits of the week on a Friday in the last hour see what's been going on now of course you've been with us the last 3 nights in 8 Monday and Tuesday Mr Russell was with us and on Monday which was well. The 1st day of the New Year credible isn't it doesn't seem like it was a G.'s ago it's gone I know it's going so quickly I was thinking this this afternoon actually I was thinking Christmas is a long long time it really does seem a long long time those headphones not work you know and I think what joy there is dried all these different better value after about the 3rd pair of trite I can hear you in one ear and these ones. Where at least you've got something we've got going To me young coming through money we've got a game equipment fire salvagers I've said this before now it's cheap it's a false economy. Fires over to be got to. Skip selfishness early on Monday we were talking about things that look simple but actually quite complicated Let me explain briefly how this came about you made things rather random a few people like to when it gets a new year take down the decorations and say right that say you know enough they can come down which is fine and one of our colleagues here was saying how she had bought a new artificial Christmas tree oh yes and she put it out it looked lovely took it down doesn't go back in the box oh no you see you buy the bags I hate you take it out you put it up you take it out it will not go back in the box so we started thinking about all the other kinds of jobs that should be really easy really quick the natural factor quite complicated. You came through some gems to marry she reckons the modern bicycle chains are quite tricky to get back on if you tried to do that you got Yeah high ballet and even a upside down you going to wind it back on carefully or it slips off a gap so this is maybe a hole in your fingers in the air. That there was that the wound there was not a catheter telling us how the box to keep laundry liquid capsules in is a nightmare to open you know that sort of proof an adult proof at the same time I have trouble as well you slave I'm surprised and then later in the evening we started Andy and he was telling us how he used to struggle with what you might call a tool of these trades one of my taxes are in 2003 long gone now and on that particular model if you want to replace the head of one side you have to remove loosen off the assisted steering reservoir unit because great low blows a screw song on the other side you have to loosen oftentimes actually take off the air inside a plastic follow what's coming for you inevitably the bulbs go at night because Coke has a like a so I'd always dreaded I'm just trying to learn a bit of money buying of all we've got now which we thought is a worse thought if it were actually there both as bad as the seller out there with the flashlight screwdrivers of the previous tax year just put your hand there and you would do it but my hands are so they want to know what hands but they just couldn't get your hands into it so both sides it's like a complete operation and inevitably clowder way clubs you know you got cuts in the hand. Allow love a covered in oil them up going in your heart lay back and then you have to go home washing has now this because of that and actually the funny thing is that on this particular car if you looked at the workshop manual you could actually say the head lamp goes live at your local Daler you know Sam Why to change the headline is ridiculous when a friend of mine's got a car and it. Just say inside the book that you can change yourself but you can't and and he goes into a deal let's get it done and when he walks in one of the mechanics comes out to get the job they say oh no not a headlight bulb even for them it's a pain because the wheel has to come off and I have to take apart the will arch to actually get to it I mean that's just crazy take us I mean also on this particular car the battery plan the bulkhead of Ok is just below where the windscreen wipers of which is covered with a crew I mean normally a battery is like one of the wings or something I had to move all the rubber surrounding the grill off and everything under the positive and negative wrestler out there you actually think if they actually built the car around the battery didn't yes it will sometimes appear that way do you think it's done on purpose so that we can do things ourselves internally 10 tools that way but the other thing is you've got to put it back Iraqi Roy otherwise it rustles So we're right and things about me leave go go down I thought it was like your blowing wind out of course I remember that but very windy. How day blowing wind on this program as you think this is that was Andy telling us how you used to struggle trying to do just a simple thing it's funny because when we were talking about these things on Monday you know little jobs that look quite simple and actually quite difficult to do it was Carson very You might call routine maintenance that cropped up quite a lot Derek from the phone he said putting a spare wheel back in the boot is never easy that's true and you may also remember that we spoke to came in saw me on Monday as well and she was telling us about a car that didn't have an ignition and the case was just something that you had to have inside the car you know these modern things and she didn't she was desperate trying to find where you put this thing and if you don't know then I suppose it's the way that it's going to be isn't it but a lot of people talking a. Out changing bulbs and we also had a couple who didn't get to Ajay in Portsmouth was talking about some bottles of tomato sauce in a little flick caps trying to get those off and then eventually you do get the thing off you've broken your now is in the process then you've got the foil underneath you go to take off so then you pull belittle lip on the saw a little tab it won't come off so you put it a bit harder the tab comes off and you went on to stab it with a knife or something like that and the Tasha from Lois said trying to sort out cables at the back of the television can be a nightmare as well something goes wrong or something needs changing so you think I just unplug this and they've got that big rats nest of cables is the engineers here call them to be sorted out they go simple jobs not so simple after all that was Monday's program or is it time to a year quarter past 12 in just a 2nd we go looking back to choose day and we reopen for the 2nd time the Paul Miller garage for 1st and terrible cars and this is when we invite you to tell us about maybe your 1st car or the car that you've owned or some stage in your life that was just the pits now I thought the my cars over the years have been bad what you came up with was just amazing we hear some of them after this and the carpenters went to be tested and that now that stop what's supposed to happen now either what is going on have to understand why it's doing this should not have played something is very very weird it's very strange let me try to make this why. Figure out where. I love the way they kept it like that it's gorgeous isn't it it's not an outtake it was they decided to leave it like it she lost when they record it she lost the chip in the melody at the end and they decided they would keep it like it was a lovely documentary by the Carpenters some years ago and Richard Carpenter was asked about that and he said well we thought it was just so funny and so different it's a nice little human. Generated lose in thought you know I don't know what that you know let's leave it like that so that's exactly what keeping with the theme of the show this evening is. We could call it that leaving the mistake to your email of mistakes in tell me about it it's 90 minutes past 12 looking back at some of the best bits of the week now on Tuesday as I said we opened the pool my garage for 1st in terrible car this will be Rob your street Mr Patz I was driving is one of your things one of my passions 3 times a week I do it for 20 minutes of a May and then have to go in for that were Petrone get someone else to do I haven't ever cry because I don't own a car and I get the rental car service because I just want to use it for dropping my son off at you know in the morning is right by my house it really convenient. But when it gets to a quarter of a tank you supposed to fill it up and I really hate for the car up with petrol is one of those things I just can't get my. Do it finally just annoying it is me out so I don't like to do it anyway in one year of doing it I haven't filled the tank up with but no one so it's not in fairness I've not run really low or anything like that I've been a good boy. Doing it if at all possible council by you know hundreds of Lamia So we opened up the garage for the 2nd time in a year we do this every 6 months or so and asked here about your dreadful cars Well we were literally full larded with cause you would imagine they were just brilliant We spoke to Emilee who had a peace agreement vox on. A saloon where the dashboard was held in place by bits of wood is not a car but as opposed to Hillary she told us the but most nights she have to drive a taxi out m.g. Home with the exhaust pipe lying on the back seat for goodness that's not getting through the less beyond the thoughts I was lucky to get from a to b. And then later in the evening a cold a lot of people reflected on we spoke to Brenda and she was telling us about the well mixed impression I think we would say that her old Morris 1000 night if you didn't hear this. Now. Cheers crashed. Listen up apartment I be Testament that it was time that I had a motor car my very own and I was sort of this car down the back of a garridge that had apparently been a writeoff and it had been repaired by tin different apprentices. It was a promise and then Brenda. It had got to the stage where it was actually m.-o. Terrible this car was actually manufactured in 1949 lives I'll let you work this out from here but it was older than I am right fair enough the smaller up there was a true Fred Flintstone car you could put your feet my father actually cut pieces of hard boards to fit over the rough to create a floor. You can see in the right in a few Wellington Oh this is fabulous absolutely love it always had indicated that he popped out the side you had inside of it to get. What color was it Brenda Everest a multitude of green. And 3 primal was a different shade of green. And they couldn't get them to match obviously they never ever got anything to match because the way it was were 40 cars. White green and green. Did you ever get anything to go I mean did it ever actually drive you anywhere believe it or believe it not Paul I drove that car for 2 years while over 25 miles the net up and down the country and it never let me down Isn't that amazing. That is incredible so not only want to thank Well old but I'm not so obviously because so many mechanics of worked at it they were able to keep them or the mechanics the engine and so on working it was just the bodywork that was the problem the mechanic workings of the thing were really good it was just quite literally the body work had been smashed up to people used to say to you I'm not getting in that when you offer them a lift or did they find it quite fun and quite quirky in a way well it was quite odd actually because every day I drove to work with a carload of people and I mean I thought well a carload of people have been with me and I'm Robert got the feeling that they were quite glad I got it and they were quite glad they news I was more reliable than the local police but. Since those conversations on Tuesday I have not criticize my car once I've spoken nicely to what I've called all sorts of nice things and you can see why there were just so many fabulous stories that came through on Monday and we spoke to people who had old cars that you know they paid 5060 quid for and everything was falling off I think the one thing that really stood out was how you used to be able to have a car going back 40 might be 30304050 years ago that was a death trap but they seem to still be legal they still went through there are no taste and so on you know I spoke at my old Mini that used to use moral than petrol I kid you not the brakes worked sometimes and when I am bad whether you are completely stuffed but anyway lovely stories as always if I go back to the programs in their entirety of course they're all there on the i Player radio. And they will be full the next 30 days Ok quite a few things happening here at the moment so I little song between now best bits give Pat a little bit of time to go and do some sourcing out so that was Tuesday Wow The song from far on a and then we're going to look at Wednesday night's program and we'll talk about going to the right place but the wrong time. For an hour waiting for a girl like you study hard past 12 from b.b.c. In the south Mr Pat is with us and we're looking back at some of our best bits of the week and on Wednesday night we were talking Mr Pat says you remember about going to the right place but the wrong time is quite a lot of it going on I suspect after people got back from yams the New Year break yeah I'm not quite sure what day of the week it was it started you remember because the choir I mean meets on a Wednesday yes and 3 of them turned up a week early. As Wednesday not being he is there and well no it's good to be early I think about a week early I think well maybe excessive banging on the dog. And it's fair to say that we discovered on Wednesday wasn't just wrong time it was sometimes wrong day and on a couple of occasions the wrong the year. We were blaming the Christmas break in the clocks came back as they do from time to time no sorts of things inaccurate train timetables everything got the blame apart from us of course however Denise's friends missed the boat by the biggest margin by more than a day a week in fact it was more than even a month Listen to this. Way that we can. Go to a concert. Right or wrong I. Hope or love me arrived at the film they were both in the right way and the right month unfortunately they were you know a year you're a complete my goodness what do you think want to have who are those wow I suppose because when you're talking of a big band or a big group like that sometimes you do book way in advance don't you you know surprise I mean they went to the concert eventually. Well funny. But that's really depressing because knowing it's a few days away or even a week or 2 is one thing but when you're all excited and looking forward to going and seeing the kinks and you couldn't wait another year I mean you have us taking the mickey out of. Denise you didn't own. Up but you've taken the mickey as well Mr Carr not your life turning up a year earlier here after after we played that on Wednesday night the minute he said you know my mum and dad did exactly the same thing they got tickets for Peter Kay at the o 2 on his last tour right. Recent misread the day on the tickets that they bought them for for the 3 months in advance they were only 16 months in advance but all the way up to London from Hampshire got to the o 2 and went oh yeah we're a year away I don't know what was on that night it was a brotherhood of man or something like that oh yeah but for me a lot went back to the hotel next day the thing is big money is next you're paying for the journey yeah the rest of it but we were lucky as well because we had the lady from Canada who emailed in and said she hadn't sorted out her. Cars but from Heathrow was an Asian American by from Canada and she's really she listened to that conversation on my ear. For the wrong Yeah so I feel like we did some good we sat holding our service and Mr Pat Well after we spoke to Denise is friends on Wednesday missing the boat big time We then spoke to other people Marion in Weymouth and she had a little problem with the train timetable I'm sure. Can empathize with you we know your love there again we've seen you with a printer and down to my studio and I never allow you in this building again I have refused to take the blame for this Actually no I think you are Blame is half of the state let's hear from Marion in wine I had a baby in the prom and it was a lovely March day and I saw a line oh we'll go on the train into a messed up way and I will come along the sea front gets a baby some fresh air. And so I was a half mile to a Play Station. And was in good time trying. To trying to come home and it didn't come and eventually a porter came up to me and he said well beside waiting for. I said well I'm waitin for the tryin to whatever it was a compliment or the time to go into blame must yes he said would you go along the way you said it done stop trying may. I mean that not only that before it was even working. I mean talk about daft going to get Mr you use the trains an awful and I do and I mean timetable sometimes easy to mistake and I think if you get into a routine and then something changes like today I'm usually very good I've got the app on my phone and it sets up for certain journeys and if the trains running light it warms me but I didn't look at it today so I sworn in for the tempest 11 to go to work log the log Adar and then you look at the board it's 30 minutes late in the yard just saying what I'm going to do for 30 minutes that happened night about 3 bags of crisps. Carry my pocket for him of course of course but it's when you change it it's not that we can service or over Christmas it was bonkers so trains running at the same times but doing different journey Yes myself going all the way around the hours it was normally a 30 minute trip take about an hour and 20 because I was going the wrong while the loop and that kind of thing but yeah I met someone who's been using the trains every day for about 6 years now and I'll get it right down his neck. That was Wednesday night's program place wrong time so if either had a similar thing happen to you do not worry you are in good company as we discovered as you've gone 25 to have the baby say in the south and after Michael Jackson we're going to be talking about commemorative items that you have collected over the years that you've actually still got. Lead. The. To. Michael Jackson got. 21 minutes to one in the south Friday night means that Mr Patz weather sound we're running through some of the best bits of the week little conversations that we've had what we're doing on Thursday Oh yes we had the roll mail and announce their latest set of Ken stamps the cost of Game of Thrones quite controversial in a way to some people saying it's too trivial. But it's a very popular show this is massive technically I think it's the most watched television program in the world and even though it's an American production it's a cable company over there it's a mostly British cast so it has all these very well loved actors in it like Charles Dance and Diana Rigg who I always loved on the Avengers when I was a kid and it's all filmed or mostly filmed in Northern Ireland as well so we kind of see it as ours even though it's an American but other people say well it's just a telly show what. We've done of the ones in the past have been Dr Who stamps and the Pooh. Potter and that kind. Of on the way yeah the talcum But Lynn chaps action clashed on a 2nd cast. Anyway so we were talking about the collectibles and keep sake items that you had invested in over the years everything from Smurfs bits serve pottery that people didn't realise were quite valuable and when he sees we now this turned into a major thing it did then they the lady who called up. So the little pottery porcelain animals that you could collect in there begin the fifty's and sixty's here to make them in Staffordshire known for all its pottery and she said she'd got about about what it was and it was a Scottie dog a Persian cat and a couple of ducklings I think it was we looked them up online and 107 of these things to collect Yeah if you've got them or that worth a bit of money could they get $8.00 or 9 quid each on e Bay but a woman rang up and said she used to keep hers on the palm it at the top of the yes I get it. But nice imagine that you come in after a couple of drinks on a Friday night yeah you turn on the light in the living room and there's a Scot you dog and you work from the top of the curb and well you never turn one you know certainly what you certainly would serve all sorts of things we had to coins from petrol station pick shaped piggy banks from a certain high street bank tiny portion animals that we mentioned as well and then we spoke to Wendy Now this was interesting because this was quite bizarre with what the product was and the company that we're giving them or giving them away Wendy was telling us about some tokens for cereal packets Ok so just imagine this is cereal company cereal packets What do you think you would use the coupons for well my date was it was daft toys and that kind of thing things they would use in promotion Yeah on the telly advert he would win like transfers and you know be a tie in with a film or some of us would be a Superman book or something or something like that yeah no no this was a serial for asking you to take the tokens to get a canteen of cutlery. It's amazing to me still 3040 years on that's actually something useful you exactly a few people phone through and so they still had theirs were using them for days and holidays it was incredible isn't it yeah still going I think you know they did that with everything if it if I eat enough conflicts could I get a microwave oven for example if a lot of tokens have to be from the big bag I just think you know if it was some packet of crisps you could probably get a Lamborghini could one of our the long time ago let's be honest you don't believe . How. Close. Let's hear from when Joe this amazing story started collecting it when we got engaged and it was turned up to be all right to matter which cereal it was but you got more tokens the bigger the packet of course to make you buy them wasn't it yes so I got friends and family relations and all sorts of people saving the tokens for me and said I have so many tokens for each piece like no I was so many tokens it's . Quite a lot but in the end I managed to collect $68.00 pieces Well I come oh I can't remember how much it cost me at the time because it was going back about 1960 and we got my do 962 so that got them in good condition and when friends or family came come for dinner then they will put to why in the canteen so they keep nicely. With my 55 years so they're about. 5758 years old taking charge never heard of this before it was not unusual to imagine to to to to get caught very What was it at the time on usual. Well to be honest so do you really remember this this one time that I actually did it and that the handles are actually actually a silver why I actually saw the handles and they guaranteed it for 10 years and as a site you could have your initial put on it so we had our initial put on it and when we showed our shared mother in law she said Oh it's very nice but it says Do you have to have k. For catalogues Oh you joke. Not. What I was certain I think it's oh oh she said I mean it was something really nice and she thought it was catalogues. Dearie May Well I think so anyway then it took a lot of tokens on my head but it was worth it was worth it yes because last time a friend of mine who worked in a place that sold cut or in China stuff and she had a look at it and this is about 5020 years ago and she reckoned it was worth about 300 pounds then wow a so wow a is quite a nice collection I didn't realise and it could be very very rare I've never heard of that before now and it's a very nice design it's quite it's quite plain many is sort of sophisticated so it is very nice. Oh tough so that it actually silver plated handles and that. Extras Well it's interesting how a serial company did something like that you know it's intriguing it's not really. Because I've got so many Titans in the end they're actually ordered extra for instance we don't have 60 I have got 12 so that's how come it makes up the $68.00 pieces and I thought extra. Things bones and that's as well with everyone having a big party when away to come to get the the cut rate out way we certainly do everyone all around Wendy's around Wendy's get the pasteboards out of power say. Pasteboards common I suppose but you know I gotta go see people somewhere that was our conversation on Thursday night and it was amazing how many things people had as I always say go back to the program and its entirety on the i Player radio app but some of the things that people are collected over the years and a lot of these things were produced you know millions of the mass produced if you like but as the years have gone by people throwing them away people have lost them they've be broken and destroyed and goodness knows what else so as the years go by you end up with fewer and fewer of them so they actually have these things he's he's really quite nice and how very rewarding is it when you look online and you find they are selling for quite large sums of money doing everything but a lot of things absolutely brilliant some really nice conversations that as indeed there were throughout the week so thank you very much indeed for being part of our best bits Next Friday we'll be looking back at our best bits again Ok and fingers crossed the next Friday isn't quite as adventurous as it was tonight hopefully not thanks to Mr Paget has been studying the Save me in trying to get everything sorted out with the engineers and so I think we're organized now and with a bit of luck we should make it through to 1 o'clock without too many problems fingers crossed Ok George Benson to do a little song Ok do you stuff. Them 1st car it was an old Renault 5 and had one wheel that was a different size to the rest I kid you not I don't know quiets the origin of this extra wheel but one of the way it was clearly had been put on at a later stage and it was slightly smaller than the others and when you drove behind it you could see quite clearly that it was a different size it looked very very strange he had used to drive slightly lopsided as well I think it was probably like a crab and I use that car for nearly 4 years and it always passed it's m.o.t.d. The other strange thing about it was that he used to use oil as that was going out of fashion and he also a few other problems as well you couldn't go out in the bad weather because the heater didn't. Even though I was always told by a friend of mine it was probably something simple like so simple like an airlock and we had a hole in the floor but why on earth these cars used to past used to pass the m o t s I do not know I thought your comments were very appropriate. It's true isn't it when going back to the old bangers the old knackered cars they they didn't used to get through the m o t's maybe m o t's were very straight forward. And you do you know there were certain things that didn't have to you know didn't have to be right or certain things that you could you could get away with I mean my old Mini I mean the brakes were useless I absolutely use it would stop it but you had to really think about it in Give yourself plenty of time you know to stop like Warhol finance. go there I mean taking down my Christmas decorations and realize that I now fit into the category of people trying to do something that should be straight forward and isn't I can get my decorations back in the box to Japan about that little bit earlier on he was one of the things that prompts us to talk about it the other night was people who had bought some Christmas decorations but it was a new tree and an artificial tree and you get out the box and you put the tree Arpanet looks fabulous then you take it down again after Christmas and they operate back in the box you know keep it nice and safe and secure put back in the cupboard or the loft wherever it's going and it won't go back in she said so I'm afraid I've had to put lots and lots of string round it and it's looking rather bold bursts I'll just shove in a bag and stick in the loft that will be battle be fine until next year how the Craig in Southampton will say hello to everyone who's working tonight on security nice to hear from you Craig thanks for that and also to or to Paul as well who is driving around she said I'm one of those people who drives around in those large articulated lorries that are red and full of passengers yet we know the one Can you say hi to my friend Nick police who I've recently introduced your program and he's enjoying it very much but he doesn't want to admit it to his other so he's another front washing up at each other friends that he's listening to this program is top quality stuff you don't get stuff like this anywhere else you know and we thank so much indeed for getting in touch be safe on those roads if you're out and about tonight and take good care. So if you're doing over the weekend whether you are taken down decoration you are just going to be taking it easy chilling out desperately trying to get back in those trousers that shrunk strangely over the Christmas and New Year period enjoy Take it easy or are you one of the people I was talking to a little earlier on today a friend of mine who said he should of course I looked online state my bank statement I stole yet he's not looking good it's been Christmas and New Year kind of thing he said I don't think I'll be going out now until about March so. I say well you only live once and you can't take it with you so there's always a positive spin on these things so whatever you're doing don't work too hard don't worry about things and we sure will reconvene of course on Monday I would do it all over again with Mr Russell's back with us on Monday of course we start proceedings where in the world another week of the bag could we just leave the back of your requests after midnight. And that is just the beginning of the funding never know what's going to happen thank you again to Mr Pat He's been looking after things the last few nights specially for tonight. Have a great one or see on Monday for now though for myself Paul Miller from the bag Mr Patterson everyone else is buys you by for now and I'll leave in the cable hands of our colleagues of b.b.c. Radio 5 live healthy people.
