Trains all of the Army's interim men and for the 1st time mental resilience training has become a formal part of the program emotional control techniques positive thinking skills and anxiety regulation and now taught alongside traditional physical and technical components. More about the power of positive imagery as a coping mechanism. Responding affectively to stress recruits hearing Catterick being taught skills to better perform under pressure there is a lot of evidence. Training and in the health care injury in clinical provisioning in mental health services in business. Translating that training to the nurture of the intensity of the combat infantryman course and the anxiety it creates is similar to that of many elite level sport now the mental resilience team and the i.t.c. Are delivering training to enhance performance in adverse conditions. Captain Duncombe precious is the only serving clinical psychologist in the British army a boy. Who has knowledge of themselves and the way the brain of water works and how to operate on the 1st conditions they are going for about. The program begins with an overarching psychological skill goal setting color sergeant Austin Lindsey he's a master coach working with 2 i.t. Be. How they're going to go about doing something to achieve the goal and look in depth at the process this focuses their concentration on exactly what they need to do and hard to do it to achieve their outcome a mains in a demanding situation the soldier can keep a level head but I do not it takes the thought process away from I can't do this I'm not going to be able to do this I'm going to feel. So the change the thought process and to relevant way and think and I don't away from the bad thoughts to prevent any negative thoughts taking over mental rehearsal is used to reinforce a positive outcome this virtualization exercise involves mentally running through a task step by step it works particularly well with the weapons handling test so it's like doing it in real time so you don't want to before you're ready to it should comes the students down before the even go and do it so it increases their performance they all. Go in the train a z m a 60 foot high aerial obstacle course these new mental resilience skills are put to the test it's a chance to see how effective they really are especially with the leaps from flimsy platforms and a precarious walk along a thin beam in store for each individual so they can mentally rehearse what they're going to do they can focus exactly what they're going to do or how they're going to do it or they can be positive so they can practice the positive thinking skills which all takes away the negative the can't do it are made for made. Both Corporal Michael bolt and Sergeant James. Are able to control their feet to the. Point. Across the bars. And the program will be rolled out across the entire British Army. Slash. Totally connected life from British forces Germany. Let me if you will the campaign this family is the opportunity to send messages of videos and photos of ones asserting that I have either on deployments all just walking away from hard questions various. Well for the communications chief explain more about this service Judith like information's always been shed be it boy telephone or letters or email but now with the advent of social media we spread that even further now so by using the kind of hash tag the wife side of things we're very much caught up in the social media platforms all our families are using is actually in a twitter size of something different you know the actual site where actually using is Tumblr which allows us to use not silently written information like normal posts we can include video content and photographs as well and although we use Tumblr as a basis a lot of the information does come in for primarily Facebook and the forums on the roll Navy websites as well so he just looking for messages from families to people that are deployed it could be a message to to anybody be they work in a galley in one of the naval bases over the Christmas period a could be an individual his own security choose maybe no way for the whole Christmas period but maybe their wife in that special day and a wife and their loved ones and their children as well if somebody lease a message is it a case of the person that received the message just accesses and then read the message ole watch the video Yeah what happens is the ships will be a minute away and they're actually go online when they can get connectivity of course and they will actually view the images or the videos if for whatever reason that there may be ships or units the converse a very thin and we package them up and send them out as well but all the the usual social media channels will share all this information with the ships and the units so for anyone listening who would like to send a message why would they go by this guy to the room i.v. Website which is w w w dot ro navy don't you k. And forward slash you with the waves and all the details and the instructions are there and if you should get stuff and need some advice you can always ask for extra help as well along the way for those that want to send photographs of you any particular rules yes away. That there are specific safeguards that you can put into place to keep yourself and your family and your loved ones. We do is advise you to go to the gov The u.k. Website and follow the Think Before You. If there's any imagery that's on there just make sure that if there are pictures of children they're easily identifiable to your the actual parent or the Guardian so effectively you're given the permission to use those images on social media so if you the waves campaign just a seasonal thing or something that runs throughout the area that you will the why specifically is toyed around the festive season in so much as the whole. Social media and the online presence uses the hash tag the wives to refrain from the very popular advent calendar which is full of video content and also picks it up as well it's a kind of anything to do with the Navy over the Christmas period they've included the. Throughout the rest of the year the focus is very much on their own eye before that and that's to and fro information from ships and units to the loved ones left behind and also to use social media as well because that's where we found the majority of families. So after Christmas is just a case of going on the Web site again if they want to get in touch with their loved ones Yeah again if people do want to get in touch with loved ones well there are a way there's always the forums.
