Political leaders in Catalonia compared the Spanish government to the former dictator General Franco after Madrid announced it would impose direct control over the region Spain's prime ministers are the measure was needed because the Catalan authorities had broken the law with a legal independence referendum the B.B.C.'s correspondent Tom Barrett is following events in Barcelona I think the most interesting thing will be how the Spanish intervention here in Catalonia plays out on the ground Kaplan officials say their bosses will keep going to work until they are physically prevented from doing so now the Spanish government argues that it won't actually be suspending capital and autonomy because the institutions themselves will remain but the fact is it will be taking control the suicide attack in the Afghan capital Kabul has killed at least 15 military cadets the Defense Ministry said the attacker targeted a bus carrying the cadets outside the military academy Britain to suspend 10000000 pounds helping to clear landmines and restore hospitals in the Syrian city of Raka after it was retaken from Islamic state it will also from relief goods including cooking equipment blankets and water purifying tablets the shadowy bricks and Secretary secure Starmer has warm with unless the government changes the e.u. Unloving the fact they're doing this stuff with the creaminess d.n.c. And do you think I'm sexy forces radiate b.s. B.s. With me Vickie Tanna the bestselling author Damian Lewis has just written a new pick S.E.'s ghost patrol already has Richard Hatch him space him at that incredible true story he uncovered a bound ultra secret fighting unit that posed as Nazi stormtroopers to seize the German help port city of to broke in the ph in World War 2 It starts with Damien talking about how we actually go into writing and 20 years is a kind of reporting from all of usual nasty places you can imagine circus Africa Middle East South America and then I had to have a year off because I go very badly injured and during that year was approached by a publisher and asked to write a book an international bestseller in the u.s. That was reason to go to the rest is history I feel bad saying that you turned them out because it sounds like the qualities they have of the Course he's fantastic in your own cover incredible stories just give us to fly out the story in this new journey to the story was was was fantastic after after university I did an expedition across the horror drove there was a lot yes support your graphics society supported expedition and in the process of that we came across want to be from the 2nd World War. Wow slowing in the middle of our test you know cheap tsunami and all I kind of stuff and it got me fascinated in the theater of war and then I researched it my find out the longest ever overland special forces mission was a mission in 1902 to rate the field in Libya and it was like $1000.00 a 100 miles for the desert just to get behind other designs just to get there and then launch the attack so searching writing that story and then in the process of doing that I dug the files for the National Archives and I suddenly realized that that mission was part of a. Missions that night in which they go through the enemy lines using this deception force who was set up deliberately to pose as German soldiers to bluff their way through the enemy lines and that is incredible you found out while you were doing your research in this story basically hadn't been told and say you want to develop in. There when you when you do things that they see it as I think why is no one done this before now with this story in particular I was absolutely Words fail me and they fell be and they deny and actually in the process of getting of researching we go to File Open and that is actually officially closed until 2064 Wow So these World War 2 files that usually closed under a 45 year old a 70 year old or 100 year rule this one was closed under Well more than 100 year old actually And so we are and in that far when there was all this information about this this this unit and what was tossed today can I just say we need to explain. The long range desecrate yes and no say just tell us about the sig we're Ok. With long range desecrate who were the guys who basically only did the s.s. Through the desert on their rights Ok And the sake of the special interrogation group that was the cover name for this unit set up to train these German soldiers so they actually looked and acted the marched and sang like German soldiers to see . Mn to where German uniforms to use German weaponry and to drive German vehicles through the lines and the sick was a cover name they were there to take allied special forces through the lines wreak havoc but there's some really strong characters in there was wrong that it would give us a glimpse of the main protagonists. First this Henry said so he said he was a member of the assassin's fencing club he captured in early 1902 he escapes from German captivity by taking a dead German officers uniform dressing in that stealing a truck and he bluffs his way kilometers of any territory and gets back to British lines and it's he's experienced doing that makes him think if we can get out we can pull off a white that can again with a much larger force using Sinan mean so he's the key. Sets up the say and then he joins forces with a guy cooled that on a kill Hazelton was known as the Lawrence of World War 2 This was a guy he was bought up in Egypt his family had been there for generations his mother was attorney and he was British so he had sort of thought good looks he could pass as an Arab and he speciality was going to $800.00 lines only dressed in Arab ropes posing as a local to gather intelligence on German Italian positions that's just 2 of them I mean that's going to film. Him very he gave speaking. About his new n.c.s. Case to story. On the radio. But that was so much fun. I. Was. Told. That. The. Figure was. Cut on the.
