Desperately ill. They required emergency medication for him. Seems like all of the events, all of those super spreader type of events had a direct impact. Absolutely, wolf. And that is why it is so baffling that the white house would continue to hold events with large number of people at the white house on Election Night or other occasions. At the rose garden for for example. As the president had such a difficult moment with the virus. Beyond that, the Campaign Events that i attended, many of them there with thousands of people not Wearing Masks or social distancing. It truly is baffling that the white house has handled the coronavirus the way that it has. And even if donald trump jr. , as it says in the statement is asymptomatic. And fortunately he does not deal with the awful ramifications of the virus. Just the fact he has it and could spread it to other people, whether young or old that have preexisting conditions that make them more susceptible to the horrible things the virus can do with the body. As you know, wolf, we dont know that much about the longterm effects of the virus. Seeing the white house having handled the virus this way from the beginning with the president spreading misinformation, admittedly trying to play down as he told bob woodward in a number of interviews, it is truly baffling and infuriating, especially as we get into the winter months and we watch the epidemic spread further and further, surging across so many states and across the country. Since march we have been reminded that people do recover from this. A large percentage not much in the way of symptoms. Sounds like that is the case with him as well. As you were bringing up with boris sanchez, you dont want to get the infection. You dont want it. Nothing that anybody said or has to say i am okay to get this and i will just power through it. That is not a good strategy. It behaves differently in different people and these long hauling symptoms are of concern. I thought they would be more likely to occur in people that had serious disease. As we are learning, even people who have minimal symptoms still can have persistent symptoms. I wish him well, and i am glad that it sounds like from the reporting that he is abiding by the isolation guidelines. When you have the infection, you isolate. If you are suspected of having the infection, for a moment. I know people that had covid19. They tested positive. Young people in their 40s or 50s who months later still have ramifications and still have an impact. They are not exercising. Some of them complain about memory fog. This is a respiratory virus, you think about a respiratory virus. Respiratory system, the lungs. This is an unusual virus. It does seem to effect every organ system in the body. We dont know how long the long haul symptoms will last. The only way to know that is with the passage of time. You go back and look at the early data out of wuhan. I was struck by the stories of what you are talking about, people that were young, otherwise healthy, maybe even runners or athletes who say they would have trouble, you know, being able to walk a few blocks i hope he does not have any of the stuff. The point is that you dont want this. You dont want it. We are still learning so much about the virus, the way to immunize yourself is not to get it. It is to ultimately get the vaccine which is looming on the horizon with all of the good news we have been talking about the past few days. Ben carson. Secretary carson received antibodies. The law states when the secretary of the state certifies the election, the governor appoints the electors. That is the law. We will follow the law. He said that yesterday. I think the president s attempt here will fail. But it is insulting. It is disturbing. I think it is a constitutional crime. Biden carried pennsylvania by more than 80,000 votes, double what trump carried pennsylvania four years ago. It is not easy to reverse 80,000 plus votes. Republican lawmakers were at the white house today for a meeting. The timing certainly raises a lot of suspicions about what is going on behind the scenes. Give us your sense of how significant is this step and what does it mean in terms of timing for the American Public . Well, this is really very encouraging. The data that has come out from pfizer, which we have only seen in press releases is better than us expected, more than 90 effectiveness. Effective in older people and in severe illness. But it is not just around the corner. A vaccine roll out is a long time. Early in this year, wolf, they were saying operation warp speed they were hoping for 300 million doses at the end of the year. Now they are saying 45 million. 45 million is fantastic and a great result but far short of what we are going to need for overall protection. What we hope will happen is that the data will be verified to be accurate, safe, effective and we will roll out vaccination to the highest risk groups first, Health Workers and staff of Nursing Homes and residents of Nursing Homes, Health Care Workers and atrisk people. This is crucialally important. That is up to the Cdc Advisory Committee which will meet after the fda meets. A lot of people are skeptical. How do you convince those in the American Public, millions of them saying i am going to wait. I do not trust this yet. What do you say . I think that you have to be perfectly open and honest. Yes, this is a new vaccine. We have not used it before. It appears to be highly effective. It does not appear to have shortterm adverse events. 40,000 people participated in the trials. When we give it to millions of people we could fwiend a problem and we will look hard for it and share it openly. Trust has to be rebuilt. It has been broken by the approach to the pandemic so far. But being in this together and understanding the more that we Work Together and the more we wear masks the safer that we are. The more of us that get vaccinated, the safer we will be. They say they have not been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in michigan. They are vowing to follow the law and the normal process regarding michigans electors. Lets discuss with the secretary of state for michigan. Secretary benson, biden carried your state by 154,187 votes. We are not talking about 500 or 1,000 or 5,000. We are talking 154,000 votes. This joint statement from the leaders that met with the president at the white house give you confidence that the Republican Leadership in michigan will respect the will of the michigan voters . It certainly does, wolf. I think it is very clear that the people of michigan have spoken. There has been no legal or factual basis to any way question the choice they have made. The margin is quite clear, not just in that race but the senate and several others as well. Just as we have expected every county certification, we expect the state board of canvassers to do it as well and everyone in position of authority to follow the law with respect to the will of the voters. The legislatures that met with the president. Michigans certification process should be a deliberate process free from threats and intimidation. How do you interpret that . I would say that is an accurate statement of the certification canvassing process that has been going on since the polls closed on november 3rd. What happens is that every county does a canvas and certifies the canvas. That has since happened and the state board makes the results official. So the canvas is a thorough deliberative process, and there has been so much scrutiny on the election in michigan and many other states as well. Certainly the fact that there are no irregularities, no widespread fraud that has emerged in any fashion throughout the canvas and throughout the very clear process that we had the last two weeks. It speaks volumes. I expect when they meet on monday to finalize and to make official the results of michigans election to move forward. It is only a little while. But have you had a chance to speak with the two republican lawmakers since they met with the president . I have not. But i have said repeatedly, i know both gentlemen and many of the other lawmakers there today. They believe in the rule of law. I assume they said it publicly throughout the process they will follow it and respect the will of the voters. We have seen nothing that should cause us to doubt that. And again, we have a clear statement from the voters through the vote count that has been tabulated. I think we can move forward. I am hopeful that we can and then begin the process after the canvas is certified honoring the state election and improving michigan across the aisle. Given the president s efforts to try to overturn the Election Results in michigan, wild accusations made by Rudy Giuliani and his legal colleagues alleging widespread massive fraud in michigan. Totally without any foundation at all. Was it a mistake, you believe, for the two republican lawmakers to agree to come to washington, go to the oval office for the meeting with the president . I am not going to question their motivation or what went into the decision and all of that. I will say we have two distinct things happened. We have the facts and the law and the voters. The other side we have a pr campaign designed to consistently erode voters faith in the election and the integrity and the accuracy of the results. And so i do think that any elected official that does anything that departs from the fact of the truth and tries to weigh in a more political agenda, that is an unfortunate tactic for anyone to take, that is something that i would say is ill advised. But that said, as long as we continue to move forward collectively in the state with our leaders focusing on facts and data and the will and the voice of the voters, i believe we will be in a good place for our democracy and ultimately get to a place where we can frankly celebrate the successful election that we were able to have here in michigan with recordbreaking turn out and no irregularities. A lot of those questions circulating, tonight, wolf, and no easy answers to them. What many observers do believe, though, is this a very different man from the oncerising republican star, who once had an incredible shot at the presidency. A News Conference that was laced with falsehoods and conspiracy theories. President trumps personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and his legal team made bogus claims about fraudulent votes and corrupt vote counting in states that trump lost. If you count the lawful votes, trump won wisconsin by a good margin. Indeed, if you count the lawful votes in pennsylvania, he won by about 300,000 votes. Reporter black liquid streamed down giulianis face, at one point. It was an event that the daily beast called unhinged. The New York Times called it rambling. A Washington Post headline said it was part of giulianis postelection meltdown. The techniques for this alleged fraud were exported from china and venezuela, claims which have no merit. For some who have worked with giuliani, it was an unfortunate spectacle. It saddens me every time i see him because i know i know what a you know, what a strong and confident and Competent Person he was when i was working for him. Fbi investigators have asked at least one witness about possible origins of some of the material used and possible connections to russian intelligence. For some, its a far cry from the nononsense, hardcharging prosecutor who, as a u. S. Attorney in manhattan in the 1980s, famously took on the five heads of the new york crime families. He did some serious damage to the mob. He was targeted for assassination. He had a security detail with him. He went after wall street titans, took them down. He was fearless.
