They said the city was prepared and working with federal state and local partners to ensure traffic would not be fully disrupted by the proceedings. We wanted to assure the public that weve already begun preparations for the event tomorrow. Were joined here by the chief of police, chief morale us. Who has will talk about what our plan for security is for tomorrow. To make sure that everyone has a right to peacefully express themselves and exercise their constitutional rights. And obviously do it in a peaceful manner. In our city, we obviously believe in the constitution, believe that people should have the right to express themselves but we also believe in law and order. We know that we hope that tomorrow will be peaceful. We encourage people to be peaceful in demonstrating how they feel. And were gonna have the adequate force is necessary to ensure that. There may be depending on the crowd size some road closures so people who live in the downtown area should expect additional traffic. Should prepare for that. Its not in our initial plan. Were gonna take a step by step. All of the chief explain how he will make that determination as to what roads are closed how theyre closed when theyre closed. The commuters should expect to the possibility of some disruption. We are prepared for a variety of different sized crowds. Obviously crowd size depends on a variety of issues including but not limited to the weather. We have the ability to increase our capacity if necessary. Our fire department. Fire chief i spoke to him right before this press conference. He has assured me also that there will be an increased fire rescue level of preparedness. Including ems services and he would consider a number of onduty personnel that are both at the task in command letter. Were happy to be joined by our partners from miami county. Our Law Enforcement partners at all levels to make sure were communicating. Make sure were prepare. To make sure were sharing information. Ultimately to ensure that tomorrow goes off without a hitch. Since the moment the announcement was made, we have been planning and preparing to ensure the city of miami is safe and secure. I can assure all our residents, our stakeholders and the visitors in the city at this time. That we are working very closely with our federal state and local partners to make sure we have a comprehensive approach that is going to ensure we maintain not only peace and order like the mayor said. But that everyone has the right to express themselves and are the First Amendment rights. As you mentioned before, were gonna be using a unified command approach. Meaning that all individuals that are able to make any type of significant decision that impacts the deployment of resources or the shifting of strategies and things were gonna be using to keep the city safe will be in the same room altogether. We will be conducting layered approach. At the beginning, depending on the crowd, size will determine what street closures are necessary. What we dont want is to inconvenience anyone. It make no mistake about it, were taking this event extremely seriously. We know that there is a potential of things taking a turn for the worse. Thats not the miami way. Plenty of experience, not only working with the others. We have extremely high confidence of the residents of the folks that live here in miami. They are used to demonstrating their. Used to exercising their first women rights. Theyre incredibly respectful and supportive of Law Enforcement here. Even though were preparing, were bringing enough resources to handle a crowd anywhere from 5000 50,000. We dont expect any issues. We appreciate the publics help. Everybody go out there and express themselves in a peaceful and civil matter. As for as any other details, any other closures or any incidents that might be of interest to the press or the public. We would be letting those out as time necessitates. Thats as much as we want to discuss right. Now i want to share the city. We are ready and ready for it to be over and done. Weve been hearing in the building around that area a concern there the perimeter that people can just freely come and go. There is no tape right now thats in place. Will that change because there is a lot of concern people may try to storm the building and try to enter that area. Are you gonna block of that area . Reach back to the folks out of reach out for you and tell them theres no reason to fear. How can you say theres nothing to fear . Were ready for it. Guys, can we get one at a time . How can you say theres nothing to fear more prepared, we have experience and entering handling demonstrations. This is the city of miami. As traffic becomes backed up or if we have an abundance of folks that necessitates them to occupy space industries, will make those decisions as the pc c or the Police Command center. I think we were a model for how to deal with those protests in the country. Well have the right resources in place to make sure there are no incidents. Are we strike about anything . I think the chief has been clear. I think the chief has been clear that were taking this very seriously. That we are prepared for what we have tomorrow. As hes indicated, we have a lot of experience in protest of this magnitude. Like i, said the george floyd protests. Its a multi day protests. Multi week protest, frankly. Thankfully, there were not many incidents. We had a lot of resources at our disposal that unique allowed us to manage things without hurting anyone. And without the unnecessary large numbers of arrests. I thought we handled it very well. We did things not to create unnecessary confrontations. We gave people a space to express themselves without unnecessarily creating confrontations. In that moment, that particular case, we have a curfew we implemented. We had a variety of different resources that we use that i thought were different in america.
