nation's wealth in our history. happened this week. final regulation, happened yesterday, unprecedented assault on the economy, our ability to do business and honesty, the republic as we know it. when combined with his other supposed legislative achievements, oh, it should be really good. really good. it's on a scale never before seen. this is big brother. oh, stop it, glenn, you're just fear mongering again. wall street needed to be reformed! yes. yes. yes, sure it did. among other things. it did. but big brother is watching you now. oh, am i scaring you? could we -- tiffany, could we put up something happy, because people don't like it when the eyes are watching you. there. does that make it happier? yeah. there we go. now you feel better. look for the eyes in the sunflowers. because they're there. let me ask you a question. and ask the flowers behind me. this happy, happy bill, it's going to create a protective class of arbitrarily selected companies that are too big to fail. how is that going to solve anything? how is creating a special path for financial institutions that fail punish wall street? how can an institutionalizing of bail-outs mean that we'll have no more bail-outs? they've written down how to do it now. why do you need 2300 pages to say you are no longer going to reward failure? shouldn't we just say you are on your own, jack. we don't have to write that one down. how does this make you feel better? really? is it the sunflowers that makes you feel better? it doesn't make you feel better. it's an illusion. it's pictures that look like something but they're not. remember the eyes? this is an illusion. this is magic. there ain't nothing there, jack. there's nothing there. what is behind the screen? oh, i don't know. i don't know. luckily for you, it's the old set. what is behind the screen of this bill? uh-oh. trouble. continue to ask the questions. how does punishing lenders for irresponsible lending make it easier for the everyday american to access cash when they need it. how does a government that is 15 digits in debt create an office of financial literacy with a straight face. how does a government with 75,000 pages of tax code that applies to every individual successfully work? with other regulators, to induce undue regulatory burden. that's what it says there. they're going to reduce it. this is what they have. washington, call me! mr. president, call me. if i have this wrong. what this bill does is it says there is too many government regulators and regulations. so, to solve it, we're going to add more government regulators and regulations. equals less regulators and regulations. this doesn't make any sense! it doesn't make any sense. you know i've seen this pattern before. yes! george orwell. remember him? george orwell. "1984." they strapped a bird cage -- i mean a rat cage on the face of the main character and said two plus two equals five. "no it doesn't." two plus two equals five. "no, it doesn't." then they let the rat tear at his face. it was great. until he said, "two plus two equals five." gang, big brother is here! how does a guy who can't figure out how to pay his own damn taxes and has been involved in every step of the financial collapse, tim geithner, head something called the financial stability oversight council? how do we give him the power to seize any financial firm that he finds in danger of default? is this a constitutional republic anymore? how do we expect him to protect us from the potential threats to the over financial system? when we are constantly being injured by congress, how can we seriously, seriously look at a bureau of consumer financial protection created by congress? how can a bill that just creates a panel that makes recommendations to an outside body like the fed, that they're not required to follow be taken seriously? how can this bill be taken seriously when it does nothing to touch fannie and freddie? you remember countrywide? yeah, evil. right? making crazy loans to boarers who couldn't -- borrowers who couldn't handle them. remember that? 90% of the loans originated by countrywide were sold to fannie mae and genernie mae. without them, there would be no economic collapse or weird shady loans going to people like chris dodd. speaking of countrywide, how can a bill written by chris dodd and barney frank possibly solve anything when they were right in there, real important. right there with the collapse at every level in the first place. isn't this a little like asking mel gibson to write your company's rules on anger management and racial tolerance? how can we stand by and accept as financial regulation a bill that creates a cottage industry for lawyers by making it easier for lawyers to sue? how is this helping us? how does the fed, which helped cause the crisis, we can't open up any of their books get rewarded with more power? how does the treasury which helped bail every single person out of the crisis get rewarded with more power as well? how does the s.e.c. which missed the credit ratings fiasco get rewarded with more power because they missed it? how can, how can we be told that there are no bail-outs in this bill when they are throwing $1 billion to states to rehabilitate individual houses or stop crime? or another $1 billion thrown at people who lose their jobs in the bill. this is not about a bail-out. really? how does creating a massive government bureaucracy with the power to watch your bank account and track every credit card account over your shoulder help your economic liberty? oh, 2 plus 2 equals 5 said winston. big brother is watching your credit card now. how does charging billions of dollars in new fees on banks help an industry that has already been devastated? how does we pass a law that passes the buck from lawmakers to pointed bureaucrats? do you have this? no longer does congress oversove oversee these things. appointed bureaucrats decide how financial regulation is implemented. nothing i just said -- it's all in this bill, but it's kind of hazy, the new czars will come in and they'll define it. it takes 2300 pages just to outline the different groups of people who can later come and figure this out! what is wrong with us, america? one tip from congress is to add on layers and layers of paperwork to any business transaction that exceeds $600. what exactly does that have to do with healthcare, mr. president? tell me. help me out here. i guess it could get more people heart attacks so you could open up a few beds because we're going to start rationing. not my words, your administrator's words. but i'm speculating. i have no idea why that could be in the healthcare bill, but it is. one of the highest profile targets of this bizarre regulation is the gold industry. aka, your pathway to acquire anything of value as they filet our currency. when you talk about the evil practice of purchasing valuable metals by choice, you have to talk about weiners. the biggest weiner i know is congressman anthony weiner is always on the job to make sure that you don't mistakenly spend your money the way you want to. because you might be stupid. a non-story of all non-stories, abc interviewed weiner about gold line. full disclosure here, it is a company that i proudly have as a sponsor of my radio show, and among other companies runs commercials on this network and many, many others. weiner's ridiculous claim was that gold line was trying to create fear. claiming the government has confiscating gold in the past in tough economic times. here is captain weiner, himself. >> it is absolutely not true that the government has any power to come confiscate your gold or confiscate your currency. but that fear is profound. >> glenn: absolutely untrue! by the way, my apologies, i was told in my ear piece he's not a captain. he's a congressman. of all the weiner clan. here it is. weiner, as he tends to do, isn't telling you the truth. let's start with the past. this is fdr and his work in the appropriately titled "act to provide relief in the existing national emergency in banking, and for other purposes." i love that. government was so much better when they just told you the truth. hey, here is a bill. we're going to screw you. here we are, we're talking about the president, taking your gold for a banking crisis or other purposes. quoting here, all persons are hereby required to deliver honor by may 1, 1933, to a federal reserve bank, all gold coin, gold bullion, gold certificates now owned by them or coming in to ownership on or before april 28, 1933. wow! seems pretty ambiguous, i know. i can't figure that one out. maybe captain weiner will fly in with his cape. captain weiner here to save you! there are a couple of exceptions. small amount for gold or art, collectibles or mining. but what about, you know, a new gold coin that you might come in possession of? any person becoming the owner of any gold coin, bullion or gold certificate after april 28 shall within three days after receipt thereof deliver the same in the same manner described in section two. so you have three whole days to turn it over before you violate the presidential orders. that's great! but what could they possibly do to you if you were caught with a gold coin? nothing serious, right, captain weiner? whoever willfully violates provision of the executive ord toer may be fined not more than $10,000. if a natural person may be imprisoned for not more than ten years or both. wow! ten years, 10k! and you thought they were serious! by the way, $10,000 in 1933 is over $167,000 in today's money. this was all done essentially with a flick of the wrist of the president of the united states. perhaps weiner had a brain aneurysm and there is something seriously wrong with him in the old noggin, or he is just blowing off the possibility that the government could get power hungry and start changing laws again. i'll let you figure out if you want to take the rism on a brain aneurysm, a lie. thinking about that little $600 paperwork present we found hiding now in the bill that was supposed to be a deal with healthcare, i think. i think i'm going to stay as safe as possible. the government is trying to clamp down on the gold industry for a couple of reasons. this particular company is being targeted, because they don't like my voice and advertising supporting my voice. it sucks to be me. you know what? i'll still have my voice if you put me out of business. i'll go to parks. i will go door-to-door. i will. don't try me. trying to shut me up, however, is just a side benefit for them. they see what is coming. they cannot have you prepared for it. they need your money in the system. not in treasury bills. not invested. no, no. not with gold coins. hedging against their awful policies. so, your fate will be in their hands exactly where they want you. right here. oh, i'll take care of you, little one. if you get any message from this show, or from reading our founding fathers, get this message now. you must be self-sufficient. please get that message. "speci now. back to new york and glenn beck. ♪ ♪ >> glenn: shirley sherrod. hmm. now what is coming next? my prediction: a greeting at the white house. big forgiveness hug. and maybe a speech. i've been trying to make sense of this shirley sherrod story all week. it's amazing what people are saying about this network and me. it's amazing. shirley sherrod, the usda official forced to resign after she related a story of racism from her past and she was told to resign immediately on monday even though she was driving home at the time. watch. >> shirley, they want you to pull over to the side of the road and do it. because you are going to be on glenn beck tonight. >> glenn: mm-hmm. mm-hmm. that was on the 20th. she was talking about the afternoon of the 19th. she wasn't on that night. i didn't have her booked. i didn't -- i never even mentioned the story that night. when we finally did it address it on this program, i took her side. unlike what the "new york times" said today, i only took her side after the transcript was available. no, no. i asked for the transcript to be released and people be allowed to see it. the rush to judgment on shirley sherrod came from the white house. but that's not who is being blamed. apparently it's fox news' fault for reporting that the tape was available. show i showing it, in fact, by the time bill o'reilly and sean hannity and greta van susteren aired monday night, she had already been fired -- sorry. asked to resign by the white house. sherrod has not been on fox news. how many times have we called an offered? we did it for radio and television, did we not? >> four times. >> glenn: four times. she doesn't want to be on this program. i supported her. she did offer this insight. when you look at the reporting, there is another way of seeing they are racist. but i have seen that before now. i saw their reporting as bias during the bush administration and the clinton administration. someone needs to be the show of record here, so i guess it will be me. this is important. let's take a look at something i like to call the facts. because something is wrong. the timeline of the story. gang, make no mistake. this is about power and control of the media. that's all this is. sherrod gives a speech to the naacp march 27 in the evening in douglas, georgia. what's next? breitbart is first contacted regarding the video in early april. now here we are in july. i'd like to know who contacted breitbart. who released this video to breitbart? july 19, breitbart posts the video of sherrod. why? because of the tea party comments. notice he had it in april. he releases it here because of the naacp attack on the tea party. posts a video of sherrod. july 19, at 8:18 a.m. same day, sherrod get there's calls that the white house is asking for her resignation, because remember, she was going to be on my show. she was not on my show, nor did i mention that at 5:00 p.m. that day. i never talked about this. but the white house already asked for her resignation by the time i was on the air. i didn't talk about it. fox news reports on the video. 8:49 p.m. she had already been fired by the white house. o'reilly first reports on the sherrod video. the first fox report came after she had already resigned. how did fox dupe the white house into firing her when we hadn't aired it? the little hapless, innocent, american government. seriously? is this the narrative we're supposed to swallow here? hanna and greta -- sean hannity and greta van susteren reported on it that night. the story continues. then the naacp said they were appalled by her comments. then shirley practically moved in to cnn. they were picking out fabrics and dinner ware. i don't know what they've been doing over there, but she then said the administration was worried about her being on my show. she blamed the administration for jumping to conclusions and said she was taken out of context, the naacp said they were investigating. tuesday the 20th, tuesday the 20th at 5:00 p.m. i talked about it. i took her side. the naacp had not reverse itself, until 6:37. about a half hour after this program. gibbs apologized. vilsack offered her a new job. now suddenly it's our fault. we're evil, racist, we're hate mongers, mongering hatred against a former, defensively usda emplo >> glenn: okay. now what is the lesson we should have learned from shirley sherrod? we should have learned you don't jump to conclusions. context matters. and that people can make a mistake 25 years ago and they can change themselves and they can be better for it. change themselves. that's the lesson we should be learning but that's not the message from the media. the media is now glorifying shirley sherrod. last night in one of his insane meandering rants, keith olbermann came back from vacation -- it's weird, like someone said we need olbermann to deliver the message so he came from vacation. i could be wrong. he practically sainted the lady. the ladies on "the view" said she should be secretary of agriculture. why stop there? make her president sherrod? or queen sherrod? are we not making the same mistake in the opposite direction? do the ladies on "the view" know who she is? no, wait a minute, we don't have to know who the president is anymore before we elected him. the whole thing is a set-up. to let you know, shirley sherrod will not return our calls. she's out there calling us racists and she won't do it to our face. she won't appear on one of the only shows that said she deserved to be heard in full context and stood up for her. this program, i took her side of the story before the transcript came out. something stinks to high heaven here. politico reported the white house was raised for its decision, its action initially and then again the villain has changed. somehow it's fox. who didn't report on this until the white house forced her to resign. isn't that like accusing a man of fathering a woman's child despite him not even meeting the woman until after the baby was born? the only ones who watch this show know who i am kavenlt help those who read or write about it without watching. i hear this all the time. anyone who says you hate glenn beck. why? i heard he said, i read he said -- did you hear it? no, they never do. the media always seems surprised by me when i take an unconventional stance. the reason they are surprised is i don't think they met anybody who tries to do the right thing and doesn't have an agenda except what is right and what is quintessentially american and constitutional. we do sometimes get it wrong. but we try to tell you the truth and we try to be fair. it was unfair to have a woman tell a story of something that happened 24 years ago and not include her telling of the pivot point. the administration who says van jones, bill ayers, what they did in the past is irreleva irrelevant. no, no, it's not. when those two, what they have in their past they never denounced. that's not credible. history is relevant. you have to look at the person. did they conquer their demons? did they do this? be who you are, not who you allow yourself to become. shirley could have because she allowed herself to become influenced by race. she didn't. she conquered it and she became who she really is. that is the goal of everyone. i think i said that, but it may have been a really smart person i don't remember, it was in my drinking days when i first read that. i forgot a lot about the drinking days. i don't know much about this woman. i do know digging into a person's past to show how bad they are without showing their pivot point, if they have one, if they have one is inexcusable. i've been asking, i'd like questions answered about van jones. where is the pivot point? every human being makes mistakes, sometimes really bad ones, but knowingly taking things out of context is beneath anyone of decency. if we are going to save ourselves we need to know the truth. we need to know the whole truth. if there is anyone in the audience that didn't know used to be a dirt bag because i was drinking. paging dr. daniels. dr. jack daniels. i changed my life. that's important for you to know. it's important you know i did something about it. it's important for you to know about shirley. the most important thing to know is to know thy self. there are too many people who don't even know themselves. we stood up for her. look how they have spun our involvement. hmm. why?
