We had a fun day yesterday. Very, very rarely do all of us ladies at the today show have a chance to go out well, before that, please to go out together. We had lunch first at one of our favorites, frankie and johnnys. We all had the exact same lunch. We had shrimp scampi. Salad. And spinach and rice. With lots of lemon. And wine. Anyway, so we were eating and drinking and eating and drinking and eating and drinking. We were welcoming tamron officially. We still hadnt had an opportunity to really celebrate savannahs engagement, and so we said, lets do lunch and go to a matinee. If you ever had one of those lunches where you just youre eating and drinking and laughing and time just passes you by. Their phones out, no one had their watches out because nobody wears watches noirmt. I do. You didnt have it on. Now the show starts, they ask you to be there before 2 00, 2 00 everyone should be in their seats. Then they start around 2 07, 2 08, tradition. I looked at my phone and it was 2 09 and we were sitting there. I dont think we paid the bill. Natalie paid. Natalie. Oh, perfect natalie. I am so over her. Treating. We literally scooped our coats up and ran like crazy i did, hoda. You guys went to the bathroom. I had to go. I would have never made it. I said were coming, honestly, were coming, were so sorry. We all sat in the back because we didnt want to spoil it. Sexy as all get out. And it is all about it is like the book and the movie of the same name. And we enjoyed ourselves. We did. I would say the audience was about 90 women, wouldnt you . There is a terrific story about a couple, you guys, their names are andy and sarah from oklahoma. They always wanted children. Yes. And they were having trouble conceiving children. Right. And they decided that they wanted to adopt. Right. And it just so happened when they were adopting their children, they didnt adopt one child, they ended up adopting triplets. Yes, because yes, one adoption and one adoption, three babies. And they were very excited to have the triplets. Well, it just so happened that shortly after the adoption went through, guess who got pregnant . Yes, she did. Sarah found out she was pregnant, not with one baby, but two. So now within the course of one year, this couple has five babies. The triplets are 10 months old and the twins, i guess, are 10 weeks, right . Can you imagine . They go through over 80 bottles and 300 diapers a week. And then they have gone through the adoption process for such a long time, can you imagine they thought they had a baby coming and twice the birth mother changed her mind. This is so fraught with so much pain and frustration. But were so happy for them. So they visited today this morning. So adorable. They say they do a lot of feeding and theyre very rarely off their feet, theyre either changing diapers or feeding. God has a great sense of humor. Yes, amen. I like that their neighborhood and church are taking care of them as well. You know what i did last night . What . My very first google hangout. I know i know. Youre so techie. Im so techie. And then guess what happens . Guess what happens . Oh, my gosh. Look at that. Look at that smile. He goes over it gets better. They decide theyre going to grab him, theyre going to hoist him. That is the sweetest. He probably cannot believe talking about sexy, how sexy is that to see those guys be that kind and they were they were once that little boy. Oh. Thats amazing. Oh, my gosh. I love that. Lets go on to wasnt such a good day for justin bieber. Not so good. Bless his heart. Miami Beach Police Department they scooped him up. You remember that. Couple weeks ago. And what happens is we saw the video of him trying to walk the line. I didnt think he did so badly. It didnt look terrible. But they did show they released all the photos they took of him in prison, because if youre arrested, they take pictures of all the things that are, like, scars or tattoos identifiable markings. So we have 20 tattoos. One for every year of his life. Weve seen most of them because hes usually shirtless on stage and stuff. Anyway, hes got the image of jesus on one side. Hes got a grinning joker face. Hes got mom there. I know that. Hes got a psalm, your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. And i dont think he was talking about when hes walk ing the line. He knows whats right and one of these days hes going to come around and start doing it, hoda, i promise you. You do . Yeah. Speaking of tattoos, how about th one in did you see this on the front page of the post . I called my mom as i do every morning. My mom was crying her eyes out because she had just seen this. This is somebody who decided to tattoo on his dog a heart with his wifes name. Him and his wifes name. And i guess the dog was having the spleen removed and was under anyway and then in came the tattoo artist and tattooed that. Its so sad. I think its animal abuse. I really do. Its one thing if you want to have a tattoo and its your choice to go in and undergo it and have the pain. Dont do that to an animal that has no choice in the matter. I agree. I dont care how much you love your wife. Do it on her if she wants it. Leave the dog alone if she wants it. Settle down, people. It should be consensual tattooing is my point. Exactly. You didnt go out there and say, hey guys, i want to do a reality show. They came to you. Didnt they . The network came to us and said you guys are made for television. And im thinking, not so sure about that. But at any rate, they felt like that the crazy we deal with every day was something that the rest of the world could learn something from. Were you like a helicopter parent . Are you like micromanaging your kids . Do you hover . I do hover. I do hover. Are you concerned about your hovering . Do you think that is first of all, were you parented the same way . I was parented very similar. But i think that ive taken it to a whole other level. And why . I think out of fear of something happening to one of my children and the fact i love them with all of my heart. And i want them to be good, decent, honest people. I want them to be kind people. Motivations are perfect, right . Is that the way to do it, do you think . No. It is a very short answer. But the motivation is what matters. If were parenting out of fear, there is the risk your kids are never going to learn how to really handle the life that they need to handle on their own. And thats really a risk of being too involved and too hovery. Theyre not going to learn how to pick themselves up when they fall down or problem solve because youre always there to do it for them. Somebody said parents who hover have children who sneak around. Im sure thats something youre concerned about. But i know i dont know if youre the same age i am, but this world has changed so much since we were children. Thats right. And the way we were parented. So your fear is well founded in some respects. This is a different world now with different problems and different realities. Absolutely. What do we do about those fears, jennifer . Well come on. The fear is okay. But if you we were talking earlier, if were setting the stage early, setting out morals, values, and explaining to our children early, theyre going to make better decisions. But teenagers, their kind of job is to test the boundaries, push the limits. Thats what they do. Thats the time we have to be as involved as possible, but too involved, they dont learn how to clean up their own mess. Lets check out one clip. I think sometimes the conversation is what needs to happen too. You know, this is whats going to happen. And if he steals the keys back, there goes a boot goes on the car. Worried about mold or anything like that that may cause flulike symptoms. So theres all these home test kits that you can buy atted hardware store, the home center. They do a myriad of things. One thing that people are most concerned with is mold, radon, mildew inside the home. These home test kits cost anywhere from 10 to 15. However, they do have a lab component. So for instance, this radon kit, which radon, you know, is a gas, you have to be very conscious of, you take these vials, you put them in the basement. Typically, if you have a lower level. Leave them for 48 hours. Put them in an envelope. Mail them to the company. For 30 they will do a scientific analysis and let you know what the air quality is. Thats a lot less expensive than having someone come in absolutely. Other things, too if youre concerned, if your furnace filters are not the pleated type like these, this will help immensely. And then Something Else for air quality that i want everybody to remember is Carbon Monoxide detectors. A lot of people do not have those. Oh, my gosh. We had the story in new york about the restaurant. Businesses dont have legislation. Please make sure there is one of these on every floor. I cant believe businesses dont require that. You would think they would be. Our next question comes from judy. She says, we have a wooden front door, and its been on the house for over 30 years. We have noticed since it has been so cold in the winter theres no insulation at all around the frame, a lot of air blows around the frame, theyve been putting towels under it. Weather stripping is the number one thing you can do to be warmer. I was at a trade show last week and i discovered this stuff i never saw before, a product called cinch. What they did is they developed a weather stripping, this kind of weather stripping has been around forever. However, they have the super duper sticky 3m tape on the back. All you need to do is peel this away, you can cut this with a pair of tin snips like this to the size, a door kit is about 30, once you cut it in place, with the door closed, you put it here, push it against there. You push it, and you can apply this down to 30 degrees. So even when its cold out, the tape will stick. Here is my question, though, excuse me, sweetie. Can you then stain it so it matches . Comes in different colors. There you go. Because i wouldnt have that. Its unsightly. No, you wouldnt want it white. I just did that for the effect. I know.
