They lock you up, i dont know. What happens if you dont file your taxes . Two things that happen essentially are interest and penalties. Failure to file penalty is 5 of the unpaid liability per month up to a total of 25 . Failure to pay penalty is one half of 1 per month on the unpaid liability. Thats pretty brutal. I dont owe so never knew that. Failure to file is fraudulent. The penalty increases to 15 a month up to 75 of what he owe. Scary. This is why we pay o on time. How long do you think it takes before the irs tracks you down . Six months. I guess, what, a year. Id say three years. Its not immediate. Usually it takes several months. Maybe a year. Jail time is reserved for only the worst cases of fraud but dont expect to get off ea easy. Irs puts a lean on assets. They could garnish payments that are owed to you. Uncle sam will get his money.
