It lasted about two or three minutes and it was gone. Reporter even from a distance you could see the 120mileanhour winds, people here had to run for cover. The violent winds cut through power lines. This morning more than a thousand people here are still without power. Whats left of cindy is not going away quietly across the south. The strong winds plus the high tide added to the heavy rains were more than enough to flood this highway and just off the coast of pensacola, this waterspout was spinning up less than a mile from shore. Oh, my lord. Reporter authorities are still telling some families that they still need to leave their homes for higher ground. More than a foot of rain is soaking parts of mississippi leaving people in this neighborhood nearly underwater. The water is up about three or four more feet than yesterday. A showdown under way under the republican senators health bill and democrats say it will take coverage away from millions of americans and at least nine republican senators say they either cant vote for it or have serious concerns. President trump has settled a mystery saying he did not record his conversations with james comey after sparking a flurry of speculation with that tweet for weeks. The white house has refused to confirm or deny whether those existed for weeks. First to our Congressional Correspondent mary bruce for the latest on the health care showdo showdown. Reporter the senate bill has been unveiled. For now not going anywhere facing opposition within their own party. If they still want to get it done next week this morning theyre headed for renegotiations. This morning, the health care fight is on. [ chanting ] from the halls of congress [ chanting ] to the d. C. Airport where protesters gave senators a sendoff and a mouth full. The new Senate Republican bill is even facing opposition from within. I just didnt run on obamacare light or more government programs. Reporter republicans can afford to lose just four votes but already four conservatives not on board. They say the bill doesnt do enough to repeal obamacare and moderate republicans are concerned too. Some worry the bill repeals too much. Obviously its a process where it deserves consideration and debate and not kneejerk reaction. Reporter it sends the central obamacare requirement that everyone has to have health insurance. Offers tax credits to help americans buy coverage but scraps subsidies to lower costs. Rolls back the obamacare expansion of medicaid. But leaves in place protections for people with preexisting conditions. Senators will spend the weekend reviewing the bill but the big question remains, can they get the votes to push it over the finish line . There are 52 of us. All of us have leverage and the question for us is, you know, are we going to deliver or not . This is an opening offer, not the final deal so time will tell. Reporter the white house says the president wants a bill with heart. So does this version do the trick . Have enough heart, mr. President . A little negotiation but its going to be great. Reporter so now its time to negotiate. Sources tell me Republican Leaders always knew that tweaks would have to be made but even the president admits it is going to be difficult to get these votes. He says there is a very, very narrow path to get this diane. Robin. All right, mary, thank you very much. For more on what this Senate Health care bill could mean for you, our chief National Correspondent tom llamas. Youre here and have two scenarios. We spoke with experts at the American Hospital association nonpartisan and crunched the numbers. First lets start with somebody who would benefit from the plan. First hes 27 years old, single male selfemployed and he earns 200,000 a year. Heres why he wins out, first of all hes younger so he could pay a fifth of what older people pay for health insurance. Second, he lives in chicago. Its an urban area. More people just like obamacare. This he pay less for insurance and finally hes going to get a tax benefit as well. Medicare tax benefit and payroll taxes will be lower. Someone who would benefit. The flip side. Flip side, heres the person who will not benefit, 61yearold woman retired living off 28,000 a year and lives in a rural area in clay county. She could pay a fifth more of what younger customers pay for insurance. Number one, second she lives in clay county, iowa. Health care is much more expensive in rural area, fewer doctors, hospitals and people. The Affordable Care act. Finally also shes going to have higher out of pocket spending. Deductibles are higher and gets a smaller tax credit as well. What about people who do not have insurance under the Affordable Care act they are penalized. You remember that was a big flash point so no employer mandate or individual mandate so you will not be penalized if you dont have it. The flip side means with less people purchasing insurance, that increases costs for those who stay in. Still a long way to go. David. Thanks for the breakdown. President trump meanwhile, making news. What hes now saying about the special Counsel Robert Mueller who, of course, is leading the russia investigation and then whether there was any obstruction of justice. Of course, mueller was appointed after james comey was fired at the fbi, so hes bring in Jonathan Karl and, jon, you saw this overnight the president telling fox news he is bothered by the special Counsel Robert Muellers relationship with comey and heres what the president said when asked if mueller should recuse himself. Well, hes very, very good friends with comey which is very bothersome. But he also and were going to have to see. Theres been no obstruction. There has been no collusion. There has been leaking by comey. But theres been no collusion, no obstruction and virtually everybody agrees to that. So well have to see. I can say that the people that have been hired are all Hillary Clinton supporters. So, jon, if the president is concerned about this friendship as he calls it is is he trying to put mueller on notice . Reporter it sure sounds that way especially when you consider his legal team said the president ultimately has the right to fire him. Everybody serves at the pleasure of the president. That said, if the president were to attempt to fire mueller, you would see an outcry from fellow republicans, Top Republicans on capitol hill have made it clear that if the president were to do that, it would be a grave mistake. In the meantime, jon, on this issue of whether the president is recording conversations at the white house. We remember the tweet from the president saying james comey better hope there are no tapes. It took 41 days for an answer. The president tweeting this. He said, i did not make and do not have any such recordings but, jon, you asked the white house why the game here . Reporter yeah, i didnt get a direct answer yesterday but i think we got a direct answer from the president just today. Also in that interview with fox, the president basically said that he was doing this to try to force comey to in his words tell the truth and he believes that he told fox anyway that he believes that comeys story changed once the idea that there might be tapes out there was in the public realm. Now to a major Court Decision in mississippi saying businesses and Government Employees can deny services to lgbt couples because of religious objections. Abcs david wright is here and has details. The 5th circuits decision means mississippi could soon begin enforcing the socalled religious objections law which would allow people in that state to deny services to samesex couples on religious grounds but representatives of the Lgbt Community say even though the u. S. Supreme court says samesex couples have a constitutionally guaranteed right to get married, mississippis law says people who disagree have a right to refuse to serve them. Im afraid this is going to be yet another excuse to hate. It throws it all into question. Reporter this ruling reminiscent of indianas controversial religious freedom bill, which then governor mike pence signed into law. That law allowed Business Owners to discriminate based on sexual orientation. The owners of this pizza place in walkerton, indiana, refused to cater a gay wedding. I do not think it is targeting gays personally i dont think its discrimination. Reporter miss law, house bill 1523, passed at the statehouse after the Supreme Court issued its ruling on samesex marriage but was never allowed to take effect. Supporters of the measure say it protects the beliefs of people who insist marriage is between a man and a woman, and who believe a persons gender is determined at birth. Simply all were trying to do is a that people of faith have some protection from an overbearing government. Reporter but opponents say the mississippi law endorses bigotry pure and simple. Opponents of the law have several other avenues of appeal open to them. They plan to appeal immediately. Theres also hope that maybe the legislature could change the law. Thats what happened in indiana, exactly where governor pence signed into law some changes designed to address the Lgbt Communitys concerns. I often say i love my home state. I was just there this past weekend. There are a lot of good people, great people in the state of mississippi where wii went to hh school and my parents are buried in the National Cemetery because my father served in the military in three wars. The Lgbt Community is not looking for special treatment. Theyre not looking for special rights. Its about equal rights, civil right, human rights. Thats what its all about. You have a lot of love for your hometown. Like they did in indiana they could take a look but this wasnt voted on by the people. This was a house bill that was signed by the governor. His spokesperson saying cosby plans to hold a series of town Hall Meetings to educate people about Sexual Assault as a juror in his trial now speaks out and abcs linsey davis has the details. The jurors that we have heard from describe a grueling process in a tiny room and now the cosby camp is suggesting that the duration and location of deliberations may have actually worked against the comedian. He wouldnt say how he voted during deliberations, but did say he questioned how the trial was affecting the 79yearolds health. Reporter the juror also seemed to question the woman at the center of the case, andrea constand, who testified during the sixday trial that cosby gave her a drug that rendered her incapable of stopping his alleged assault describing her as wellcoached. I dont doubt what she said happened. But she asked for an apology and he gave her two apologies, and she refused any other aid that he offered. He and his agent who traveled with him to north korea sat down with michael for his first interview. Otto warmbier was released the same day thaw went to north korea. All the prayer and love to his family, you know, but i didnt know he was sick. But he wasnt sick. When he went there he was fine. A year later, the same day you go over hes released in a coma and he passes away less than a week later. In this but this is in a place you say this guy would runs this place is your friend. How can that happen and you still have these feelings and sentiment you know, oh, my god, this guy is my friend, im going to die for this guy, no, its not like that. Hes a friend of mine, great. I dont look at the political side about him. I look at the friendship about him and with the whole political with the kid that died i didnt know that i was the one that supposed to go over and get him out. Do you think it had anything to do with it. I know being there had something to do with it because when i was organizing the trip and met with the delegates here i addressed Otto Warmbier and i said to them, we we would need some type of good faith if were ever going to do some type of future sports relations, so i asked three times before you went. Before we went. I asked on behalf of dennis for his release three times and they said they understood, that was all that was said in that meeting. The same day that you go in hes released. Do you look at that and think maybe were being used here . Maybe we are a distraction from that. I have but theres no doubt in my mind that these trips and me asking on his behalf was had a lot to do with it. Ottos father said Dennis Rodman had nothing to do with otto. You know, its a diversion, you know, they just released otto. Its a diversion. When we cam back we wanted to meet with him but told that couldnt happen. Have you talked to anybody there in north korea and said what happened with this kid . No, we havent heard anything. But its just mysterious a 21yearold healthy kid all of a sudden is in a coma. Nothing apparently happened and no one wants to say what happened but something happened. Well, like i said im not into all that. Like i said i was so happy to see the kid released. Later that day thats when we found out he was ill. No one knew that. I was so happy he got released. Jumping up and down, all right man, all right, man, good things came out of this trip, okay. So with three more americans being held over there, are you going to lobby for their release as well. If we could get more trips going over there i think anything is possible. Its possible. Did you have a chance to meet with kim jongun when you were there this time . No, we didnt meet him this time. The previous times we did. I think the fact that, you know, my trips have been going to north korea is more like trying to get the communication there sportswise and trying to release people and trying to do political stuff, its almost trying to reach out for sports. And see if i can bring sports to north korea and north korea come to here. From the first time you went to the last time you went have you seen changes . Yeah. We seen a lot of changes, the fact that it is so modernized there when you go over and hear the radio and people talking, theyre so happy now because its more like a civilized again. You say happy and civilized and kim jongun you said is a friend for life. Blue hes a dictator who has suppressed other people, who has taken away some basic human rights, but you think everyone there is actually happy. Yeah, i think people dont see the stuff but i dont think people see him as a friendly guy, but if you actually talk to him so when you see him do you see a different guy . Oh, yeah. Does he smile . Does he talk is he open . We always talk, right. We sing karaoke. So fun. Ride horse, everything. You dont see that. Those people dont hate us. Its the politics. Its the bad thing. If we can try to figure something out, just open the door, i put my life on this if donald trump had a chance, had a chance, he would get on a plane and shake his hand and try to make peace. Im going over just to try to help and come back and, wow, what did i do thats so bad . Im not here to say, okay, i got to be i got it just sucks. You know, with that being said and seeing you get emotional, do you think these trips youve taken have been worth all the criticism . Absolutely. I think its worth it. First of all given what we heard do you think Dennis Rodman played any role in Otto Warmbiers release . We dont know because we dont know the reaction from within the country but the timing was a little strange which is true. Because just when otto was released he went over there. But, you know, this is an interesting story because otto was he left because he was in this horrible health condition. The government there probably wanted to get him out before he died there in their country but there was an influence he did had when kenneth bae was released. He has had influence before. He has. What do you make of this statement from north korea saying they deny cruelty to Otto Warmbier and say theyre the victims in this. Well, what do you think . I mean its really hard to know whats going on inside the country. For them to deny it is quite something. I never heard them do any have a Statement Like this to try this is getting so much attention im sure theyre wondering and afraid of how this will be portrayed. Around the world. Around the world. Its cruel. Youve got an incredible special on 20 20 looking into this. What more have we learned about the 17 months that Otto Warmbier was in captivity . Well, interesting, its really difficult to say how he died. But what they do know he died because there was really a lack of oxygen in the brain so the brain started to decay for more than a year so when you talk about some kind of torture the fact for sure and they have to admit this is that over there they knew that he was unconscious in a coma for more than a year and they never even told the families, even the u. S. Government at all that this had happened so thats a form of treatment as well as it does not meet the standards, the international standards. No matter what you think about torture, what their talk is about today they never let this man back until right within a couple of weeks before he died. Ill tell you it was reassuring to see the entire Community Come out to support Otto Warmbiers parents. Reporter the state of wisconsin now has 90 days to retry dassey. The Wisconsin Department of justice telling abc news, we anticipate seeking review by the entire 7th circuit or the United States Supreme Court and hope that todays erroneous decision will be reversed. And the ruling also highlights testimony describing dassey as highly suggestible and docile. The documentary arguing that he has an intellectual disability. S. Supreme court is going to hear this and the other thing they could do which is what i think that they should do is drop this. The bottom line is the only piece of evidence against dassey is the confession. The confession is at best incredibly questionable. So i dont know why they continue to fight this. Typically when you hear about appeals, its the defense appealing, not the prosecution. You dent think they should retry him . No and i think they should decide this is it. Thousand they seem to want to retry them but they need that confession so the legal rulings are about whether the confession would be admissible. If they dont have the confession they cant retry him because thats all that they have. The uncle is also appealing. Thats right. Totally separate case, right. The supporters of steven avery want to lump them in together and say, aha, see what happened to dassey. It has nothing to do with avery. Avery i believe and ive said this publicly before, i believe the evidence against avery is incredibly overwhelming and so its a totally separate situation between avery and dassey, dassey ought to be released, avery completely different story. This comes from acog and this is the Largest Group of Womens Health professionals in the country and they issued these guidelines about screening for Breast Cancer and the average risk woman and stress patient autonomy and something called shared decisionmaking meaning what the woman and her Health Care Provider go through talking about average risk women to start discussing mammogram screening at age 40 and to continue screening until at least 75 years of age. Previous recommendations said stop at 75 and, again, the emphasis here, patient autonomy and treating the patient personally to individualize her risk because its not one side fits all. Youre an ob gyn. Why all the confusion . You have to go for Historical Context and perspective and go back to 2009. We covered the story. The u. S. Preventive service task force, a group of physicians and nurses reviewed all the Available Evidence and data on mammograms and saving lives from Breast Cancer and what they found was that in the age group 40 to 49, there was a small benefit and we have to emphasize that small, but that the harms like overbiopsy, overtreatment, overdiagnosis outweighed the benefits.
