Meanwhile, the Trump White House is once again consumed by petty dramas. For more on this, its time for a closer look. [ cheers and applause ] seth today the republicanled fcc voted to dismantle the free and open internet by repealing former president obamas Net Neutrality rules, which were designed to ensure that all web traffic is treated equally, and prevents Service Providers from blocking or filtering content they dont want you to see. The fcc is led by ajit pai, who is best known for both his opposition in Net Neutrality and for the size of his coffee mug. Greetings, chairman pai. Mindy hill with thedcvoice. Com. Hi. And i just have a comment. During the obama administration, the fcc had no jurisdiction [ laughter ] over regulating programming. Seth im sorry, but you cant just drink from a mug that size without any explanation. [ laughter ] was the mug always that big . Or did you shrink . Are you sharing an office with rick moranis . Is that why you want to limit the internet, so people cant go online and make memes about you and your giant coffee mug . [ laughter ] now, polls show that americans overwhelmingly support Net Neutrality, with 83 overall in favor of keeping the fcc rules, including 75 of republicans, and it makes sense republicans would favor an open internet. Otherwise they would have to get their news from newspapers or cnn, instead of Facebook Group patriot eagle maga 1776. [ laughter ] Net Neutrality ensures an open and democratic internet where people can make and access content equally. But pai has argued that limiting regulation of the internet would actually encourage companies to innovate more, and he keeps using one phrase in particular. Until 2015, we had light touch regulation. The consumer is best served with light touch regulation. Its under that light touch framework light touch regulation light touch regulation and thats the kind of success that we want to promote in the future with light touch regulation. Seth please stop using the term light touch. You sound like someone defending themselves to hr. [ laughter ] what did deborah say i did . That was a light touch [ applause ] you were there it was light and yet, despite the potentially disastrous consequences of this vote, d. C. And the Trump White House in particular have been consumed once again by chaos and drama, like, for example the firing of longtime trump ally omarosa. Now, omarosas official job title was Communications Director for the office of public liaison. But no one was ever really sure exactly what she did in the white house. In fact, before she was fired, all anyone had ever heard about omarosas time in the white house was that she held a photo shoot with her bridesmaids there in april before getting married. Politico reported that omarosa brought members of her 39person bridal party to 1600 pennsylvania avenue for an extended wedding photo shoot, catching fellow senior aides and some Security Officials by surprise in her bridal attire. The visitors loudly wandered around, looking to snap photos in the rose garden and throughout the west wing. Oh, my god, trumps staff treats the white house the way tourists treat the m m store. [ laughter ] i want a picture with the green one [ laughter ] also, 39 bridesmaids . Is it a massive wedding or are you just trying to make one friend feel really terrible . [ light laughter ] im sorry, becky, the max was 39 and youre my 40th best friend. Now apparently, it was chief of staff john kelly who did the firing, although trump signed off on it, reporting that was confirmed by april ryan, White House Correspondent of american urban radio networks, in one especially great moment when ryan called back to trumps famous catch phrase. So general kelly had had enough and hed finally gotten the president to sign off. And last night it did not end well. She was a contestant on the apprentice, President Trumps former tv program, so they have a history. They go way back. And she was fired again. Twice, yes. [ light laughter ] all right. I dont know if he said, youre fired. He didnt say youre fired but general kelly said, youre fired. All right. Everybody stand by. Theres more news. Seth damn, look at her sipping from her mug while she says that. The only way that would have been better, if she had ajit pais mug. [ laughter ] today on good morning america, omarosa claimed that the stories about her exit from the white house were not true. Specifically, she refuted reports that she blew up at kelly and had to be escorted off the white house premises. In fact, omarosa said she didnt make a scene and that kelly fired her in a very private place. I resigned, and i didnt do that in the residence, as being reported. John kelly and i sat down in the situation room, which is a very secure, very quiet room in the white house. Seth wow, the situation room. Though i have a feeling any room omarosa goes into becomes a situation room. [ laughter ] seriously, you know its bad when they have to fire you in the same place they killed osama bin laden. [ laughter ] omarosa [ cheers and applause ] omarosa also claimed she had a story to tell, and would eventually tell that story once her tenure at the white house is officially over. And later when the gma anchors were discussing the interview, Robin Roberts gave her the perfect sendoff. She said she has a story to tell. Im sure shell be selling that story. Well see. Like new york republican congressman peter king, who did not hold back in an interview on cnn on wednesday. Why bannon . Why is he such a big deal . I was even ready not even so much as a political issue. Almost as a moral issue. This guy does not belong on the national stage. Steve bannon looks like a cop who went under cover to solve a case, and then they forgot to tell him the case was solved, so he just stayed under cover for another ten years. And we were saying backstage, this is a very important appearance for you because if it wasnt for this yeah. Seth no one would know about star wars. Its true. [ laughter ] its really true. I want to thank the show. Seth yeah. This is i think this is, you know, going to help those box office numbers. Yeah, its really exciting. Its a little film. It needs support. And youre so generous to help them. Seth its a tiny indy film. Youve had such an incredible year. And i want to ask about star wars, but i also want to congratulate you on your golden globe nomination. [ cheers and applause ] thank you seth that was that just an incredible experience . It seems as though that cast was uncommonly close. Is that safe to say . Yes. We are a Group Texting family at this point. Seth thats really nice to hear. Its really amazing. And Reese Witherspoon and i had done the film wild together and then literally kind of rolled right into Big Little Lies and we were all friends so its amazing. And its very rare as actresses growing up, to have any other women, sadly, in cast or crew, and thats changing more and more. Seth yeah. So very exciting. Seth yeah. It must have been an incredibly empowering experience. And now im assuming all the other Golden Globes your first visit to the Golden Globes was 1982. Yes. Seth you were miss Golden Globes. Which i believe means you were like assisting with the trophies . Passing out of the trophies. Seth you this year, i think its very safe to say you will arrive in a limousine. As is that is how people arrive. Yes. Seth 1982, not how you arrived. No, no. Seth how did you and if you were hosting in 1982, you, like me well, i wouldnt say you would have been driven by my grandmother in her toyota corolla. But that could have if you wanted a ride. Seth was that so you went in your grandmothers toyota corolla. Yes. Yes. To the award show. And changed in the bathroom with everybody else. And everybodys there, and theyre driving their car. And i think the oscars were like that too. Seth really . Its a dinner party and then everybody went home. Seth thats so its just funny when you think about the Golden Globes, you dont think about someone saying like, ill pick you up afterwards [ laughter ] i know. Or, can you guys validate . Only if you win. Seth and you were in exceptional television. Again, we were talking, not only Big Little Lies, but also twin peaks which was absolutely fantastic. And it must have been so much fun to work with david lynch again. Amazing. Seth yeah. Ive been working with him since i was 17 on blue velvet. And hes seth who dropped you off at blue velvet . Do you remember . [ laughter ] i think it was Dennis Hopper. Seth yeah. And it was a very troubling drive. Seth yeah that is i would imagine the difference between grandma dropping you off and Dennis Hopper is a massive gap. [ laughter ] or thats actually the buddy picture i want to see. Seth yeah, exactly. Your grandmother, Dennis Hopper. So i know people must ask about david lynch all of the time. But i always ask people, and it seems, and you can confirm this, hes a lot funnier and lighter in spirit than you would assume from the darkness of his material. Yes. Hes hilarious. And amazing. And i would say the two questions i get asked the most are and i want them to be morphed into one question. What is david lynch really like . And was that really dinosaur poop you put your hand in . [ laughter ] seth oh wow. And i just i feel like they sometimes go together in the same conversation. Seth do you think david lynch is upset that you put your hand in dinosaur poop in a movie and it wasnt one of his . Very upset. [ laughter ] its somehow seth hes like, i do all this weird stuff and then you went elsewhere to have your dinosaur poop scene. Yeah. Thanks to Steven Spielberg. Seth yeah, there you go. And so i heard a story about david lynch and you laughing so hard on set and the crew laughing so hard on the set, that you had to stop and film it the next day. That is true. On wild at heart, nicholas cage and i have a scene in which i have to tell a very absurd and hilarious story to us over and over again. And we started at about noon. And at 3 00 a. M. , we had to call the day. Because we couldnt stop. And there was one take where i was starting to tell the story about my cousin dell, who is obsessed with cockroaches, i wont say any more, it gets really inappropriate. And we got through it, and david had now put a bandana around his mouth so i couldnt see him laughing. The crew kept it together, nicolas cage kept it together, it was all perfect, and i say the line that was making us laugh hysterically, and i look up, and the boom the mic is above me, and its shaking. [ laughter ] and im looking at it as i get through the line and i see the sound man just laughing hysterically and we had to go home and start again the next day. [ laughter ] seth that is fantastic. Its been very strange for you doing press recently, because of star wars, obviously. You dont want to talk to people too much about it. They dont want you to ruin it. I know youre going to do another season of Big Little Lies, you really probably cant talk about that that much. Twin peaks you havent has that been strange to do press for projects that are so under wraps . Im the most boring interview possible. Seth thats not true. Thank you for having me here, because i cant say a thing. [ laughter ] i mean literally, i cant wait for everyone to see star wars, because all i can say is, yes, i can confirm i have purple hair in the film. Seth oh there you go. Seth and this must be exciting, as well. One of the things about these new star wars movies is theres so many Strong Female characters. Is that really exciting to be a part of this generation of star wars . It really is incredible. And lets say, as a deep homage, we had the greatest muse possible in princess leia, our beloved carrie fisher. So yes [ applause ] so to continue that tradition and have star wars and the incredible producers working on the film and ryan johnson who wrote and directed it, have these incredible female, complicated, powerful women is really exciting. Seth you mentioned Jurassic Park. Is that a film you say a lot of people ask you about it. Is that a film your children have found, and are they impressed with that . Uh i think so. Well my daughter actually just saw it for the first time at halloween. Seth oh wow. Her friends wanted to see it. And for years, she was like, are you kidding . I do not want to see my mother being chased by a raptor. That is not interesting to me. [ laughter ] seth you mean does she in general play the cool card of im not interested in seeing mom in movies . Shes really interested in movies. But me in jeopardy wasnt deeply interesting. Seth okay. Oh, thats very sweet of her that she didnt want to see you get chased by dinosaurs. But my son seemed fine. [ laughter ] get her seth hes like, i feel like one of the dinosaurs would have caught you, mom. [ laughter ] yeah, exactly. Ive seen you run, girl. Seth um and but when she saw it, was she happy . Did she think it was cool . She thought it was cool. She loved it. And now they have both seen star wars a few days ago and i think they were really excited by that too, so. Seth i think Jurassic Park and i know there is another one of those coming as well, which im sure you cant tell me a word about. So i wont even ask. Tell you seth yeah. But i will say, it still strikes me that that moment of seeing dinosaurs for the first time in Jurassic Park, like what movies were before that moment and what movies were after that moment is one of those huge gaps that in the theater, you realize. I still remember that awe. Well its incredible that when we were making it, people now have said, wow, you know, being part of a blockbuster, what did that feel like . But it felt like any other kind of incredible, independent film, in that it was a pioneered film, because cgi hadnt really happened. Seth right. So Steven Spielberg was there inventing with these brilliant men, like ilm and sam winston who did the animatronics like how to create these creatures. And it was aweinspiring. Seth yeah. And you were then one of the first people who had to as an actor go like this yes. Seth to something that was not there. Exactly. Yes. [ laughter ] seth yeah. The mouthagape shot from Jurassic Park has been people are like, oh, my god, youre the one that goes seth and it was probably just a guy with like a tennis ball and a stick. And its like this really triumphant ending to the video. And it was either i was just going to walk out by myself or maybe have axl walk out with me. How cute. So i just told everyone, if he doesnt feel like it, its not happening. Im walking out into the daytime by myself. But he just it ended up being like an activity for us. Seth thats fantastic we do a lot of stuff. At 4 years old, everything we do is exciting and its an activity. So it was like seth how many takes did you have to do . Because the one thing about shooting anything is it takes forever and children do not have a long attention span. Oh, no, we were losing the light. That was like two takes. Seth okay good, thats about right. He was like, ooh, there are cameras, im making a movie, im at moms work. It was just fun. Seth and this is a very personal song for you, yes . A very personal song, yeah. Yeah, this song is one thats really autobiographical and its just one of those ones where i really just lifted everything, and just got down to the heart and soul of myself, and everyone. Seth are those painful to write or triumphant to write . Like, when you do write a song like that, is it difficult or does it actually come out quickly and youre like, oh, how cathartic . No, no, i feel like its a huge release. Im a huge believer in not keeping emotions in, and holding resentments and all these weird things inside. You know, you feel something, youve got to get it out somehow. Im blessed to be able to do it in lyrics. With my voice. So that you can hear it. And now in the video. But this song is really, really personal. Because its about its about being imperfect. And really, kind of saying, okay, were all imperfect in some way. We all have something. Maybe not you. And they have to convince the panel of diddy, dj khaled, meghan trainor, charlie walk, head of republic records, by the way. Seth okay, great. Convince them that they have a chance to that they have the right to challenge one of the final four for their seats. Seth oh, wow. Yeah. They do one song, they either get to challenge or they dont. Seth and do you when you deal with this young talent, how do you feel like you present yourself to them . You know what, its funny, because im right there with them. Because im sitting there the panel is here. The four are there. And im right there with these challengers. And i really feel like im kind of like the nurturer. Like the mother of it all. That if you ever go into a club, the deejay if the deejay knows youre there, they will play one of your songs. Is that accurate . Yeah, thats accurate i think for most music artists. Seth yeah. So you can either just give them a what up, hey cheers like, yeah, i know. Cool. You know, just try to play it off that way. Or you can totally ignore it and just be like youre in deep conversation.
