It leaves a woman partially blind. Yeah. That happened. And it didnt have to. Now fox 29 news at 10 00. A routine visit to the dentist turned into a life altering event for one woman. Thanks for joining us im iain page. Im lucy noland. She was blinded after that visit and obviously it should have never happened. Fofox 29s Chris Oconnell joins us in stewed eighty seven you talk with her tonight. I did lucy. Anyone who sits in dentist chair needs to listen to this story. An accident that had devastating results a new jersey mom is trying to make certain it never happens again from her south Jersey Office jenn maroney sees things a lot differently these days. I front of thed my dentist and i loved my dentist, and i had no idea that this was even a danger. In july of 2013, the belmar mother of two went to her dentist for a root canal. It was a visit that changed her live forever. The dentist dropped a needle in my eye leaving me permanently blind in my right eye. Marini documented what happened to her. Were starting in black and white to prepare you for some it may be difficult to watch. But she says the pictures of her now blinded right eye is something any dental patient needs to see. The bacteria from the nova cane needle began eating away at her retin in a after several surgeries doctors at Wills Eye Hospital told her her vision loss was permanent. She now wears a prosthetic eye. This picture is actually the morning after the accident. Instead of feeling sorry for herself maroney turned her devastating diagnosis into a positive. She started jenns vision an organization now fighting to require eye protection for dental patients. It was 100 preventible, if i had eye protection on, this would have never happened. Under cdc guidelines dentists are required to protect their eyes but patients are not. Maroney is hoping her campaign can help change that. Shes asking people to take selfies in the dental chair wearing protective eye wear. If you dont wear eye protection, this can s what could happen to you, and i dont want it to. So please, please listen to what im saying. Now a settlement prevents her from talking about the dentist involved but since her incident her campaign of eye protection has received dentists from around the world. Many of them pledging to change their ways and provide eye protection for their patients. Such a simple fix to that. Umhmm. All right, thank you much, chris. Another big story tonight. A dramatic drop in temperatures. We are tracking a shock to the system. Kathy, youre outside right now. You cant tell if there was anything wrong with the plane from the video. Its really impossible to tell what the wind was doing, um, and you dont know what the pilots intentions were. I think its terrible thing and terrible reflection on who we are as humans and americans when we have those kind of feelings. Its really disheartening and especially a radio host whose a public figure. Its sad someone would say that. I think its just a good example when you should think before you speak. Reporter federal crash investigators are expected to have some preliminary information within the next week or thereabouts attorney gag leanne know says the icon a5 that halladay was pilot asking include a crash recorder system not quite as sophisticated as the black box youd see on a big commercial jetliner but it could tell us the air speed and the throttle position that would help investigators figure out exactly what halladay was doing at the moment of impact. Halladays family released a statement that reads in part while we mourn the loss of the core of our family, we choose to celebrate him and remember the man we knew privately on and off the field. Shawnette. Reporter iain, i talk with police several times over the past hour and right now they believe that the shooting was accidental. Self inflicted but they do say they are still interviewing the childs parents and other people who were home at the time to be certain. I was sitting on the step, and i didnt hear nothing. Reporter this girl lives a few doors away from the home on the 200 block of west godfrey street in hollowly knee where a twoyearold was shot once in the head. Five or six cop cars caped and zoomed up on the sidewalk and got out and went in the house. Reporter the child died at the hospital. She doesnt know the family personally but would see the boy with them walking to the store. They was a couple times he was outside and my daughter was outside and shes two, too, so we had her on the four wheeler he would try to get on the four wheeler. He was very playful just knowing that happened to him, its painful. Reporter it happened around 2 00 oclock this afternoon. Police say the boys father showed up and drove him to einstein where he died soon after. Investigators say several people including the childs mother were inside the house when it happened. Its unclear exactly what happened. Presumably it was an accidental gunshot wound of some sort officer reckless gunplay somebody inside the house. Reporter police drove the mother in this police car to the hospital but say soon after they brought both parents to Police Headquarters to be interviewed by homicide detectives. Grieving family members stopped by the house all evening looking for answers. But were met by police guarding the door. What happened to this little boy has saddened the neighborhood. Its crazy. It is. Getting out of control. Its very sad. Its really upsetting. They need to just take all the guns in the world and just get rid of them. Stop making them. In fact weve learned tonight the lapd is putting together a special task force to investigate allegations of Sexual Misconduct in tinseltown. More bombshell Sexual Assault allegations rattling big names from hollywood to washington. The latest accusations coming against comedian louie ck5 women say he exposed himself to them. Alabama Senate Candidate roy moore blasting what he calls a political and media driven agenda after the Washington Post reported a woman claimed moore a former judge made sexual advances and inappropriately touched her when she was just 14 years old. And actor Charlie Sheen denies a report he sexually assaulted corey hame when he was just 13. Its very hard to have gone through Something Like that so humiliating and really debilitating and then feel like especially with a movie star you wont be believed. Reporter family therapist darby fox has years of experience dealing with victims of Sexual Assault including children and says the increasing tally of accusations against powerful entertainers only encourages others to come forward as well. Two, 14yearolds an 15yearold were shot on the 1800 block every south ring gold street tonight. 1584 old was shot in the hip and stomach. Hes in critical condition. The other two teens are stable. 28yearold man was also shot in the chest. Hes also in critical condition. So far no arrests from Philadelphia Police. Three dozen gunshots through in mill creek in the middle of the morning close to a school. Now police say it happened around 9 30 this morning on the 4500 block of marian avenue. Reporter this is what neighbors on the 4500 block of marion avenue woke up to first thing thursday morning nearly three dozen shell casings littering the street and sidewalk where 29yearold terrell shields was shot to death. Would never imagine Something Like this to happen on a block like this. Not nine, 10 00 oclock in the morning. Reporter homicide and crime seen investigators arrived to fine this chevy impala with louisiana tags riddled with gunfire. At least four shots also crashed into the home belonging to the victim who neighbors say just got married four months ago. Getting into the car or out of the car we havent determined that yet. 34 shots fired. Thats kind of kind of common around here. Reporter shooting happened just before 10 00 a. M. Three blocks from a school. Neighbors heard the shots and came away from the shooting seen shaking their heads over the level of violence displayed he here. Pretty dangerous for everybody else, you know what i mean, kids going to school and i mean quiet neighborhood. Its not regular to get used to this type of stuff. Reporter police there were two gunman they fell two different caliber shell casings on the scene. They have no motive for the murder and no weapons were recovered. At least two bullets were found inside the home. Nobody want to see this kind of activity going on, you know what i mean, here, nowhere else. Its scary. It gets me concerned about a lot of people but its like its life. Reporter Police Continue to search for witnesses and Surveillance Video hoping to identify the two gunmen. New this evening, well soon hear the results of an investigation connected to the death of a Penn State Fraternity pledge. Prosecutors say a frat member erased key footage from a basement camera the night that led to the death of timothy piazza. On monday were expected to hear the findings of the investigation into that deleted footage. 14 former members of the now closed fraternity Face Criminal Charges connected to 19yearold piazzas death. Reporter three year old elijah died last friday his family says paid staff member at the seventh of a center for Family Services in harlem fed him a Grilled Cheese sandwich despite having a fatal dairy allergy. Elijah attended Early Learning Pre K Program at the facility his family says the school had documents stating his severe allergy. The administration for Childrens Services known as acs oversees the program. We do know that all of our programs have a health and safety plan. Whether or not those plans were followed, we dont know. Again, we look forward to the out come of the investigation. Reporter the City Health Department which licensed the facility is leading the investigation. And issued a statement saying were closing the center for Family Services and continue to go aggressively investigate what happened and whether the facility could have done something differently to prevent this tragedy. Some parents say the preschool never contacted them about the tragedy and they found out this morning when they arrived at school. I didnt hear about it until now that you just told me. The Winter Weather outlook, the snow, the cold, when maybe its just me but im thinking its feeling like winter out. Little bit. A lot tomorrow i think. Oh yeah. Big question though how much snow are we going to get this year . Kathy orr and Scott Williams joining us outside. What can were he expect this winter. Those temperatures are dropping. The wind is picking up, kathy, no snowfall just yet but we know its inevitable. We do weve been working on it for weeks. We crunched the numbers. We know how much snow and how much cold. Heres a look at the fox 29 wint wet outlook. As soon as we feel the first chill of fall, everyone starts talking about winter. Do you ever last year . You can say it was inn eventful. The first measurable snowfall of the season wasnt until decembet even a half an inch of snow. And then there was christmas. It rain christmas eve. It was mild with highs in the 50s. Jack frost was nipping someone elses nose. As far as snow, biggest snowfall of the season was only sick in inches that hammed in march. It looks like this winter season will be similar. Thanks sue we have to lock at a whole light of climate date to compile the wint wet forecast. Lets begin with the sea surface temperatures and look at the shades of blue. That indicates cooler water so a building la nina pattern more active pacific jet more storms there and likely wetter weather around sections of the great lakes. But dry and warm for the southern tear of the united states. The jet stream could also be determined by some of the snow pack in russia and siberia and right now pretty hef fee amount of snow coverage there so that could fuel some cold weather outbreaks for the lower 48 and also a negative ao pat arctic oscillation that could mean colder air and more storm systems moving in our direction. Thats one wild card. Well have to watch. The bottom line i think the pattern will be similar to last year. More snow in the mountains and less snow in the big cities like philadelphia, baltimore and washington d. C. Lets break it down month by month. First, with temperature. December will be at or slightly above normal. January colder air will move in go 1 degree below normal. February i think will be at least 2 degrees above the Monthly Average temperature and with march same thing. 1 degree above normal. As far as snow, dont expect much in december. We will ease into the wept season with mainly rain. That means only a slight chance of a White Christmas again. January will bring more clip err per systems that will limit moisture to start the new year. But like last year, there will be a pattern change in late january through mid february when there will be a better chance of coastal storms with 6inches or greater snowfalls. January will end up above average snowfall around 6. 5inches. There will still be a chance of snow in march with two to 5inches expected. So the fox 29 Weather Authority is forecasting 15 to 22inches of snow. Thats below the annual average of 22. 4. And lets go ahead and break that down county by county for you. That 15 to 22inches will extend into sections of central delaware, kent county, also, into comer land county, gloucester county, salem county as you move into sections of Burlington County as well and then as we move down the shore the immediate shore points anywhere from ten to 18inches of snow. Kathy. To the north and west of philadelphia where we have our suburbs heading into the Lehigh Valley 22 to 30 and of course the upper lehigh area and also berks county into the poconos over 30inches of snow. So were forecasting higher than we had last year but still below the average of 22. 4. What do you guys think . I like below average snowfall, kathy. You know that. [ laughter ] im hoping that comes out to be true. All right. Thanks, guys. Roy halladays family Just Announced public celebration of his life next tuesday in florida where the phillies train. In a statement his family also said in part just as he was known for his work ethic in baseball he was widely respected by those who knew him in the Aviation Community for his hard work. Attention to detail and dedication to safety while flying. Now many questions remain about halladays final moments. Yet more details are coming in are aing the plane itself. He says aircraft flying close to land or water can be unforgivi unforgiving. You dont do it close to the ground because the ground doesnt move. Reporter the images object taped by tmz sports have raced still more questions about the operation and marking of the 400,000 ultra light aircraft. Tecce said considered buying an a5 but backed off. One of the test pilots was killed in the aircraft a year ago. That was the first yellow flag for me. Reporter he says the images of halladay flying low are haunting. If anything goes wrong, the distance between the plane and the ground is very small and theres not enough time to reaction. Reporter both pilots we spoke to were very concerned about the altitude of halladays plane before it crashed. They want many more details as do many others in this region. Police are looking for group of guys who robbed a doughnut shop in houston. One of the guys passed out doughnuts to customers during the robbery. Police say one man point add gun at a cashier and demanded money from the register while the second man jump the counter. Third man took customers phones. Delaware prosecutors are considering the Death Penalty against 16 inmates who killed a correctional officer in that february prison riot. Death penalty is currently illegal in delaware. Prosecutors wrote letter to the presiding judge ning him that if lawmakers vote to reinstate the Death Penalty they feel it would be appropriate to apply to one or more of the defendants. They write that it isnt an aggravating factor to kill a prison guard in the performance of his duties. Chief public defender Brendon Oneill called the idea a legally unfounded proposal.
