WASHINGTON The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has awarded a division of Oshkosh Corp. a 10-year, multibillion-dollar contract to produce a new generation of postal delivery vehicles.
Oshkosh, through its Oshkosh Defense unit, won out over five other companies vying for the
contract, which calls for the delivery of up to 165,000 vehicles over 10 years to replace the Postal Service s aging fleet of mail-delivery vehicles.
Under terms of the initial $482 million, Oshkosh Defense will finalize the production design of the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV), a right-hand-drive vehicle for mail and package delivery. The vehicles will be equipped with either fuel-efficient internal-combustion engines or battery-electric powertrains and can be retrofitted to keep pace with advances in electric vehicle technologies, the Postal Service said.

Twitter user Kristian Bob shared a photo of the truck edited to have eyes just like the vehicles in the Pixar movie
Cars and said: Giving the USPS truck even more Pixar vibes.

The USPS Is Getting New Funky Looking Trucks With a Boring Name
The United States Postal Service is getting a new truck that will be saddling up to your mail box in 2023. It s the NGDV, or Next Generation Delivery Vehicle which is being purpose built for the U.S. Postal Service.
I saw a picture of the new truck and thought cool, these are unique looking. To me it goes back to the 1970 s when the U.S.P.S delivered mail in jeeps. Jeeps weren t everywhere back then. And the U.S.P.S Jeeps with the sliding doors on the side, they were pretty unique looking too.

The United States Postal Service recently selected Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Defense to build the replacement for its aged LLV mail truck, and the Next Generation Delivery Vehicle was unveiled this week. Despite its mildly dopey look, the long-awaited NGDV is appropriately packed with creature comforts and essential technology. For the first time, mail carriers will get air conditioning, antilock brakes, and a backup camera on their vehicles.
Oshokosh’s new mail truck, available either with a combustion or an all-electric drivetrain, is a vast improvement upon the LLV. But as the consumer car market transitions to zero-emissions vehicles, how many EV units will USPS put into service?
