Pork imports from Russia soar ten-fold
Pork imports from Russia surged over 1,000% in the first quarter of this year, making Russia the biggest supplier of pork to Vietnam, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Data of the department showed that in the first three months of 2021, Vietnam imported 16,550 tons of pork worth US$44.85 million from Russia, soaring 1,116% in volume and 1,002% in value compared with the same period last year.
In total, the country imported 169,290 tons of meat of all kinds worth US$337.18 million in the first quarter, rising 0.5% in volume and 22.4% in value year-on-year.

One of the top proposals involves fines for circulating fake or inaccurate news in the market. There are currently regulations on forcing such fines on speculation activities in Article 196 of the 2015 Criminal Code, but a more detailed guideline must be mapped to help local authorities ensure better implementation, the ministries say.
Another solution is to limit speculation in the market. Proposals are to increase the transference taxation in the first 2-3 years after an asset was transferred. Also, additional taxation is suggested to impose on the second asset and more of every owner and land plot left unused over a certain period of time.

More women in informal sector in Q1: GSO
The third COVID-19 resurgence has weakened the labour market recovery momentum gained in the second half of 2020 and forced many labourers, particularly women, to shift to informal employment, according to the latest report by the General Statistics Office (GSO).
A survey by the GSO reveals that though there was a fall in employment in the first quarter of 2021, the number of working females rose against the same period last year.
The increase, however, was largely due to a higher number of women working in the informal sector, the GSO said, adding that the growth of females in informal sector was higher than that of males.
