Numbers fall slightly for COVID-19 spread in East Central Indiana
MUNCIE, Ind. The rate of COVID-19 spread in East Central Indiana has fallen slightly, though it s still too early to celebrate.
All but one of the counties in the area have fallen in their rankings, with only Grant County maintaining the highest rank by the state. The rest all saw falling statistics that are used to measure spread.
The Indiana State Department of Health releases a color-coded map on a weekly basis, placing counties in four categories for spread. The current data is based on numbers through Dec. 21.
Two statistics help determine the county ranking: cases per 100,000 residents and positivity rate based on testing results. To classify as red, counties must have above 200 cases per 100,000 residents and a positivity rate in testing of over 15%.
