Clark County healthcare workers and long-term care residents receive first doses of COVID-19 vaccine

(WTWO/WAWV) - As COVID-19 vaccinations continue across the country, residents and employees of a local senior living facility in Illinois received their first doses of the vaccine. The Clark County Health Department partnered with the Villas of Holly Brook in Marshall to ensure residents and staff were vaccinated. The vaccination took place at the Health Department on Wednesday in Martinsville as part of the government s pharmacy partnership for long-term care program. Illinois long-term care residents and employees will have access to the vaccine over the upcoming weeks. Care workers at Villas of Holly Brook say they are happy to have this extra layer of protection.

The first COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Athens on Friday and by Monday, health care workers were still administering the vaccines to employees in Athens two major hospitals. “We are starting our vaccines this afternoon. We are expecting the shipment to arrive any minute now,” St. Mary’s Hospital spokesman Mark Ralston said about noon Monday. “We are getting a limited supply, so initially, it will be those top-priority folks who are the front-line clinicians and see the largest number of COVID-19 patients.
