Federal employees who have been teleworking during the novel coronavirus pandemic are giving their new work arrangement rave reviews. In two recently released surveys many teleworkers said they were as if not more productive than they had been in the office, and reported greater engagement and job satisfaction.
The broader of these surveys the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey administered by the Office of Personnel Management in the fall of 2020 found that 59% of federal employees teleworked daily at the height of the pandemic, up from just 3% before. Those who used the work arrangement were more likely to be engaged with their jobs, OPM said. Employees who reported that they worked at least three days per week remotely ha

Morale and job satisfaction among federal employees increased last year despite nearly half reporting increased work demands amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new survey released Monday by the Office of Personnel Management.
Out of the nearly 625,000 federal workers who participated in the annual Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey between September and November, the report found overall job satisfaction at a score of 72 points, an increase from 69 in 2019.
Additionally, 84 percent of respondents said they believed their coworkers cooperated together “to get the job done,” up from 77 percent the year before.

The survey also recorded employee satisfaction with their specific organization at 66 points, compared to 61 in 2019.

While US federal government employees mostly remained resilient and engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic, there were “meaningful declines” in their assessment of service delivery, according to an annual staff survey.
“Despite the unprecedented workplace challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, federal workers adapted quickly to their new realities, continuing to work on behalf of the American people, taking on additional and sometimes new work to ensure critical services have been available to the public,” said Kathleen McGettigan, acting director of OPM.
