It’s a special day for four players from the U16 Thunder Bay Kings hockey team.
They’ve all been drafted to the Ontario Hockey League.
We start with a 16-year old goalie, Kolton Bourret.
He admits he was not expecting the call from the North Bay Battalion. “Every year it’s a big competition, there’s a lot of goalies, in Ontario. There’s hasn’t been a goalie drafted here in a long time. I think there’s around 20 to 30 goalies picked today, among 20 teams… especially this year not playing many games.”
The goalie believes he was picked because of his hard work, as well as his 6’3 frame… something his coaches and others who know him agree with.
The U18 Thunder Bay Kings continued to roll Wednesday night as they beat the U16 Kings 6-2.
Josh Lehto finished with a pair of goals for the U18’s, while Brodie McCleod had a pair of helpers.
Keenan Marks picked up the win between the pipes with 22 saves.
On the other side Brady Butvin and Kaden Goodwin had the goals for the U16 Kings, while Carter Anton picked up an assist and Kolton Bourret made 28 saves.
The SIJHL now hits pause until the province-wide shutdown is over.
