There were four legislative days scheduled last week but the weather forced cancellation of those days so they have been rescheduled for March. While the General Assembly and schools were canceled and many business were closed, the road crews were working day and night to clear our roads. I want to thank them and share my appreciation of law enforcement and emergency responders for braving the cold weather and icy conditions to protect and serve our community.
Since there wasnât any legislation to discuss for the week, I thought it would be a good time to discuss a few of my bills. In earlier updates I discussed House Bills 6 and 360. This week I will discuss the other bills that I have filed. House Bills 161, 216, and 242 were all filed in January while House Bills 471 and 472 were filed on February 10.

Hinnant becomes the first Red Hawk softball player to earn a weekly honor from the NJCAA.

A Kings Fork, Va. native, Hinnant has been dominant on the mound so far this season for CVCC, striking out 34 batters in 20 innings.
The right-hander recorded a one-hit, 12-strikeout performance in her first-ever start on Jan. 29 against Surry Community College, and she followed that up with a two-hit, 12-strikeout outing on Feb. 9 at Fayetteville Tech.
OREM Friday night was not the beginning of a rivalry.
But when Utah Valley took an 87-72 win over Western Athletic Conference newcomer Dixie State in the UCCU Center, it was the inaugural game of the Old Hammer series that celebrates two schools that spent 49 years as junior college rivals and have now made the jump to Division I.
So while the Old Hammer isn t particularly old and is, in fact, so new that the trophy is still being finished the rivalry series is anything but. The series goes back to junior college s Region 18, to the formation of the Scenic West Athletic Conference, and to two schools who battled for decades as two of the top two-year programs in the state of Utah.
