Denouncing the Kolar iPhone plant violence, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Friday said that such incidents should be avoided and they should not occur. He added that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his concern over the violence that broke out on December 12, 2020, at Wistron Infocomm factory in Karnataka.
Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said to a media outlet that they had taken action, foreign companies were important and these things should not have happened. He went on to say that the Prime Minister was also very much worried, they had instructed that such things would not be tolerated and let them continue production.
The company said that its damages could be in the range of Rs 26-52 crore
Bengaluru: Condemning the violence at an Apple factory in Kolar in Karnataka, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, on Friday said that such acts should not happen and added that even PM Narendra Modi is concerned about the incident We have taken action. Kolar (Karnataka) [India], December 17 (ANI): The KarnatakaPolice on Thursday detained Srikanth, taluk president of Students Federation of India (SFI), in connection with the violence that erupted at Wistron Private Limited, in Kolar.
On December 12, violence had erupted at Taiwanese manufacturer Wistron, which makes Apple iPhones in India. The incident occurred allegedly over the non-payment of salaries for several months.
Later, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against 7,000 unknown people including 5,000 contract workers in connection with violence and vandalism.
The company on Wednesday said that the damage in its factory unit in Kolar s Narasapura due to the violence on December 12 amounted to between Rs 26 crore to Rs 52 crore and not Rs 437 crore as estimated earlier.
