Uber Eats introduces contactless service amid COVID-19 rise

Taipei, May 15 (CNA) Food delivery service provider Uber Eats launched contactless service on Saturday, which requires users in Taipei and New Taipei to pay only through credit cards, after the two cities reported 164 new domestically transmitted cases earlier in the day.
Uber Eats said it will tell its drivers to leave the meals at their customers doors to reduce risk of having physical contact with them.
The new protocol will be introduced to other cities and counties as soon as possible, the company said, assuring its clients that its drivers will check their health conditions and sanitize their vehicles before making deliveries.
COVID-19 Level 3 Alert guidelines for Taipei, New Taipei cities

Taipei, May 15 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Saturday raised the COVID-19 alert for Taipei and New Taipei cities to Level 3 after reporting a record 180 new domestic infections.
The alert level will remain in place until May 28.
The CECC has issued the following guidelines regarding the restrictions and enforced closures that will be in effect during that time.
COVID-19 Level 3 Alert Guidelines
1. Wear a mask at all times outside of the home
2. Avoid unnecessary travel, activities and gatherings
3. Indoor gatherings of 5+ people and outdoor gatherings of 10+ people prohibited
COVID-19: Consumers’ Foundation against plan to skip phase 3 trials for local vaccines

The Consumers’ Foundation is opposing plans for locally developed vaccines to bypass phase 3 clinical trials.
However, it urged the government to find more sources from which to acquire vaccines and to increase monetary incentives for those willing to be vaccinated.
The government’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention policy, while having sustained the nation for the past year and four months is rapidly falling behind that of other nations in terms of vaccinations, the foundation told a news conference in Taipei on Friday.

Taipei, May 15 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has found the same type of coronavirus in patients in cluster infections in Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Yilan, a health official said Saturday.
As of that day, 17 COVID-19 patients in the Novotel/China Airlines cluster in Taoyuan have contracted the same variant of the coronavirus found in at least 10 patients in a cluster recently found in New Taipei, CECC official Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said during a press briefing, citing the latest genome sequencing results.
