Wisconsin Reps Split Vote on COVID-19 Relief Bill on Partisan Line
The COVID-19 stimulus package is more than 5,000 pages long. It contains stimulus checks up to $600 for many Americans, and assists small businesses and renters. It also contains provisions tangentially related to COVID-19, including things like funding two new Smithsonian museums and tax breaks for NASCAR racing.
Wisconsin’s congressional delegation was split neatly on partisan lines. All six Wisconsin Republicans voted against the bill, while all four Wisconsin Democrats voted for it.

Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson conceded today that, while very much alive in spirit, Santa Claus âmay not exist totallyâ as a real flesh and blood being. Surveys show that by the age of 10, approximately 99 percent of children worldwide have accepted this view. Johnson is 65.Â
Johnsonâs announcement did not stop him from convening a hearing of his Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs to advance conspiracy theories intended to muddle the issue.Â
At the hearing, Fox News personality Sean Hannity charged that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had personally âtaken outâ Santa in a Navy SEAL style midnight raid on the North Pole earlier this year. âYeah, he doesnât exist!â shouted Hannity. âNot anymore. The socialists killed him!â
Congress approves 5-year extension of Great Lakes cleanup program

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - A program that has pumped $2.7 billion into healing long-term injuries to the Great Lakes environment has received authorization from Congress to continue another five years.
The U.S. Senate voted unanimously Sunday to extend the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, as the House did earlier this year. The bill, which requires President Donald Trump s signature to take effect, calls for gradually boosting the program s annual funding from $300 million to $475 million by 2026.
The measure doesn t guarantee the money, which lawmakers will need to provide in annual spending bills. But authorizing the program for multiple years is an important step.

Wisconsin Republicans have been having a conniption fit over the Holiday Tree for over a decade. Before Scott Walker was elected, it was inclusively called a Holiday Tree. When Walker was elected, he made a big deal of making sure people knew that he was changing the name to Christmas Tree. When the current governor, Tony Evers, was elected, it went back to Holiday Tree. This, of course, sent Republicans into a frenzy.
This year, their faux outrage hit new levels when Evers announced that since the Capitol Building was closed to the public due to the COVID 19 pandemic, there would be no tree by any name this year. The move makes sense. Why go through the hassle and expense of finding the best tree, chopping it down, moving it to the Capitol Building, getting it inside and erected and decorated if no one was going to be able to see it?
