NetNewsLedger - Ontario Assessing COVID-19 Trends to Decide Control Levels

Ontario Assessing COVID-19 Trends to Decide Control Levels 331 Thunder Bay Unless there is a serious change, it is likely that Thunder Bay will remain in the Orange Protect category for COVID-19. On Friday, the Ontario government announced that the Peel Region and Toronto will remain in the Grey-Lockdown level and a re-assessment will happen for those regions on January 4, 2020. Premier Doug Ford will be holding an emergency meeting with health officials. Thunder Bay has seen the overall numbers of active cases drop. What is likely keeping the District out of being placed in the Red-Control Zone is that the rates of positive tests over the past two weeks has been below the guideline of 2.5 per cent. The number of cases reported at 40 per 100,000 of population is one of the criteria. The Thunder Bay District has met that criteria over the past two weeks.

With the winter break approaching, there is concern families won t abide by public health recommendations and will gather during the holidays. People do gather around that Christmas holiday . We would have people potentially coming back to school who may have engaged in a gathering larger than you re supposed to, increasing the risk [to others] and they would be asymptomatic, so it wouldn t necessarily be caught by screening, Danko said. Education Minister Stephen Lecce said in a statement on Friday afternoon that as we continue to see increased rates of community transmission, our schools remain safe. To put this into perspective eight out of ten schools in this province have no active COVID-19 cases at all and 99.66 per cent of students have never reported a case of COVID-19, he said.
