The 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) officially opened in Hanoi this morning (January 26), with the participation of 1,587 delegates representing more than 5.1 million Party members nationwide.

The 13th National Party Congress has the theme “Strengthening the building and rectification of the Party and the political system into purity and strength; rousing the will and determination for national development and promoting the strength of the great national unity bloc in combination with the power of the era; continuing to comprehensively and synchronously accelerate the cause of reform; constructing and firmly safeguarding the Fatherland and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; and striving to turn Vietnam into a developed, socialist-oriented nation by the middle of the 21st century.”
Among the
delegates, 13.99 percent are women, and 11.03 percent are ethnic
minorities.
Guests at the congress include former Party and State
leaders, ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps of foreign
countries and chief representatives of international organisations in Hanoi,
Heroic Mothers, and outstanding youths and intellectuals and representatives
from religious organisations.
The Politburo decided to establish 67 delegations,
and assign their heads.
The 13th Congress is an important political event for the
entire Party, army and people and a milestone in the development of the Party
and the country as a whole. It bears future orientation significance, thus
helping boost the country’s renewal, integration and development cause

Delegates to the 13th National Party Congress attended a preparatory session in the morning of January 25, during which they are scheduled to adopt working regulations of the congress.

promised to closely coordinate with and contribute to the building and implementation
of socio-economic development strategies and plans of Vietnam in a recent
interview with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
During the interview, Wiesen said Vietnam was
commended for the significant preparations of all the background documents for
the 13th National Party Congress, particularly socio-economic
development strategy and the socio-economic development plan.
The official noted these critical documents
will determine Vietnam’s cause of development for the next five- and ten-year
periods.
