Two Palestinian brothers, 57-year-old Abdul Jawad and 51-year-old Mohammed Shamasneh, have entered their 29th consecutive year in Israeli detention facilities, the Palestinian Prisoners Club reported yesterday.
In an official statement, the organisation explained the prisoners were from the East Jerusalem town of Qatana, adding that they were arrested before the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1993. They were repeatedly sentenced to life imprisonment.
Cairo: Egypt has recovered about 5,000 artifacts, which were earlier smuggled from the country. The pieces, which were in the possession of the Holy Bible Museum in the US, were handed over to Egypt after efforts from the ministries of tourism and antiquities as well as foreign affairs in conjunction with US authorities, according to Egyptian officials.
The collection includes manuscripts and pieces of papyrus with texts written in the Coptic language, hieratic and demotic script, and the Greek language.
They also include manuscripts of Christian religious prayers written in Arabic and Coptic together or Arabic only, the Egyptian officials added.

TRIPOLI – Anger has been boiling in the Libyan south-eastern region that includes the cities of Sirte, Ajdabiya up to Kufra, an area that was called Cyrenaica Elbeida (White Cyrenaica) during the reign of the late King Idris al-Senussi.
Prominent figures from the region have issued two statements in less than a month calling for the need for their region to be represented in Libya’s political negotiations.

As political dialogue stumbles in Libya, Turkey and Italy are trying to exploit the North African country’s misfortunes to have a new executive authority appointed under its ally, the current President Fayez al-Sarraj.
This brings back to the surface talk of a scenario that had been previously floated whereby Sarraj would remain head of the presidency council, while the army, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, would appoint a prime minister of its choice.
Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported that Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio had transferred a proposal from Sarraj to Haftar stipulating that Sarraj would remain head of the presidency council in exchange for appointing a prime minister from the eastern region.
