Apr 1, 2021 The chairman of Chautauqua County’s Democratic Party is firing back against criticism leveled by the Chautauqua County Legislature’s five Democrat members. Chuck Nazzaro, D-Jamestown and legislature Democratic minority leader, said in a letter sent to The Post-Journal and other media outlets late Tuesday night that the Democratic Legislative Caucus had planned to stay silent on the issue of Green’s successor until after a decision had been made in a lawsuit filed by Green and Luz Torres, Green’s choice to be the next Democratic election commissioner, against the legislature last week. The lawsuit filed by Green and Torres claims the legislature and Democratic Caucus respondents appear about to proceed without and in excess of their authority under the Election Law and New York state Constitution by appointing … Kent instead of one of the recommended/certified names.” Named in the lawsuit are the county, the County Legislature, Kent, Katherine Tampio, Legislature clerk; and Democratic legislators Charles Nazzaro, Robert Whitney, Paul Whitford, all of Jamestown; Robert Bankoski of Dunkirk and Christine Starks of Fredonia.

County hopes to hold tax auction in August | News, Sports, Jobs

Chautauqua County is moving ahead with plans to hold a tax auction this summer. Last year due to COVID-19, the county extended the tax foreclosure redemption date from April 15, 2020, to April 15, 2021, in order to afford additional time for property owners affected by the pandemic to redeem their foreclosed property. The April 15 date was later extended to May 1 and now is proposed to be extended to June 18. “The state Legislature and the governor had signed legislation in December that put further limitations on foreclosure actions through May 1, 2021,” explained Stephen Abdella, county attorney, during the legislature’s Administrative Services Committee meeting this week.

The Roberts Road Freezer project may be expanding. During the Chautauqua County Legislature’s Public Facilities Committee meeting this week, members agreed to modify a resolution that would allow the company to purchase another 7.5 acres of land. In 2018, Roberts Road Freezer, LLC purchased about 10 acres of land from the county to build a 100,000 foot freezer. The company, which was at time was doing business with Fieldbrook Foods, left an option open for them to purchase another three parcels of land for $1 in the next six years. After six years, the county would be free to market that property, however Roberts Road Freezer could match if it so chose.
