Working together, collecting data, and setting measurable goals were common themes in testimony given by the Ohio Agriculture Conservation Initiative (OACI) before the Ohio House Agriculture and Conservation Committee on Tuesday. Several representatives from the various organizations that make up OACI shared details of the individual aspects of the OACI and explained specific research being conducted and on-farm examples.
Scott Higgins, CEO of the Ohio Dairy Producers Association, and Heather Taylor-Miesle, Executive Director of the Ohio Environmental Council jointly testified to explain the cooperation between the agriculture and environmental communities to come together and form the OACI. “On behalf of the agriculture, conservation and environmental community, we stand before you demonstrating unity in a proactive and collaborative approach to improving Ohio’s waterways and lakes,” said Higgins.
Texas Tech taps Michigan State dean as new provost

Ronald L. Hendrick, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University, has been appointed Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Texas Tech, effective July 1.
He replaces Michael Galyean, who recently announced his retirement after serving in the role the last five years.
In addition to his role as dean, Hendrick is a professor in the Department of Forestry and was appointed to both positions in 2016. He oversees all academic, research and outreach efforts of CANR, which includes 12 academic departments and schools, the Institute of Agricultural Technology, MSU AgBioResearch and MSU Extension (MSU Extension).

Darke County Chamber to host agri-business event

DARKE COUNTY — The Darke County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Agri-Business Event on March 19, 2021, at noon. The speaker will be Dr. Cathann A. Kress of The Ohio State University.
Dr. Kress serves as Vice President for Agricultural Administration and Dean, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) at The Ohio State University since May 2017. Dean Kress has responsibility for leadership of the college which also comprises OSU Extension, research centers including the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, and the Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster. She is also a full professor within the department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership.
