Jefferson County health officials say people spread COVID-19 mistaking it for allergies

Apr 28, 2021 — Jefferson County health officials are worried about the spread of new cases of COVID-19. Officials are warning people to get tested and self-quarantine if they have any of symptoms associated with the virus. Symptoms of COVID-19 are cough, headache, sore throat, and congestion and may include fever, cough, chills, body aches, and loss of taste or smell. Faith Lustik is a planner with the Jefferson County Department of Public Health. She says community spread has gotten worse this month because people have ignored the symptoms of COVID-19. "People are telling us that they just thought they had allergies," Lustik said. "They were still going out they were still going to work, so there’s a great deal of people who are quarantined because they’ve exposed so many people."
