Years ago, when Jennifer Garner started giving her kids a Yes Day, she had no idea it would lead to a family film on Netflix.
The annual tradition, which became cherished by her kids Violet, 15, Seraphina, 12, and son Sam, 8, with ex-husband Ben Affleck was initially inspired by the children s book
Yes Day! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. I read it to my little daughter when she was 3, Garner, 48, tells PEOPLE. And her big wish all the time was, I just want a yes day. I just want a yes day. Get push notifications with news, features and more.

Ask any parent who they’d most like to bludgeon to death with a Hatchimal and odds are good that Tom Lichtenheld and Amy Krouse will come up as viable targets. The pair’s 2009 children’s book,
Yes Day!, first introduced kids (and despairing caregivers) to the concept of this time-limited parental amnesty, during which the answer to any request (Can we have Wagon Wheels for breakfast? Are we allowed to drink maple syrup? Can we dye the cat orange?) must be met with a sobbed affirmative.
While the picture-led book is largely plotless, the film, directed by
Cedar Rapids’ Miguel Arteta, attempts to expand its chaotic premise. We are introduced to Allison (Jennifer Garner) and Carlos Torres (Edgar Ramirez): once a pair of fun-loving twentysomethings, now frazzled parents to three demanding kids. After middle child Nando (Julian Lerner) turns in a school project comparing his buzzkill mother to Mussolini (surely deserving of at least a week on the naughty step), sh

Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez just can’t say no to Jennifer Garner so he’s ventured into his first-ever comedy role in Yes Day, which premieres on Netflix this March 12.
The 43-year-old actor has only done serious roles before. He’s best-known for playing controversial, tragic, larger-than-life characters from the late designer Gianni Versace in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, terrorist Carlos the Jackal in Oliver Assayas’ Carlos, to legendary boxer Roberto Duran in Hands of Stone. Movie fans have seen him as a CIA operative (Zero Dark Thirty), CIA assassin (The Bourne Ultimatum) and most recently, a relentless detective in the Nicole Kidman whodunit series The Undoing.
