Penn State women’s basketball (3-3, 0-2 Big Ten) fell to No. 14 Maryland (6-1, 2-0 Big Ten) 96-82 at home on New Year’s Eve Thursday afternoon.
Maddie Burke led the scoring category for the Lady Lions off the bench with a career-high 24 points on 8-for-16 shooting. The freshman scored 21 of her points from behind the arc, nailing a career-high seven three-pointers in the contest.
Senior Kelly Jekot added another double-double to her season total with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Despite an array of impressive individual efforts, the potent Maryland offensive attack was too strong for Carolyn Kieger’s young squad.
Penn State women’s basketball (3-2, 0-1) lost a close battle to Purdue (4-2, 1-1) 91-87 Sunday afternoon. Makenna Marisa had a career game and led the team with 26 points.
Kelly Jekot added 14 points, while Johnasia Cash and Anna Camden added 11 points each. However, the Boilermakers’ three-point success became the difference in the game.
How It Happened
The Lady Lions won the opening tip, but they were unable to score on their first offensive possession. After Purdue scored on a long jumper, Johnasia Cash got the scoring started with a layup.
The Boilermakers had a great start to the game, knocking down a three and a midrange shot. Kelly Jekot responded with a layup and a foul, making the free throw and cutting into the deficit.
