MEXICO CITY, April 22 (Reuters) - Mexico’s antitrust authority on Thursday said it had filed a dispute in the Supreme Court against the government’s electricity reforms.
The Federal Economic Competition Commission (COFECE) said some of the changes proposed by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s government prevent competition in the sector.
“It breaks the rule of open and non-discriminatory access to distribution and transmission networks, which reduces the ability to compete for certain generators and traders,” Cofece said in a statement. (Reporting by Adriana Barera; Writing by Drazen Jorgic; Editing by Frank Jack Daniel)

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - EU antitrust regulators will examine Illumina Inc’s proposed $7.1 billion acquisition of cancer test maker Grail Inc, the European Commission said on Tuesday, following a request from six countries on competition concerns.
U.S. life sciences company Illumina announced last September that it would acquire Grail - which it previously owned before spinning it off as a separate business four years ago - by buying out investors including Amazon.com Inc founder Jeff Bezos. Illumina had remained the company’s largest shareholder.

LONDON, April 20 (Reuters) - Britain’s competition regulator said on Tuesday it was concerned the Issa brothers and private equity group TDR Capital’s 6.8 billion pound ($9.5 billion) takeover of the Asda supermarket chain could lead to higher fuel prices for UK motorists.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it has given the buyers five working days to offer legally binding proposals to address the competition concerns identified to avoid an in-depth phase 2 investigation. ($1 = 0.7153 pounds) (Reporting by James Davey; editing by Michael Holden)

Should the court follow the non-binding opinion in the coming months, it could pave the way for companies to sue subsidiaries of other cartel members and other illegal price-fixing groups.
The European Commission in 2016 handed out a then record 2.9 billion euro fine to the cartel which included Daimler, Swedish company Volvo, Iveco, which is part of Italian truck and tractor maker CNH Industrial, and DAF Trucks, owned by U.S. company Paccar.

April 15 (Reuters) - UK’s competition watchdog has provisionally found that the 2019 acquisition of investment technology firm GBST Holdings by rival FNZ raises competition concerns and has asked it to sell the business with an option to buy back certain capital markets assets.
“The reduction of competition in the market could lead to higher prices or poorer service for retail platforms to the ultimate detriment of UK consumers who hold pensions or other investments that are managed by these platforms,” said Martin Coleman, Chair of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) inquiry group.
