No. 11 Syracuse (5-4, 1-3 Atlantic Coast) will visit No. 5 Virginia (10-3, 2-3) on Saturday, facing the only ACC program it has defeated this year. The Orange’s 20-10 victory against the Cavaliers in late February was the largest margin of victory between the two squads.
Syracuse has lost three of its last four games, and its struggles in ACC play were highlighted in a 21-9 thrashing at the hands of North Carolina this weekend. To compound problems, the Orange suspended No. 22 Chase Scanlan this week and will likely miss starting defender Nick DiPietro and short-stick defensive midfielder Brandon Aviles.

The Tar Heels come to the Carrier Dome with the top scoring offense in the nation. SU’s defense, though up-and-down through its first seven games, looked strong against unranked Albany on Thursday.

Back-to-back losses to Duke and Notre Dame in conference play have shunted the Orange to the bottom of the ACC along with Virginia. Four scheduled games remain for SU, starting with a matchup against in-state rival Albany (5-2, 3-2 America East) on Thursday night at 5 p.m. The Great Danes have historically struggled against the Orange, losing six of their last seven meetings and 16 of their total 18 encounters.

No. 4 Syracuse returns to the Carrier Dome this week to host No. 9 Notre Dame (4-1, 0-1) on Saturday. The matchup marks the second consecutive week and third time this season that the Orange are facing a conference opponent.
Last week’s Atlantic Coast Conference matchup against then-No. 2 Duke in Durham, North Carolina ended in a one-goal loss for the Orange after they missed two last-second shots. Syracuse hasn’t lost two regular season games back-to-back since 2018 and hasn’t lost two conference games in a row since losing to Duke and Notre Dame in consecutive weeks in 2016.
