A single-judge bench of Justice Nani Tagia of the Gauhati High Court directed the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) not to proceed with the election of its executive committee till July 17, 2023
The Court was hearing a plea alleging the failure to affiliate the Assam Wrestling Association with the WFI, which meant that the former could not participate in the elections.

Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia had been the faces of a 38-day protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar against the WFI chief and BJP bigwig Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. On June 15, Delhi Police submitted a charge sheet in this regard.

The Assam Wrestling Association, in its petition filed against the WFI, IOA ad-hoc panel and the Sports Ministry, said that though it was entitled to be an affiliated member of the WFI, it was not granted one.
The ad-hoc panel has fixed June 25 as the last date for receiving names for the electoral college while elections for new governing body would be held July 11. | Latest News India
