A long-time cannabis advocate and lawmaker is determined to carefully assess a medical marijuana bill that Wisconsin's Republican legislators introduced on Monday. "I am thoroughly reviewing every provision of this bill because the devil truly is in the details," State Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) said in a statement. "This is a serious matter the legislature will be taking up in the coming weeks." Agard, who has been tireless in her efforts to enact cannabis policy reform said the GOP-backed legislation is "overly restrictive" and that it "does not move our state in the right direction." However, Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos seems to be of the opposite opinion. He said the bill represents the maximum extent that Republicans are willing to go.
Canadian cannabis company Canopy Growth seeks to raise $30m in a private placement offering. The company said the move would improve its financial standing and enable it to pay down debts. Canopy Growth said in November it has reduced overall debts by C$364m to C$681m since the start of the current fiscal year. The increase in capital will provide working capital, as well as supporting other general corporate needs. The closing of the private placement under the subscription agreements is expected to occur on or about Jan. 10, 2024, subject to customary closing conditions.
Cannabis industry jobs platform Vangst announced on Tuesday a government contract with the Cannabis Business Office (CBO) – a part of the Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) - to create CannaBusiness Growth. The new educational program seeks to support social equity licensed cannabis entrepreneurs, by creating economic opportunities, local job creation, and community growth in Colorado. It's a result of Senate Bill 21-111 from a group of Colorado lawmakers that got enacted into law in 2021. The program, which includes more than 50 modules covering a range of general cannabis subjects to specific guidance relevant to industry verticals, is funded by the Marijuana Tax Cash Fund.
Group announced on Tuesday that it is expanding distribution into the Australian market with its first shipment of cannabis flower to Vitura Health Limited. The Toronto-based company owns roughly 10% of Vitura's common shares, formerly known as Cronos Australia, and will supply cannabis for Vitura.
