Biden Completing Opening Moves in Climate Strategy

(Image credit – Adam Schultz / The White House) Four months into his administration, President Biden’s approach to climate change is beginning to cohere around two executive orders he issued his first week in office.  Signed on Inauguration Day, the first order set an urgent tone through high-priority moves, such as rejoining the Paris climate agreement, initiating an update of government benchmarks for the social cost of greenhouse gases, and reversing a number of Trump administration actions on environmental policy. The second order, issued Jan. 27, established an array of policymaking mechanisms and outlined an agenda on matters such as climate resilience, environmental justice, and climate-related economic opportunities, with many action items due within 60, 90, and 120 days.

Did Biden Purge a Trump-appointed Scientist From Her Post? Republicans Are Demanding Answers.

Share Source: AP Photo/Evan Vucci A Trump-appointed scientist who was tasked with leading the National Climate Assessment was reassigned to the U.S. Geological Survey last month, raising questions about why she was removed from her post. Now, two House Republicans are demanding answers from the White House about the scientist, Betsy Weatherhead, being pulled from overseeing the government’s report on climate change. But the White House will not say. The White House declined to say why Weatherhead, a longtime University of Colorado climate scientist who also has worked in the private sector, was removed from her post.

New White House task force to look at politicization of science within government

New White House task force to look at politicization of science within government By Seth Borenstein Biden, Harris speak at climate summit on Earth Day President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris opened Earth Day s climate summit, with an ambitious pledge to cut by at least one-half the climate-wrecking coal and petroleum fumes that America is pumping out. WASHINGTON - Eager to the turn the page on the Trump years, the Biden White House is launching an effort to unearth past problems with the politicization of science within government and to tighten scientific integrity rules for the future. A new 46-person federal scientific integrity task force with members from more than two dozen government agencies will meet for the first time on Friday. Its mission is to look back through 2009 for areas where partisanship interfered with what were supposed to be decisions based on evidence and research and to come up with ways to keep politics out of government science in the fut
