Eskom recently announced that they will be starting a National roll-out to update the 6.6 million prepaid electricity meters under their control before the meters become non-operational on 24 November 2024. This is 10 years after the utility knew the project was required.
A handful of municipalities have completed an update required to prevent all their prepaid electricity meters from becoming non-functional next year. Most authorities though, including Eskom, haven’t or have hardly started the process.
