Heavy rains lash Uttarakhand, Char Dham Yatra halted till further notice - Uttarakhand is currently witnessing heavy rains, due to which the Char Dham Yatra has been halted till the weather conditions improve.
Three labourers from Nepal died as incessant rainfall lashed Uttarakhand and Chardham pilgrims who arrived in Haridwar and Rishikesh by Sunday have been asked not to proceed further till the weather improves.
Kedarnath and Badrinath-bound pilgrims have also been requested not to proceed on their journey till the weather clears. Most of the pilgrims on way to Badrinath are staying in Joshimath and Chamoli, Chamoli district disaster management officer N K Joshi said.

DEHRADUN/NAINITAL: The number of Covid-19 cases in the nine hill districts of Uttarakhand has spiralled, almost doubling in the past 40 days. Equally worrying is that deaths have also shot up -- it is three times the figure compared to last year.
Pauri, the worst-affected hill district, recorded 5,215 cases between March 2020 and March 2021. In the period between April 1 and May 13, though, the district’s tally shot up to 12,970. Till March 31 this year, Pauri had 60 Covid-19 deaths. The number went up to 200 in the period between April 1 and May 13. Another significant spike has been in Almora where cases went up from 56 between March 2020 and March 2021. It was 1,318 between April 1 and May 13 this year. The number of deaths went up from 26 to 89 in the corresponding period.

U'kand aims to produce 500 metric tonnes wool by 2023-2024 under Structured Breeding Programme for sheep ANI | Updated: Jan 30, 2021 15:03 IST
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], January 30 (ANI): In accordance with a call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double the farmers' income, the Uttarakhand government had launched the Structured Breeding Programme through Merino sheep imported from Australia in the state.
For this initiative, 10 aggregation camps are being proposed at Joshimath, Chamoli, Bhatwari, Purola, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Pithoragarh and Bageshwar. The idea is to produce 500 metric tonnes of wool by 2023-2024, the government officials said.
