Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took oath as Assam chief minister on May 10, had told his wife 30 years ago that he will hold the CM s office one day.

Almost 30 years ago, when he was 22-year-old, Himanta Biswa Sarma had told a young Riniki Bhuyan, who later became his wife, that he would become the chief minister of Assam one day.
GUWAHATI: Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, said it would take some time for her to come to terms that her husband, who had predicted three decades back that one day he would one day become the CM, has finally become one.
Speaking to the media after Sarma’s swearing-in as the state’s 15th CM here on Monday, she said, “When I was about 17 years old and he about 22 years studying in Cotton College, I had asked him what he wants to do in his life. He told me ‘tell your mother that I will be the chief minister of Assam.’ I was stunned and thought he did not know what he was saying then.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam along with 13 members of his cabinet on Monday after he was elected unanimously by the BJP Legislature Party, which met in Guwahati on Sunday.
