Firework shortage is making it harder for people to host their own celebrations

Firework shortage is making it harder for people to host their own celebrations July 1, 2021 6:48 PM Grace Houdek Updated: Last year, COVID slowed down firework production and shipment into the United States from China. Firework shop owner Andrew Obricht says China has had to produce more fireworks than ever before. “This year there’s a substantial fireworks crisis or shortage of fireworks. The reason for that is last year we had a really good year in the firework business and the pressure was on China to make more fireworks than they’ve ever had to produce in the history of China,” said Obricht.

Madison, January 20, 1961 - JFK and Madison

Madison in the Sixties – January 20, 1961 In 1960, Sen. John F. Kennedy didn’t carry Madison in the Democratic presidential primary or Wisconsin in the general election. But his candidacy still had a profound local impact. His primary campaign against Sen. Hubert Humphrey created enough Badgerland bitterness to last for years, even damaging the federal judiciary. And his election utterly transformed local politics, and ended the effort to build Frank Lloyd Wright’s Monona Terrace auditorium and convention center. Kennedy’s advisors didn’t want him entering the primary against the friendly liberal from neighboring Minnesota, who had two extra sectors of support. Some feared the Pope would unduly influence the Catholic Kennedy, while others who actually supported two-time nominee Adlai Stevenson were trying to block Kennedy from a first-ballot nomination at the national convention, hoping delegates would then draft the former Illinois Governor.

ABC7 Blood Drive: ABC7, Red Cross partner to help bring awareness for need of blood donations

Appointments are also available throughout the year at multiple locations around the Bay Area for your convenience. Check the schedule here to find a date and time that works better for you. Streamline your donation experience and save up to 15 minutes by visiting RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass to complete your pre-donation reading and health history questions on the day of your appointment. ABC7 and the American Red Cross are partnering to urge Bay Area residents about the critical need for blood donations in January for National Blood Donor Month. Blood donors can help those disproportionately affected by COVID-19 including sickle cell patients. Amid this coronavirus pandemic, the Red Cross has seen a significant decrease in African American and Latinx blood donors. Blood transfused to patients with rare blood types, like those with sickle cell disease, must be matched very closely to reduce the risk of complications, and these patients are more likely to find a compatible blood match from a blood donor of the same race or similar ethnicity.
